  1. I for one am still very concerned with our bullpen. I just don't see any real shut down relief guys other than maybe Duran and history is so short for him that is just going on pure "stuff". I know they don't want a set closer and all which leaves a big problem since Rocco hasn't shown the ability to get the most out of his pen in his time here yet. IMO he has been pretty bad managing his pen over the last couple years and with what seems to be available so far that could spell trouble as the season warms and the bats warm.
  2. Star players should play at home unless they are hurt. Fans pay good money to see them play. Rest them on the road. I personally will no longer attend a game due to the fact the last 3 games I've been to I have yet to see Buxton in center although he was healthy all 3 times. Last game I went to 3 starters were sitting. I don't pay that much to watch bench players.
  3. If he can play 140 games or more I give him as good of a chance as anyone at winning MVP
  4. What has been a little surprising to me has been Kepler willing to finally go with the pitch the other way this year. If he can continue this trend sooner rather than later teams will begin playing and pitching him a little different. Then he should get more pitches to pull with a bigger hole to pull them through!
  5. I love baseball and I enjoyed the game last night. I recorded it and stayed up til 3AM watching it after the Wild game. I didn't think it was boring, it was a good, close, 1 run game. I agree we need the ABS zone as the umping has gotten pretty bad. I also have to say that unless MLB is going to force the umps to enforce the rules already in place to keep the game moving the next logical step is some sort of "pitch" clock. And after reading so many of these comments I whole heartedly agree that this swing for the fences all the time approach has truly hurt the game. I have to add, the labor stoppage has also set the season and the game way back and it may take a few seasons to recover IMO.
  6. I have to disagree with you. I watch a lot of out of market games and for the most part Dick compares very well. However, he does need a decent partner again. Kaat is the best. Now if they could find a younger version of Kitty it would be an awesome team IMHO.
  7. yes he does and he still can't do a decent job of managing a bullpen. As the old saying goes "the buck stops here" and thats at Rocco.
  8. I just don't see Rocco ever getting any better at managing a bullpen. We have seen him stumble along through the last few seasons being bailed out by the bomba squad a couple of years, but without them we have a pretty bad team. If we get a lead we better keep adding on because Rocco will find a way to mess it up with the bullpen usage. Of course, it would help a whole lot if he had a few more guys down there that were dependable, but that too is his job to figure out who can fit in the right places.
  9. 2 Terrible coaching decisions for sure. Bad base running by Jeffers also. Beginning to look alot like the same Rocco type managed team. Undisciplined, uncertain, and under prepared. Probably need to make some bullpen moves and lets hope they do sooner rather than later or it could get out of hand quick. Don't know if they have what they need down on the farm but it sure doesn't look like they do on the big club.
  10. They keep saying they want to manage his IP. You do that by going 1 IP at a time, not 2 or "stretching out" to start.
  11. I've been saying for 2 years Rocco's biggest flaw is that he can't seem to be able to manage his bullpen. I figured last year that cost us at least 5 games by the all star break. Think that would have made a difference?
  12. Try making Rocco keep the best players on the field and in the lineup at home and save the rest days for when the team is on the road. Yesterdays game didn't get to see Buxton play center or Correa play short. That's why I quit going to games. Seems like every time I shell out big $ to go to a game they are "resting" players I am paying to watch. Its more than the price of the ticket. Parking, gas to get there, any type of concession and you're out $100 before you can blink. Then you get to watch a couple of bench players fill in for the guys you paid to come and see?
  13. I agree with the Dodgers decision to pull Kershaw. What I don't agree with is Rocco's lineup management. It was stated above that the best players should be rested on the road and that is 100% correct. Fans pay to watch their favorite players on the field and they show up at a game like yesterdays, and the manager is "resting" a couple of regulars? I call BS. They sure wont refund the ticket price will they. Put your best players on the field and in the lineup when you are home, period! Rest them on the road you meatheads!
  14. If I was in charge I would give Miranda a crash course in the OF while he is still in St.Paul. Let him work out there for a week or 2. That should be long enough to figure out if there is any chance of him picking it up. If so he could probably get up to the big club very quick, If not you have lost nothing.
  15. I have to agree that he should probably be a semi regular DH. I would bat him 4th behind Buck. Polo, and Correa. He may not hit for power, but he would drive in runs IMHO.
  16. Once again, Rocco gets an F for bullpen management. Can't blame the loss on that, but really, why would anyone put a rookie in for his debut against that team, on a night like that? Rocco, you should be ashamed of yourself!
  17. I would normally be real cautious after only 2 outings and 3IP but this kid looks to be the real deal. High velo with good control and movement, a couple of off speed pitches to mess with a hitters timing, wow, what a weapon. I can see why he would make a dominate starter at some point and why the FO would want to keep him in the pen to reduce the strain on his arm. I just look forward to watching him pitch!
  18. There are several other people gone besides Donaldson. I don't recall any complaints abouy the clubhouse atmosphere the year before last and JD was here then, but the team was winning. Losing brings out the worse in people. Especially when new people are brought in to help and fail so bad like a few of the pitchers did last year. That had to drive some of the guys crazy. It did me and I wasn't even there!
  19. You make a valid point. It is much easier to be good at framing pitches if your pitchers live on the edges of the plate. Another thing that affects the "framing" is what strike zone the ump is calling. As we all have seen, some umps call wider zones (in and outside) and some call taller zones (high and lower). Of course, some umps are all over the place with their calls. A good catcher (and hitter) adapts as best he can to what the ump is calling that day. IMO that is why the ABS that they are trying in the minors would be a good thing.
  20. Its still early everyone! Though I agree Duffy is not a shut down closer type reliever. As usual we see Rocco out of some sense of loyalty, admirable as it may be, going with a guy he was with from the past seasons in Duffy. He also had Duffy up in the 9th inning in game 1 in case we tied the score. I haven't seen Pagan pitch in the last couple of years so I don't know how he has regressed, but he was really good a few years ago. I have reservations about Cotton and his control. IMO we should be looking at Alcala and Duran to close out and end games. At least for now. See how the young guys handle the stress. They both seem to have the stuff and the swagger. why not give them a little rope at least until they're close to hanging themselves?
  21. Looked real good in his debut. Could be a dominant closer with that kind of stuff if he can be as good as he was in his 1st outing.
