Jeffers is not north anything near the QO. Hes a good catcher playing extra well in his contract year. That doesnt make him a haĺl of fame. The Twins have only won 5 of their past 15 games. The buying was in part a mistake. IMO they should have done both. They continue to male some foolish and curious roster decisions. They are paying Lopez 21.5 million this year and next. No way they should offer Jeffers even more. The compensation pick is not enough for Jeffers. He should have been traded.

The thought they aren't only 1.5 games out of a playoff spot is a reflection more of the poor teams in american league than proving Twins are contenders. This team even if it mskes the playoffs doesnt make them contenders. Play some young guys yes. But you must have patience with them. You cant expect guys like Jenkins to step in and im.ediately become a superstar. If he is on the 40 man and if there is a lockout he cannot play minor league baseball. That is a consideration. Yes ge certainly deserves they opportunity.

Phillies 7, Twins 5: This One Might Have Done It
Whitey333 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Although i didnt predict a sweep by the Phillies, I am not surprised. They hard a chance on Sunday as tge Phillies were willing to give thr game to the Twins by starting Painter. But sheltons misuse of the Bullpen Saturday came back in part to bite theme on Sunday. Twins need to play the young players now and see what they can do. Any continued mis calculations about their playoff contention need to be dumped. Even if they somehow male the playoffs it doesnt make them a contender.- 81 replies

Was at the game Saturday night. Goodbye crowd over 29,000. It probably wouldn't have male a difference but Shelton may have messed up the bullpen fir Sunday. That is IF the game in close. Using some of your better bullpen arms to mop up an already one sided losing game seems counter productive. Nice pre game video salute to ex twin and current Phillies closer Duran. As i said attendance the time and i still say the Twins have up too much to acquire Hoffman.

It's a shame people rip on Keaschall. If you look at him objectively he is one of the few Twins that hustles. Especially running to first base. Watch how many of our veterans players jog to first. People want the young players to gain experience yet have no patience formistakes. By the way last week Lewis was in a slump where he struck out 6 of 7 plate appearances and 8 of 11. Plus he cost a couple of key runs at first base. Oh why do we still have 3 catchers on the team? Jackson is a wasted roster spot if he just .

Byron Buxton Could Be Activated in the “Next Few Days”
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
For 10 of the past 12 years they have us waiting with extreme anticipation about Buxtons return to the lineup. The sports media and especially the Twins propaganda machine always treat Buxton with kid gloves and like he's baseballs version of the second coming. So is the season saved when Buck steps back on the field? I admit he was great last year. One of the few full seasons in which he has played. I believe 2017 was the other. He had a good season going until about 2-3 weeks before he went on the injury list. When he does come back he will need to be hot at the get go. There isn't much season left for us to wait for him to be productive. Sounds familiar!! -
Yes Griffin should have been traded for. Jeffers should have been traded. Do people really think Jeffers is only worth a comp pick? Those pics are so arbitrary. It seems so unlikely that he resigns with Twins or if they even offer him a long term deal. And they still carry 3 catchers on the 26 man roster. Very strange roster management. I give the Twins a C on trade deadline. As always they go through less expensive route. Oh yes they increased the payroll by 8 million. That's a start. But keep in mind the payroll has been reduced by nearly 60 million over the past 2 and a half years. And how much payroll can they spend? They were out spending payroll for quite some time and that in part led to massive debt. Im not a Pohlad pocket protector im just saying. Nothing really changes. If they dont sell in the next few years we can just expect more of the same.

Yes. Get Walker up here too. The Twins have lsot 6 of their last 8 games. They played entertaining but losing ball in Milwaukee. Not unexpected. After they play the Orioles they have the Phillies, Braves, and Padres before returning to central division play.

Another listless performance by the Twins. And Ryan. In Ryan's last 3 games he has pitched 15.1 innings giving up 25 hits 16 earned runs and only 10 strikeouts. His ERA during that span is 9.53. He looks like he is continuing his poor 2nd half performances over the past couple of years. They don't have much of a chance without a healthy and productive Joe Ryan. Not to mention the Perennial injury listed Byron Buxton. Some players are going to have to step up . These 2 stars again can't be counted on..Go Twins!

Should Derek Shelton Have Loaded the Bases?
Whitey333 replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting comments. One of the frustrating things for me is this new attitude about process being more important than results. The result is most import. As far as Lewis bad play at first. It's understandable when you consider he and many others are moved around and hardly play one or a normal position. That's part of the price you pay by having guys play multiple positions. It's convenient but not always practical or workable. But i like Shelton much better than Rocco. -
It will be fun to see if any of our great current prospects make the grade and make it to the majors. Or will they continue to just be more Twins hype. Let's see them play.

Twins are in a tough spot. Are they contenders in a watered down American League? Or are they contenders only because the league is so watered down? Even with trades it's questionable if they make the playoffs or even advance past the first round if they do. They must also plan for the future. If these prospects we have are so great then get them up here and see what they can do. Everyone assumes Jenkins, Culpepper, Rodriguez etc are going to be mainstays on the team. Get them up here and have them prove it. We have plenty of dfa material to demote. And Buxton can't be counted kn AGAIN!

Twins are in a tough spot. They are "contenders" with a lot of other "pretenders". Are the Twins good or has mediocrity sucked them in? We need some additions but at what cost? If you trade people like Larnach and Bell you better get something good back. This team would not be in "contention" without them. Jenkins? He probably should have been called up already. Recalling Gray was a slap in the face to Jenkins and fans. However keep in mind Jenkins has not played in the major leagues yet. To guarantee his success and future stardom at this point in his career is ridiculous. But I must say get him here and see what he does. Maybe he will be a star.

I like Jeffers but there has been no indication of him or the Twins wanting to sign a long term deal. This team still has shown very little indications of direction and leadership.

Yes i totally agree. Tristan Gray doesn't belong on this team. For a team that says they want to be aggressive and compete they sure have an odd way of showing it. We sure handle our prospects strangely. 3 catchers? And Jeffers didn't even play. Your article is spot on. The Twins have had a strange mix of players. It's worked decently but could be better.

Twins 3, Royals 2: Royce Lewis Walks Off the Royals!
Whitey333 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice unexpected come from behind win. Nice walk-off hit by Lewis. I hope it's the start of a hot streak. Hes been shuffling for a while. Buxton? What can you say? We've been putting up with this for over a decade. It's frustrating because you can't count on him to play everyday. Lets sweep the Royals and then prepare for some tougher opponents coming up. Go Twins!!- 57 replies

At some point, maybe not this season idk, those great prospects we keep hearing about need to be utilized. It's nearing time to play them or use some of them as trade chips to improve the major league roster. They have been telling us the prospects are great. Let's see.

Luis Castillo Could Bolster An Already Strong Rotation
Whitey333 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
No one Castillo. Hes not much better than we have. We have plenty of excess to trade from to get a quality pitcher. -
Baseball Gods to Tom Pohlad: 'Aight, Bet'
Whitey333 replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I really don't expect the Twins to go on a spending spree and trade for expensive players. IMO the team is only in contention due to the overall mediocrity in the American League. They really aren't much different than last years team. Twins have it tough in that they have a chance but have so many needs they can hardly be called contenders.- 128 replies

Report: Rival Teams Expect Twins To Trade Ryan Jeffers
Whitey333 replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Yes it would be prudent to trade Jeffers. Don't settle for a crapshoot compensatory draft pick. Get something decent for him now. Trade him this week. -
Buxton last Homer's was June 22, against the Dodgers i believe. But to be fair he was on IL for part of it. But that's part of Byrons history with Twins. And yes so many times, like now, he looks lost at the plate. Lewis the same thing. Sunday I think the Twins will win big. Then everyone will be telling us how great they are. The team at least record wise and standings wise isn't much different from their position last year. Even after all those trades they are still stuck in mediocrity. Which is pretty good in the American.League I guess. Go Twins!

Very negative in your face article! You write stories for Twins Daily that usually supports differing opinions. Then slam those same people that don't agree with your opinion. One of the many things wrong with baseball IMO (there im doing it too) is telling us how to be fans. Don't go there. Baseball is already in bad shape. But thanks for your opinion anyway.
