  1. Twins need pitching. They aren't deep enough at all. Our current staff has injury issues, performance issues and experience issues. I also think the Twins need to make Correa their best and FINAL offer. If he rejects it, then move on. It hampers team plans if we have to wait up to a couple of months for his decision as has been rumored. Besides that 30 some mil could sure be used to make improvements in other areas.
  2. Yes I agree. Abreu would be fine but at what cost? I don't see it happening. IMO we still need pitching. The White Sox have far better starting pitching than the Twins and they just added Clevinger. Good or bad I don't know. But Sox value starting pitching. I think the Twins should too. And for the analytical geeks:. Congratulations! You have done your part in aiding to the downfall of MLB. You Tell us Pagan is analytically a very good pitcher when statistically he's been one of the worst relief pitchers in baseball over the past three years. When you support a player like Correa by saying how many RBIs he had you go right around and say how RBIs aren't important. I for one find it repugnant that this new analytical wave has taken over. The grand old game was grand until the new generation of analytic lovers come in and change the whole foundation of the game as if they know better than the people who oversaw the game for decades. Today's game is very slow, boring, and has lost its personality.
  3. Im sure the Twins will do more dumpster diving to find pitching. They always do and it had worked so well lol. The current starting staff is full of maybes and hopefulness. Nothing on sound ground. If the twins philosophy will continue to be to let starters only go 5 innings, they better invest heavily on bullpen arms.
  4. Nice article. Well thought out. Part of the reason some people clamor to sign an ace or at least a very good SP is that the Twins don't have one now or in their system. They have failed to produce top quality pitching from within. Yes we can all name the possible starting pitchers the twins already have lined up that are currently on the roster. Just because people can throw those names out there doesn't mean that those are quality pitchers. Way too much unproven talent. Plus this FO has continually gone bargain basement shopping for pitchers. It hasn't done too well has it? If we are hell bent to spend so much money on Correa it will leave us little or no monies to improve in other areas. That is pitching especially. Unless Carlos can pitch lol
  5. If pagan is with the Twins when the season starts, it's time to start thinking about replacing this FO.
  6. The fact that Pagan is even in the discussion is ridiculous. He should have been sent packing a long time ago. I get so sick of management saying he has great stuff. Big deal if he can't get results. His "great stuff" cost the Twins about 12 games last year between losses and blown saves. Statistically he's been one of the worst relief pitchers in baseball over the past three years. Dump him.
  7. I don't think it's bargain basement enough for the Twins. They usually look to the dollar store for their fill in pitching and positions. Simply too expensive for those players. Yes let's use that money to help develop a major league pitching staff.
  8. I love Nelson Cruz but totally agree with you. I don't think there is much left in the tank for Cruz. To be honest I am a little surprised he hasn't retired. It's time.
  9. I would respectfully suggest that the same people urging the Twins to spend whatever it takes to sign Correa will be the first ones in line to complain that there is enough payroll left over to make the team competitive. I like Correa but not at an exhorbitant price. If the Twins have money to burn then instead of throwing all that money at one player, invest wisely in the many areas the club has needs. I'm only interested in signing Correa if their is a real plan to surround him with a good supporting cast. If we sign him but then go bargain basement shopping, then we blew it. So far with Correa on the team in 2022 the twins won 5 more games as a team. Obviously not all credited to Carlos. Will he draw fans? He didn't last year as the Twins had their lowest non pandemic attendance in Target field history. Like they say winning takes care of a lot of issues. But signing Correa without a good cast around him is likely to produce more losing, not winning.
  10. No way should they sign Gallo. Waste of time and team resources.
  11. Opt out clauses are ok but not after just one year. Plus make it mutual options. That way the team can get out of a possible bad contract as well. A one year opt out contract to a superstar does very little for the team. If the Twins don't resign Correa it begs the question as to what good did it do to have him here? Also if you sign one player to that much money and then can't or won't spend much more, you are still left with a mediocre team.
  12. Great feel good story. He certainly is not the guy to put over the top. I see Twins signed Garlick today. If it wasn't for the Twins neither Garlick or Contreras may not be in the majors much less on a 40 man roster. Great human interest stories. Sure doesn't move the needle much if at all for the Twins chances in 2023
  13. If the Twins continue the philosophy of starting pitchers they better significantly upgrade the bullpen. Our bullpen failed again last year because of overuse. Duran seems to be a great shut down closer. If you are not going to have him start, lock him to the closer role.
  14. Yes. Get him. Twins blew it by trading him for a couple of stiff pitchers. Plus we gave Padres money to pay Rogers salary. What kind of a messed up trade was that? Any twins team and FO that can keep that "great talent" Pagan is not serious at all about contending.
  15. Great article. Well researched and thought out. It's good to hear about the prospects even though about 95% will never get beyond the prospect status. Excellent article!!
  16. A perfect example of "analytics" running amuck. This insistance on the baseball nerds to inject their seemingly daily new statistical data and opinion have made of farce of the once grand old game.
  17. Correa? Who cares???. He turned down 70 million guaranteed from the Twins for the next two years because it wasn't enough. Why bother negotiating with an arrogant self promoter who just used the Twins for his own potential financial gain?
  18. Excellent article. I agree with your analysis. Problem is this FO has done a very poor job of investing in quality pitching. The signings and lack thereof for others really shows up. I imagine we will see more of the same this off season. Bargain basement pitching acquisitions usually shows up in the standings. Hope and what ifs and potential are the words the Twins live by and sell to the fans.
  19. Another in a long line of Carlos Correa stories. At least we don't have to read that many Buxton stories anymore. I'm of the opinion we should not, and will not sign him to a long term extension. Remember it was Correa who voided the last two years of his Twins contract. He turned away from 35 million each of the next two years. Apparently that's not enough for him. Yes we all figured he would opt out after one year. Let's face the fact:. The Twins were used by Correa to only improve himself. The Twins, Twins fans, media, were all taken in by his superstar status. He used us for his own benefit. What did the Twins gain by having him here? Not much IMO. The fact is that his offensive stats were rather anemic until September came and the team was out of it. Also he had a great September mainly by beating up on some minor league and unproven pitchers trying to make a name for himself. Correa was brutal in the clutch most of the season. Bottom line for me is it makes no sense to spend so much on one person when there will be little money left to improve the team in many needed areas. What good is it to have a superstar shortstop if your team is budget strapped? More mediocre baseball. Carlos Correa made his decision. He voided the last two years of his contract that made him the highest paid position player. The Twins had him already signed. He said it wasn't good enough. What arrogance. It's time to move on from Carlos.
  20. Yes I too am happy and totally unsurprised by this common sense move. I agree with a previous poster about how low the standards have become for starting pitchers. It's so sad to see the continued demise of the once great game.
  21. Last year Pohlad said there was plenty of money to sign both Buxton and Berrios to long term deals. A few days later Berrios was traded. I respect the Pohlad family for keeping the Twins somewhat competitive and giving fans stability in having a major league baseball franchise. Their team payroll is about in the middle of the pack compared to other teams. Maybe increase it some? Yes. Also maybe use what's available more wisely. Throwing all that money to Correa over those many years is foolish if there isn't enough money to pay others. Bottom line is I take everything he says with a big grain of salt.
  22. What possible good does it do to pay Correa so much that it leaves very little for the many areas of need on this team? Tying up that much money for several years will just maintain our mediocrity. If we continue to find bargain basement pitching in the reclamation pile, again and again, there will be no chance to be a serious consistent contender.
  23. If Jeffers is our best catching option, we are in a world of hurt.
  24. Yawn!! Looks like the camera was out of focus on the "new" cap logo.
  25. Yes we've heard that comment about the pohlads never turning us down, many, many, times over the years. Yes they could afford to sign Correa. But should they? Allotting that much money and years to one position, under the Pohlads budget, probably wouldn't allow monies for some of the good players we already have. Also wouldn't allow team to sign anyone else to fill some of the big holes in this Team. I don't think they will sign Correa, not should they.
