  1. Wow, you would think by reading some of these comments that Rogers could single handidly win us a championship. Last time I checked the normal roster size is 26. The normal number of games to be played is 162. Thats alot of starts for pitchers to make. In the pre-trade rotation we had 2 guys that had little to next to no experience in the majors as the starters. 1 other guy that has hardly pitched in the last 2 years, and 1 guy that IMO has pretty much stunk for all but 1 of the last few years. That leaves 1 starter that has any kind of proven track record, and the number of innings pitched for him doesn't impress me either. We needed at least another starter that has some experience in the majors. I hate to lose Rogers too, but IMO, it sure isn't as bad as some of the other readers feel it is. I'd be willing to bet, even with adding this starter, we will still be needing to call on our minor league depth a few times before this season is over!
  2. I have been encouraged watching Kepler hit in ST. He seems to be staying on the ball a bit longer going up the middle and even the other way a little more. If he can just learn there is a whole other field on the other side of 2nd base, teams will have to start pitching and playing him a little differently.
  3. Are they thinking 6 man rotation at least to start the season? Obviously, at least to begin with it will be bullpen by committee. There are teams that make it work, and Rocco comes from that environment, so maybe?
  4. I personally worry more about Bundy than Archer. Also. I am a bit concerned with the way Rocco handles the pen. Who does he use as "piggyback" options? I saw a bit of some of the young guys in ST on TV and some looked good, but some looked like they should be sent back to AA to find out how to throw strikes!
  5. In his ST start they say he was sitting around 93-94 and hit 95 on TV
  6. wouldn't need to trade once he clears waivers he's a FA
  7. Maybe not excited, but he can still play decent outfield, and Garlic really has not been hitting much in ST yet. Just saying, for league minimum salary he could be worth a look.
  8. Another LH bat OF. Can't we find any OF that hit RH that can hit and play defense at a reasonable level?
  9. Rumor has it the Twins (along with a few other teams) are waiting for Upton to clear waivers. Once he clears they are only on the hook for the minimum salary. He could choose which of the interested teams he wishes to join. I would think of him as an upgrade over either Garlick or Rooker.
  10. I agree that the Tw ins could have matched that package. My only conclusion is they didn't want to part with that much for a 1 year "rental" knowing they had Maeda coming back next year and hopefully the prospects ready. Who knows, they may also feel Archer will be good to go now? I don't know, and I'm pretty sure this FO will never let us know why.
  11. I have high hopes for this season, but not really for this particular rotation. I worry the most about Bundy. With that said, I also agree that we need to start getting to some of the pitching pipeline this FO has developed. Covid set us back, and last year it seems that most had arm troubles or were hurt some other way. Its time to s#%t or get off the pot with some of these guys. This is the year we should find out a lot more about them. At least some of them.
  12. The start of a baseball season. So many high hopes, and unanswered questions. Green grass and (hopefully) sunshine. The unofficial start of summer. My favorite time of the year. My wish is that our boys can at least stay competitive this season and at best win the series. There's a lot of room in between that would make this season very enjoyable to watch for me!
  13. I think He can hit better than he did last year. I'm of the opinion that last year was some kind of a fluke the way it started out and snowballed from there for so many guys. 2019 was like a career year for many and karma got us last year. At least thats my story and I'm sticking to it. I hope. There is so much talk about pitch framing, the ABS will negate that soon if all goes as expected.
  14. Yes I do believe Buxton is every bit as good as Trout, EXCEPT, he can't stay healthy. Some is not his fault. He was a bit of a late bloomer, but the last couple years his offense has come around. If he can stay in the lineup for 140-150 games I think he may very well be in the MVP race, and if he hits like he did last year, it may be no contest. Buxton's defense in CF is better than Trouts, so lets just see his bat and health catch up!
  15. If they want to keep Faria on 40 man how about dropping Cotton? I've only seen him pitch once but he wasn't very impressive in that outing.
  16. Although he may be a future #1, I kind of wonder if they are working out a piggyback type of rotation for now and whoever is up behind him is on track to pitch that day also?
  17. The start of every season is full of if's. 162 games, 6+ months is a long time, things happen. I have been a Twins fan since they moved here, (Though I was just a young boy then). I haven't seen a season yet that has gone as expected. That is one the many things I love about baseball. But this time of year we can all be full of hope. Maybe this year is the year. After all, We are in 1st place!
  18. I send down Robertson, Cave, Garlick, Coulombe, Faria, Smeltzer, Romero, and Winder. I would keep Duran over Winder because it seems he is more suited for a relief role at this point and he's a lefty. Winder can build up his arm a bit more in St.Paul for when we need him in the starting rotation, which I'm guessing we will soon enough.
  19. Looks to me like we will get to see quite a few of our young "prospects" this year both starting and relieving unless the FO gets off their butts and finds a real starter or 2.
  20. I would give a grade of C. The only thing that keeps it above a D or F was the Correa signing. They get an F on their trades to begin, but when coupled with the payroll savings to allow the Correa deal I can adjust that to a D. They get a C+ on FA signings which would have been an F w/o Correa deal. The Bundy deal still has me with an incomplete. I think it will be a D at best, but I hope I will be surprised. The gray deal is a C+. The deal with Texas was a D. The deal with NY would have been a D-.
  21. According to the Athletic there never was a true "asking price" given
  22. I can agree about Sanchez. His defense is as advertised, terrible. A couple years back he was a good enough hitter to plug into the DH spot on a fairly regular basis. The last 2 years he looks more like a poor mans version of Sano. K,K, BB,K,FO,HR,K,K.etc
  23. I look for the Tigers to surprise a lot of people this year. If the Twins pitching doesn't work out early and get fixed, they may spend the season chasing them for a wild card.
  24. As I see it, high velo gives a little more room for error. However, if I were the guy making decisions on a major league club, my 1st look would be at WHIP, ERA, and success. Velo would be up there too, but not as high as success.
