  1. Such a sad state of affairs that strikeouts are considered acceptable. Yes, I suppose the guy could hit into a double play or hit a weak grounder as you say. But come on 16;strike outs in one game? That's 16 at bats that produced absolutely nothing. The lead the league in strikeouts. They also do a very poor job of advancing runners. Coincidence? Hardly. Steals and steal atte.pts are way up in baseball but the Twins fall way below everyone in last. Putting a ball in play at least makes the defense field the ball. Gallo will continue to be what he is:. A .199 career hitter that strikes out a lot and once in a while hits homers. Correa, Buxton, and Gallo are making roughly 58 million this year between the three of them. It's time for them to start showing they are worth it.
  2. In three years Kirilloff hasn't shown that he is a competent major league hitter. Nhe should not be considered an automatic spot on the team. There's lots of hitting issues on this team. What about our two highly paid studs? What a waste of money they have been so far.
  3. Yes. Excellent signing. Hopefully he stays healthy and productive
  4. Nice week for Twins except for the offense. The Twins lead the league in striking out at over 10 times per game. After that great 9 run first inning against the Yankees on Friday the offense only scored 7 runs over the last 35 innings. They are still in hiding. The great Byron Buxton has struck out the last 9 or 10 times straight. Yet he apparently is off limits when it comes time to criticism. Now the collision he had at second base is being used as an excuse for his poor performance. Gallo? Pretty much what expected. Hits a couple of homers then strikes out and has poor contact most of the time. It was rather convenient that he was unable to play in New York. Those fans would have chewed him up. So you pay a guy $11 million for one year to perhaps relegate him to a platoon situation? Seems like a very poor use of salary. But if course paying a career .199 hitter that much seems wasteful. Thank goodness our pitching has been outstanding. Starters have been awesome and the bullpen is decent. Even my favorite whipping boy Pagan is pitching well. Considering all the injuries and the very anemic offense, 10-6 and currently in first place is pretty amazing! Go Twins!
  5. To me the baseball umpires are, and always have been the most arrogant of all the pro sports. They love to put on a show for the fans and tv. It was a bad look for MLB as normal. And as normal MLB will fully back the umps. Too bad they had to have a meeting with those Yankee players and coaches and then allow him to stay in the game. It lent to a whole look of favoritism, although it probably wasn't. Aaron Boone continually gets favorable treatment from umpires. It's unfortunate that incident took so much away from the game. Let's go Twins. Win Sunday.
  6. Article was good. But lay off criticizing fans who booed him at home. That is their right as Twins fans. I think Correa will be fine but I also think that he has not shown much for an otherwise historically frugal baseball organization to invest $200 million in. We should expect and demand more from him as the season progresses.
  7. Way to go Twins!! Great win. Way to go Julien and Ryan. Let's keep it rolling.
  8. Great article, well written. The final game of the Astros series, Easter Sunday drew only 14,000 fans. Yes it was Easter Sunday, but many teams drew over 25,000. Anyway great article. I agree with all your comments. The ads get very annoying on the scoreboard ribbons, but I understand their purpose. Keep up the good work!
  9. Who isn't sick of the whole Buxton situation?! It's been going on for 8 years. Extrapolating 61 games into 162 and saying he would be so great is ludicrous. One item that I get upset about is this FO isn't transparent with fans at all. Especially as it relates to player injuries. People saying Buxton would make 3 times his salary at other places if he were able to play a full season are making too many assumptions about his production. It works both ways. His career stats are what they are and it doesn't make him a superstar. His stats for 8 years are actually below average. Let's not build him up to what we may think he is. Anyone can take a good month of baseball production and extrapolate it through a whole season. That doesn't mean he will be Aaron Judge like. And I agree with some of the people that wonder why the Twins treat games in April as meaningless. That's for losing teams. The fact is the lineups produced the past two games would be tough to be competitive with the Saints. Buxton not dhing Monday while Correa was hurt was inexcusable. No we don't know if we would have won't or not with Buck in the lineup but please make an attempt to make it at least look like you are trying to win. Sunday the twins drew only 14,000 fans against the World champion Astros. Yes it was Easter but it was all around the league and most teams drew over 25,000. Yes a couple drew poorly but they are the usual suspects that don't draw fans. Monday the Twins drew 12,000. Both days was beautiful weather. IMO the team plays very poor and boring baseball led by a very boring and non aggressive manager.
  10. The analytics IS ruining the game. What good is it to have great barrel rates, good spin rate, etc if you don't get results? This crap about the process being more important than the results is just that: a bunch of crap. Thank God that this wasn't around when real starting pitchers not only faced batters a third time but a fourth time as well. It seems that many of the new stats are there to only put a positive spin on an average to poor player and team to make them appear better than they are. Good players and good managers make good teams. Just as bad players and bad managers make for bad teams. Doesn't anyone care about win ing anymore? Why has the goal changed from winning to just making sure " the plan " is followed at any cost?
  11. Very nice game. I was going to go Sunday but seeing the predictably b lineup playing today I'm staying home. I hope they win though. Shortly after the win yesterday we all knew that Baldelli would put in his b lineup for another throwaway game. He's done that a lot. He already won the series so sunday's game doesn't matter to him. Btw where is the great 33 million dollar man Correa? So far he's been awful and hasn't contributed much of anything to the Twins record of 6-2.
  12. I am so sick of the refrain " it's a marathon not a sprint" mantra I could scream. I think the games still count in the standings in April and May. That phrase is for loser teams which the Twins usually are. As of today they are 6-2 and playing well but surely not perfect. But that should be your goal to win as many games as possible even if it is April or May. If it is not then we need knew managers.
  13. Me, like thousands of other Twins fans have been unable to watch the Twins on home TV. Ever since we dropped cable we switched to three streaming services and of course they all dropped it. We haven't been able to watch the Twins for a couple of years unless we go to a bar or restaurant or in person for at least the past two years. So not much has changed for me. I follow the Twins on radio. But I sure miss not being able to watch them.
  14. You must be working for the Twins PR department. Do you get a cut in season ticket sales by over pro.oting them lol? Anyway it is too early but like everyone else I can speculate too. Let's just wait and see 4-2 against two of the poorest teams in baseball does not make them world series champs. Of those 6 games we scored 2 runs in three of those. We will be getting a heavier dose of good competition in the coming weeks. Still not sure where the offense will come from. Polanco is a proven major league player who should be able to help the club if and when he comes back. Kirilloff is hard to tell as the past couple of years we hardly ever see him play. You hardly ever hear them talk about their progress and when they may return. They are 0 for 7 with the bases loaded. Starting pitching looks good so far while the bullpen is still iffy. I think we should know more of what we really are in about 2-3 weeks. If Rocco doesn't lose us too many games with his managing " skills" we just may make it. Will he give Buxton and Correa off on the home opener because it's their scheduled days off? He's done that at home before.
  15. It's kind of amazing how many people sung the praises of Steer and Strand while they were in our system. Now that they are gone they all of a sudden weren't that good and not likely to make the Twins. I liked the trad then and so far like it now. Just like the Twins season as a whole there is a few ifs in it. IF Mahle performs well and IF the Twins resign him. I think both will happen. If it doesn't then it looks pretty bad. Remember three of our starters are playing on the last year of their contract. Gray, Maeda, and Mahle could all be gone before next year. Let's hope for the best. Go Twins.
  16. Great way to beat up on the poorest teams. That's what good teams do. But I have to agree it doesn't really show if you are a good team or not...we will see as the schedule gets significantly tougher after the Marlins. But 4-0 is awesome. Yes Pagan and Sands really don't belong on this team. They have better options. It will be interesting to see how they do once they see some real major league pitching. Go Twins!!
  17. Excellent comments by all. The Twins did just what they had to. That is sweep the Royals. They are an awful team. Rocco and Pagan will probably cost the team a lot of games. I hope they don't hang on to him too long if he struggles. I give Rocco credit for having the bullpen warming up after Pagan gave up two solid hits and a run to the first two batters he faced. Last year too many times he let Pagan stay in way too long.
  18. Sad to see so many people dissing on Luis Arraez. He was the AL batting champion last year!! I am glad we got Lopez, so the trade was ok with me, although it is hard to trade a hitter of Arraez caliber that plays every day for a pitcher only playing once a week. Ok MAYBE twice per week. As for leadoff spot I would use Buxton or Polanco. Have a great day everyone. Go Twins!
  19. One thing I never understood about pitch framing is why the umpires fall for it. I thought they were better than that. Wouldn't it be more understandable if an umpire called those pitches where the catcher .oves glove into the strike zone while receiving it or shortly thereafter, the ump calling it a ball instead. Human nature would say that the pitch was a ball and the catcher is stealing a strike from a ball. Doesn't it tell a reasonable person that the catcher also must know it's a ball and pulls it in the zone? Why do t the umps see that? Are they that bad? That is something little leaguers do. I think it's sophomoric but it works I guess but I don't understand why it should. MLB umps are paid a lot of money to be professional. By letting cat hers continually get away with framing balls into strikes is no great look for the umpires. Btw please no more challenges on plays with robo umps etc. The speed up rules are fine and appear to be working but adopting any new rules to challenge balls and strikes just makes for a disjointed game. I like the human element of umpiring.
  20. I'm not surprised that the national sports media doesn't think much of the Twins. They haven't for years. I think the Twins can win the division and win a playoff game this year. My hesitation is that yes there are way to many " ifs" with the team. I'm beginning to worry more and more about our anemic offense. Other than Polanco that's injured many of those that are injured and were injured last year need to play and shi something. For example for all the raving we hear about Kirilloff we haven't seen enough of him to see if he can really help the club. Others also really haven't proven much to believe they are going to make a big difference. Yes they could make a difference but other than Polanco no one has really proven anything. I'm still sticking to my estimate of 82-85 wins. I was so happy to see Rocco used the same starting lineup two days in a row!!
  21. Nice win Twins. Let's take it for what it's worth. Twins had great pitching, Luke warm hitting, and bullpen was great. I was so happy Rocco didn't put Pagan in yesterday. His time will come. Go Twins
  22. Isn't it interesting how starting pitchers pitch fewer innings but get top dollar? To pitch only 5-6 innings once or maybe twice per week and yet make millions seems so backwards. Bullpens are becoming so important as the pitch up to half the innings in many games. With Gray, Maeda, and Mahle playing on their last contract year maybe we need to concentrate some on a stronger bullpen.
  23. Love your comment, Fire Dan Gladden!! Right on. This regime is still a work in progress entering their 7th season in FO. I think they treat the fans with disdain and disrespect. Their stubbornness to stick with their "plan" as opposed to their results may work. It may also backfire on them. IMO this should be a put up or leave season.
  24. If the Twins stay relatively healthy they should have a good chance of winning the division. If with this roster turnover and another record Twins payroll the results should be there. Not win ing the division or not making the playoffs with this team is not an option. If they fail, the FO and manager must be held accountable. Let's all hope for a fun summer of Twins baseball.
