I agree that the Twins may be closer than most think, especially if they expand the playoff field. So many people complain about the fact they don't have the #1 ace to front the rotation and boy is that true. However, IMO signing a couple mid rotation type arms like Pineda or trading for some in that same range while we see what the youngsters can do in the minors or in the pen may keep us afloat. Of coarse, we still need a ss, but I don't think we need a superstar, (though that would be nice). We should still have a fairly potent offense that can score runs. I don't mind a bunch of 6-5 or 8-7 type games.

Pros and Cons of a Pitch Clock
Karbo replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not against a pitch clock, though I don't think it would be needed if the umpires would keep the games moving by keeping the batters in the box more. All this fussing and messing around between pitches is more on the hitters IMO. Why can't the HP ump keep things moving better and signal for the pitch? If the batters not ready, it would be an automatic strike. -
If the MLBPA was really concerned about the next generation of players they would be fighting for improved conditions for minor leaguers, even though they are not yet union. That is a fight I could back.

What Impact Does Missed Baseball Have?
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree that baseball has fallen way behind in marketing its product. When I was young (in the early 60s) just about every boy (and some girls) played little league. Now they play shoting or racing or whatever on their phones. We used to have "knothole days" where we could get to go to a game cheap, go early, watch batting practice, catch some balls, and get autographs. It was such a thrill. Last time (and only time) I was at Target field I looked around and saw a few kids but most of them were looking down at their phones, not at the game. I don't know the solution and I don't think the owners or players do either, nor do I think they care all that much either. So lomg as those TV contracts keep bringing in the big bucks. -
I agree that Palacios has a real shot here now that it looks like the rule 5 draft is DOA this year. Unless we sign a ss he seems like our best solution as I don't think they will move Polo off of 2nd, and they don't seem to think Gordon can handle short.

The Twins Need To Protect Mitch Garver
Karbo replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point I think AK is going to see more OF. Unless Larnach shows he can hit the off speed stuff and I think he will have to show that in St. Paul 1st. So I would think there may be some time at 1st but I would think more time at DH. Just a guess but with Miranda ready for at least a look I would think he will get some chances at 1st. Although they may also try him in the OF, I'm told his arm doesn't play real well there. Bit of a puzzle. As Roger said we have an awful lot of corner pieces, now may be the time to try and trade some out for other missing pieces?- 17 replies

strike outs and innings pitched by starters

I think you have to also take into consideration the balls that are used. Todays baseballs are much different and changed out every time they hit the dirt. -
Second Deadline Passes, Still No Deal
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree they would be and it would be a tease. All these super rich owners and players are full of BS. Neither side cares about anything but money and winning. This argument that players are trying to lookout for future players is BS also. If they were they would be forcing the owners into improving conditions for the minor leagues, regardless of the fact those guys aren't union. Those are the future generations of players. The guys coming up seem to get paid VERY well,(minimum) better than most people can dream of, to play a game many of us play or at least have played, for fun. -
Second Deadline Passes, Still No Deal

I have to call B.S. on this. No contract means the players would walk out as soon as the regular season would start. -
Has Miguel Sano Met Expectations?
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sano has certainly been worth more than what he's been paid. As far as expected Avg, no he has not even come close to his minor league and rookie numbers that most were thinking he would hit as a norm in the .270 to .280 range. As others have noted his lack of contact has killed him. He just cant seem to grasp he is so strong he can power the ball out of any field even without pulling or in some cases if he doesnt even get the solid contact. This era of "homers are sexy" has hurt so many promising players that all they think about is the mammoth blasts to get on sports center or whatever TV highlights are on, and the writers are talking about. -
Shifting Minnesota’s Defensive Focus in 2022
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have mixed feelings about the ban. The ban started because so many players got pull happy trying to hit homeruns which led to todays all or nothing type of game that I really don't like as much. The hope was that more players would try to go the other way to beat the shift but that never happened. I don't really know what banning the shift will accomplish other than perhaps making the game last longer with more singles, and perhaps more double plays. IMHO they would be better off to continue to try to find a way to "deaden" the ball a little bit to decrease the lift or carry somehow if possible without messing up the rest of the game. -
Although I agree that I would hate this to happen, I believe you are correct. Though I do think the Twins should step up and try to trade for Odo,(shouldn't cost much) and sign Pineda as you said, and that would help alot.

The Twins Shouldn't Trade for an Ace
Karbo replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would be against giving up so many young players for 1 arm, at least at this point. The Twins are so far away from contention it just doesnt make sense to me. I would rather use Arraez in a trade to get a stopgap shortstop or mid rotation arm like Odo and add in Pineda on a FA contract. Get a couple of guys that can help guide the young pitchers along. We should get our guy back and healthy from TJ surgery next season, and that to me will prbably be a better time to go for it. By then, we should have a better idea about some of our young arms. They will be 2 years out of the lost covid season and hopefully some will stay healthy enough to get innings in. If not, that will tell us plenty also.- 73 replies

Should the Twins Draft Kumar Rocker?
Karbo replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Long time til draft. Wait and see who all jumps this year and then make a decision. LOTS of red flags, so there may very well be better or at least as promising players coming to light available at #8. -
Twins Daily 2022 Top Prospects: #5 Joe Ryan
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have to agree with others that while he looked good in his debut, the sample size is much to small to get too carried away. These are very good hitters that make adjustments as they see video and the more they see the better adjustments they make. So the question I ask is can Ryan make small adjustments at this early stage of his career to keep these hitters of balance? Only time will tell. If he can we should have a quality starter for the next few years. -
Royce Lewis Continues to Get a Raw Deal
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Once again its the young guys or the "little" guys that feel the pain while the older uber rich guys that have lots of dough sit on their butts and stubbornly wait for the other side to cave. Shame on BOTH sides of you. Think about these kids. Get back to the table and try to negotiate in GOOD faith like you truly WANT an equitable deal instead of this "stick it to the other side" attitude. -
I don't see Polo moving back to short. I dont think Larnach starts at bigs either, and am not so sure about Rooker.

CBA Musings (2/11): What’s Happening and What’s Next?
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Neither side gets to cry poverty. BOTH sides are stinkin rich. Owners of a business should make money as should employees. However it seems that in the case of pro ball they are trying so hard to beat each other they HAVE forgotten about the good of the game. IMO especially the players have no concern for the game. BOTH sides need to pull their heads out of their butts and act like grown adults, sit down and figure this out NOW! If they really wanted a true arbiter they only need to get a panel of real fans and get their input on what they want to see for rules. Then they could haggle out pay. Of course that would make too much sense. -
Do the Twins Have a New Piranha?
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
OK While I agree completely with your argument about arm strength, there is something else to take into consideration IMHO. The way clubs are shifting. In the old days a ss would be making a lot of throws from deep in the hole, but these days not so many. 45 years ago when I played in college the guy with the arm was actually the 3rd baseman. The ss we had was very quick to get rid of the ball which made up for the fact his arm, though strong and accurate, wasnt as strong as the 3rd. Now it seems like 3b is at ss with the shift many times anyway. I'm guessing arm strength is why the Twins dont want to give him a chance at ss on a regular basis, and since they have watched him through his entire career in the minors I'm sure they have a good reason. But after watching a season of an almost automatic out at the plate I sure would like to try something (not named Polanco) at short.- 9 replies

3 Players That Could Surprisingly Help the 2022 Twins
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With no ss on the roster I wonder what the coaches have seen that sour them on giving Gordon a shot. He played there his entire minor league career so there must be some flaw they see. Anyone know what it is?- 55 replies

Dreaming On Trevor Story to the Twins
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While I think it would be great adding Story, I just don't see it happening. It makes alot of sense (maybe too much) to shore up the Defense behind thr young guns as they develop. However, this FO to date just seems they are against BIG contracts that are long term and slightly risky. Other than the Donaldson deal They really don't have any record of long term FA big money contracts. As I remember, Cruz only got 1 or 2 years. Buxton is not a FA. Am I missing anyone? -
A Jake Odorizzi Reunion Would Benefit All Three Sides
Karbo replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can see a trade working out depending of course on who we trade back. I think Odo still has some value, and I have more faith in him at this point than Bundy.
