    No they should not extend him. It is much too nearly in his career. Perhaps players like Walker should be looked at, or cullpepper first.

    Nothing against Lowe but this doesnt move tge needle at all. We already have players that platoon at first. Stop the platooning. We need regular first baseman to play everyday. Its also not Lewis. He needs to go.

    For a team that has done very little the past many years the 40 man roster construction has let's of opportunities. We have a lot of dead weight that can easily br removed. Not that many tough decisions really. Unless the team decides two roll out the same thing next season.

    Not sold on Zoll yet but waiting to see how he handles this off season. I was perplexed by roster management decisions. Mainly why he carried 3 catchers on the major league roster (Jackson) and then he never played. Why earlier in the year he called up players that played full time in minors then they rode the bench or played second fiddle to a convoluted platoon system. Also the adding players at the deadline was ok but he missed the boat on not trading players like Jeffers that could leave for nothing. The jury is still out.

    Twins have had issues with roster management in all areas for years now. We dont seem to have the right people in place to make the right decisions.

    My problem with the Twins payroll hasnt been with the amount, its been with how it is allocated. Spending so much of payroll on one "superstar" like Correa and Donaldson, et al is ridiculous. Im not a Pohlad pocket protector or a " cheap pohlad" lantern. I just think they have had the wrong people in place to manage the payroll. Hire a real GM to start with. Move on from the high payroll of questionable "stars". Someone needs to makes the difficult decisions about roster construction and payroll management. The Pohlads themselves have always said they are not baseball people. They need to hire a seasoned person that is.

    I agree they should moves on from Larnach and Lewis. I like Larnach much more than Lewis. But non- tendering and /or releasing them and getting nothing in return sure seems wasteful. It also shows very poor roster management. It looks like we will already lose Jeffers for nothing. Oh that's right we may get an extra draft pick. Big deal. Not much of a return for an all star catcher. They should have traded a couple of these guys the past few years to get something. Trading a part time player like a relatively healthy Larnach and yet keeping Buxton who is also part time due to his long list of stays on IL is foolish. The roster management on this team is very poor.

    Interesting article. I dont see any of those in a Twins uniform. Dump Lewis and a couple other fringe players in a trade and get a realistic first baseman.

    I agree with your list. I think when you have players that have been with you a while non tendering though understandablr, indicates to me some poor management. To let them go and get nothing is a failure. Yes players like Larnach may not get much on a trade but they could be bundled together to get something.

    Ryan should have been traded two years ago. In over 50 second half starts for the Twins, Ryan has posted an ERA over 5. Hes great the first half but not someone you can count on as an ace during a pennant drive. Buxton apparently after this MLB season only has a 5 team no trade clause for the final 2 years of his contract. Not a total no trade clause. Get rid of him too. He causes way too many roster problems. Im not confident in Zoll.

    So far all the Pohlads are selling is hype and hope. Its been their marketing program for decades. I woild love to see more day games especially during the weekend. Also they need to complain about the idiotic scheduling they keep getting. Playing 20% of your home games in April is a disaster. And its happening again next year. Ridiculous in this climate. And yes add to payroll. But dont just throw money at it. Meaningfully disperse tge payroll. Signing players like Correa to huge contracts is terrible when you dont have the will or means to build around it. Falvey was terrible at distributing the payroll dollars given him. I hope Zoll doesnt become Falvey 2.0

    And im sure now that we have fired Pete Maki as Pitching coach over these mostly castoffs and rejects from other clubs we wall make it to World Series in 2027. How convenient to have a scapegoat to blame it on.

    Joe Ryan has been bad the second half of the season for quite a while now. In over 50 second half starts in his Twins career his ERA is over5.00. Not a true number 1 you want trying two pitch you to the playoffs. Twins totally messed up the catching situation with Ryan Jeffers. He should have been traded to get something. The draft pick they nay get is peanuts to what tgey coukd have gotten. Buxton cannot be considered a part of the core team. Hes always injured. Doesnt playing knly 2 of 12 seasons as a "full time" player tell you hes totally unreliable? To put him anywhere in the outfield would only hurt the development of players like Jenkins. Yes its also time to move on from Lewis. I certainly dont believe the Pohlads are all of a sudden going to dump millions into payroll. That just adds to the debt.

    Well thought out article. I online head a couple i didnt agree with. Bell was graded too low. Especially when you game Buxton a B for only playing half a season again. I would have gives Bell a B+ and Buxton a c. But that's just my opinion. The others i pretty much agree with. Future could be decent. But who knows? They still finished below .500 in a very weak division and american league.

    Very good article. Well thought out! After more than 10 years of waiting and hoping Buxton might grace us with his presence and actually play and produce its time to stop considering him part of this core. He is well past that. Like it or not Buck has been a big part of the reason the team doesnt contend.

    Nice article. Remember prospects are just suspects until they prove themselves. Then you must have a GM that is willing too mo ve out that dead weight that is sometimes producing but a lot of times is holding back development. After the curious moves and especially non moves at the trade deadline im pretty convinced Zoll is not the right person for that job.

    Great article. I kept wondering when someone was going to take the Twins to task over the Jackson situation.. like roster construction in general the Jackson situation was so poorly played. Wasting a spot on the 26 man roster you have no intention of using. Thats almost as bad as considering Buxton a core piece of your team when you have to poster an extra players to help carry him to the IL. I like some of the young players playing now but there is very little sense of direction. Unless of course they rid the team of unneeded players. And yes im all for getting rid of Zoll.

    Absolutely not. They dud not play meaningful games in September. Its just people trying to push the few positives left with this organization. Pohlad also says they increased payroll at the trade deadline. The roughly 8 million increase us about 8% increase. Big deal when the payroll was cut nearly 60 million in the past two and a half years. Fact is they blew it. 2026 was the years in the American League to makes a solid showing. The league as a whole is very poor and the Central was very winnable this year with a winnable division. Everyone played lousy. So it was IMO a very down year. Looks like they will set another record low attendance record at Target FIeld. Cleveland against, with a very low payroll of 71 million seems to regularly know how and where to use it. Not so much the Twins.

    One thing fun about Ober is since his velocity is down so much he must use craftiness to pitch. His control must be fine point. If its not he gets banged around. But when he is on it is fun watching the opposing batters flail away . Its fun to see someone that can actually pitch instead of throwers of 100 mph fastball that just fling it up there and see what happens. Just would be run to see him be better more than not. I say keep him.

    Add to that the recently firing of head of players drafting, development etc of Deron Johnson afternoon 30 years. This just happened kind of quietly a couple of weeks ago. It seems likely that these positions and others are cuts in management labor costs. Im worried Zoll is staying. He must be paid on the cheap. They are too top heavy anyway. 4 assistant General managers? Seems excessive. And how about all of the coaches the players have? Seems way excessive especially since its tough to see any improvements. Use some of those savings for the on field talent lol

    Lots of great comments . I think one of the Twins biggest problems has not been the total payroll dollars but where they are allocated. Falvey did a terrible job of managing payroll. The Twins had the highest and second highest payroll kn the Central for most of falveys tenure. Throwing money at it doesn't guarantee anything except for multi million dollar debt load. This team needs new upper management. Plus they just fired their long timr player director Deron Johnson. A 32 year employee.

    No the Twins messed it up. They should have waited longer so that maybe he would miss more if not all of next season if there is one. Putting up with Buxtons injuries isnt just an issue for Byron. It affects the team as well and not because he plays well for a month tgen is injured plays poorly then the season is over. It happens all the time. Hes only played full time 2 years out of 12. You cant count on him and it hampers the roster always, and i mean always having to roster another player to plan for his inevitable injury. Its way past time to move on from Buxton. To keep thinking of him as one of your core players is foolhardy.
