  1. Moore would have been a good signing but the Twins don't pay market rates for their bullpen. It's low-ball the bullpen and hope they work out. To me the bullpen can be successful if the starters pitch further into games. But if it is still going to be the philosophy of letting starting pitchers go only 5 or 6 innings tops no matter how well the pitcher is throwing them I'm afraid that in the long run the bullpen will not be able to hold up as it is currently constructed and managed.
  2. Excellent list. I can't argue with any of those selected.
  3. Awesome article. Well researched and written. To me it won't matter at all if Buxton cannot play more. His career .244 BA does not make him a superstar. But the potential is there. It's always there. It has been for 8 seasons now. We just rarely see it. I hope this is his year but the previous 7 years have told me not to hold my breath

  5. Buxton is not a worry. He is entering year 8 with the Twins. He's only played one full season in his previous 7. That was 140 games in 2017. To count your seasons success on his availability if foolish IF he is healthy and IF he plays a full season, and IF he performs at a high level with high level results it will be a luxury not an expectation. The Twins do need him to be successful but he's not the only player on the team.
  6. It's really just the same old thing for the Twins. Too many ifs. Especially with the pitching staff. So I can add a few ifs myself. The Twins will be successful IF the injured come back healthy. If the players have career years. If Baldelli puts his computer and spreadsheet away and realize there is a ball game going on the field. I'd like to see if he can actually manage the on field product. Haven't seen much of that during his time here. There is potential If Buxton plays a full season and if he produces. We've heard that for 8 seasons. If the .199 hitter we signed for 11 million produces. If Kirilloff can play and produce. If we can show we didn't need Arraez and Urshela offensive production by having players pick up the slack. If we have someone to protect Correa in the lineup. If we don't hen why pitch to him? If Pagan... Let's not go there. My point being that the Twins need all of their ifs to come through this season to be productive. It can happen. But it could just as easily blow up in their face. Another if: if that happens then it's time for Falvey to go.
  7. Nice article. I hope AK can finally become the full time productive hitter we all see gli.pses of. Kinda like a guy named Byron Buxton in that regard. Anyway good luck Alex. Go Twins
  8. Pretty sad that you have to rip a very fun team to watch in the Bomba squad. They were at least fun to watch that year. The team the past couple of seasons have been totally boring. And everyone touts the prospects. Yes they are very important but if they were so great wouldn't they be on the major league roster now? Even the FO must realize we don't have very many major league ready prospects or the wouldn't have need to throw 11 million at a lifetime .199 hitter that whiffs more than Sano and Buxton.
  9. I think there is the real possibility this team competes. But your assumption that they have built a long term competitive team are presumptuous at best. This is a team with too many ifs, too many players on one year deals, too many pitchers with a history of injury problems. If, there is that word again, they are injury free and play to their potential they should be fine. But you still have Rocco that is likely to wreck the whole thing again. If the team stays relatively injury free and ends up not being competitive then Rocco and the FO must go.
  10. It doesn't really matter about the April schedule. To me it does for for others I guess not. We will be told time and time again when they lose that it's a marathon and not a sprint. Doesn't that just fry you? The implications from that and many of the comments here on TD are that the games don't matter. Sure when they win in April and early may everyone is excited. When they go on a losing streak it's like who cares the games don't matter this early in the season. Yes they could have been 2-4 against the Astros but they weren't. They were 0-6. You can't change that. Yes it's a long season and I will follow them throughout but wins and losses in April I think still add up at the season ending totals. Or has that changed? I actually think they will hold their own in April. The games will count regardless, I think.
  11. What a terrible article this was. How dare any fans criticize the great results of this twins team. They've been spinning their wheels basically for the past 20 years. Yet fans who disagree with the FO etc. are blasted in articles like this because we don't understand. What?? What kind of crap is this. It also is frustrating when articles like this keep telling us fans that we don't know what we are talking about or are stupid. Don't talk down to the fans. The FO should be a little more open. This team plays boring, uninspired, and undisciplined baseball overseen by a manage that has the same qualities. Just because we don't always agree we with their philosophy doesn't mean we should be denigrated or talked down to.
  12. I am for giving Gallo a chance. I mean what else can we do he's here. However I think it is more likely to prove that spending 11 mil on an 8 year career BA of 199 is way over spend. You talk about him having productive at bats. What's productive about striking out 38% of the time. Striking out is totally non productive. It's a meaningless at bat except to pad a pitchers stats. My guess is fans will be booing him like they did Sano by mid season. Sure he will hit some home runs in streaks but will flail away most of the time being overmatched by pitchers. It may be just as wrong to continually knock Arraez for only winning the batting title. You continually appear to knock him in your comparison to Gallo. Shameful. It's getting so tiring of people shoving the new analytical stats down our throats. Baseball has been very boring the past few years. Analytics being used in large part to make mediocre players appear to be good. It's a travesty the way baseball is being destroyed from once was the grand old game. MLB is just a shell of what it used to be. And that she'll is cracking more and more.
  13. Give the FO credit for making deals to try and improve the team. They seem to love to take chances with pitchers with arm problems. Lopez has been on the DL 3 times with pitching arm issues. However I think he can be a good not great addition. I wouldn't be surprised if this is sonny grays last year with twins. The pieces seem to be mostly in place. Now it's up to the players and Rocco to win the division.n with record payroll being spent and the numerous roster changes and thinning of farm system, missing the playoffs would be totally unacceptable. Just win baby.
  14. Fulmer would be 100% better than that stuff Pagan. Pagan apparently has the stuff but his results over the past three years have been horrible. Fulmer has decent history. The Twins with the forth or fifth bullpen? Let's get serious. Our bullpen was a disaster last year and has not been greatly improved IMO. Much of what Fan graphs says is very questionable at best. I sat with the Twins philosophy of using the bullpen at least half of the game day in and day out demands a bullpen with depth, experience, and results. For the Twins to contend, one of the big question marks is how will the bullpen hold up under all the heavy usage. Didn't work out so great last year except for a couple guys that had great years.
  15. Although the Twins may appear better on paper there are still issues with this team. One of the big ones to me is the bullpen. There is definitely some question marks there starting with Pagan. I know the team doesn't care if Pagan loses games and or blows saves because his " stuff" is good. They have told us many times that the process is more important than the results. If the philosophy is again going to be limiting starting pitchers to 5 or 6 innings on most games, then you better have an excellent bullpen to cover all the innings. Last year's pen did ok but couldn't hold up under the continuing barrage of innings most days. It needs to be deeper IMHO. I know injuries were terrible last year, as they were for many teams. Seems like the FO is banking on luck to make them a contender. They better hope those injured players are back and play up to their potential or it's going to be another long summer.
  16. I'm sure hoping the moves the Twins made this off season propel the team to the playoffs. That is questionable. Losing fan favorites isn't helpful for sure. But winning and playing exciting baseball will bring fans. Yes winning. The two s have been almost unwatchable lately
  17. Actually Maeda had arm and injury concerns with the Dodgers. That's why the Dodgers were able to sign him to a team friendly deal at the time.
  18. Could be an interesting trade. I'm a little concerned we gave up two pitching prospects. But they may or may not be good down the line. I noticed Taylor was denigrated in your article as only being a career .241 hitter. That is so odd. Buxton is a career .244 hitter, has averaged like 73 games played throughout his 8 year career. Byron strikes out at a rate over 29%. I think the trade is good in that Byron probably will be injured again and we will need Taylors defense in center field quite often.
  19. Not sure how I feel. I really like Arreaz but realize we need pitching. Lopez is another pitcher we have that had a history of shoulder problems. He's been on the DL at least three times for those. I think we could have gotten more for the batting champion. Now we will have one less player getting on base. The two prospects we got one 17 and one 19 are just that. Prospects. Not likely to move the needle if at all for 4 years or more. Why do I have this feeling like we got fleeced again?
  20. The Twins need to change their philosophy just a little IMO. Taking gambles on injured or injury prone players is very risky and only seldom works out. There will always be risks with players injuries and performance. My beef is that this is done way too often. This team needs some stability. I kind of see the FO in a room with their fingers crossed hoping it all works. My belief is if they continue poor play the FO will be taking their finger crossing philosophy to another place.
  21. Yes I just hate it when players, coaches, and managers, poo poo losing games in April. They say things like it's a marathon not a sprint. God how I hate that. Last year's early season losses mostly by Pagan were in that category we were told. What a bunch of crap. I know they aren't going to win every game. But to imply that games in April and may are meaningless only is used by losing teams to try and cover up a poor team with a poor manager. Go Twins. We have 16 home games in April. Hopefully they will take advantage of that and get off to a good start.
  22. Nice article. Rocco may be a good manager but we will never know. The hard core analytics has ruined baseball!! Attendance and ratings continue to slide. Baseball used to be fun. It has been a big bore the past few seasons and getting worse. Too much stationary dead play. Too many walks and strikeouts. Everyone swinging for the fences no matter what the count is. Station to station baseball. No life to our Twins team. Very poor fundamentals. Plus our great manager is attached to the computer. I remember a couple of times this past season when Correa and Buxton were given the day off on the same day at home. Rocco's response was there day off happened on the same day and he didn't know what to do about it. Really??? Poor attendance, people coming to the park in huge part to watch Buxton and Correa. Then find out they are both healthy but it was their scheduled day off. The manager said he didn't know how to fix it. I've followed Twins for 60 years and still will this summer. But if the future of baseball is here now, it is in big trouble.
  23. Interesting article. At least the massive amount of money they gave Correa makes some sense. Paddock at 4 mil per for someone that has had two Tommy John surgeries could prove to be a big wast of money. Just like giving 11 million to a .199 career hitter in Gallo. That could also prove to be a big waste of money. But I realize they could both prove to be beneficial. Although not Paddock as he won't be pitching much if any this year. But that's what the Twins live off if is hope. They sell only hope to fans. Remember our own front office said that the process is more important than the results. But I enjoyed the article. Too bad it turned out to be an informercial for the Caretaker plan on TD
  24. I agree. Just a slight improvement. At this point not nearly enough to even win the central division. After investing about 25% of payroll into one player I hope whatever payroll money is left will be spent wisely. As it stands today this team has way too many holes on its roster to be a serious contender. I am expecting some meaningful additions to the team.
  25. I think a minor league deal in St. Paul could work. But honestly I think Sano needs a fresh start elsewhere. I still think might sign him for a small salary for 2023. But who knows? Maybe he doesn't want to play anymore.
