  1. I agree that 2020 was a good year for him, but he still is an above average #3 or #4 starter.
  2. I don't think the majority of the owners or the players care at all about public perception anymore, its all about the money. Billionaires and millionaires and other players that make the kind of money that most of us only dream of, playing a game that many of us play or played in the past for fun. Once again the total stupidity on BOTH sides will cost tens of thousands (maybe more) casual fans. The same sport that has been trying to tweek the rules to keep the interest of those very fans. How stupid!
  3. These youngsters can learn a lot from JD. He still is a very good ball player. As the article says last years miserable record can't be pinned on him. I personally would like to see a little more spunk out of some of these guys.
  4. I have to go with Santana. He was One of if not the best starter of his time. Yes he didn't get complete games, but he was dominate while he was in. Not a lot of guys with 2 (should be 3) Cy Youngs out there. It may be interesting to get input on voting from players in the same timeframe as the nominees on the ballet. I would guess an awful lot of hitters would give either one of these 2 pitchers thumbs up!
  5. I guess we need lots of minor league players signed in case the CBA deadlock continues so they can use some non union players to start the season. (Just kidding I hope)
  6. Tori has a bit of a chance IMO. He did play on the coast for a while, and he was extremely popular with the writers. The HR robbing catch of Bonds in the Allstar game also gave him a very big star moment. Not that he actually gets in though I think he deserves too, he could stay on the ballet for a while.
  7. I watched these guys when they first came up before any of the steroid use and they were extremely good even then. I don't know (or condone) why they started using but I imagine it was as they started to age a bit it was a way to "bounce back" after a game. I also imagine they were sold on the idea by smooth talking reps. Yes it was wrong, but it was never proven, neither player ever tested positive. IMO they belong in the hall. After all we all make bad decisions at some point don't we? In the grand scheme of life, is this that bad of a decision if indeed it really did happen?
  8. Couldn't have said it better!
  9. I believe in innocent until proven guilty myself. I wonder how many pitchers are going to be questioned about using a foreign substance to increase the spin rate? I think I heard somewhere that is against the rules.
  10. One person comes to mind right away and that's Jim Kaat. Over the years of hearing his broadcasts I have to say he is the best at breaking down the smaller parts of the game.
  11. I would try Gordon at short before moving Polo. Not just for a few games, but give him 40 to 50 games there so the kid gets settled in. I really don't want to keep jerking Polo around from short to second. He is one of our most important pieces and should be treated as such!
  12. Donaldson was fine. The problem last season was obvious for anyone to see. Pithing, pitching, and more pitching.
  13. Gardy was a throwback guy. Play fundamentally sound and you have a chance. And I always found his interviews entertaining.
  14. I'm a little sketchy on the spin rate factor after the decline we saw with thw crack down on sticky stuff last year. I also agree that a trade for bullpen help would have to wow me if I was GM of this team at this point.
  15. Any bullpen arms will need to have "rubber arms" because they will be used often. We need guys that are able to go more than 1 inning at a time or we need them to have options to be sent up and down. Unless the FO has a surprise up its sleeve we will be having plenty of short starts I believe.
  16. I think keeping Polo at 2nd and not at ss as much as possible is the best thing for the club and for Polo. Arraez is not a very good 2b anyways.
  17. I think he would be a few steps up from Bundy anyway, though I think we can do better through the trade route.
  18. I still think Pineda is the best fit. Last I heard he wanted to stay with the twins, yet I heard nothing about any talks with him before the shutdown. Of the 3 listed above, I could see taking a chance on Odo, depending on his health. He had personal issues in houston from what I've heard and read and that was never something that was talked about here.
  19. 1 thing will fill the stands better than anything and thats winning. We need pitching to win. We can afford to sacrifice some hitting for pitching. Simple calculation says trades will need to be made in order to win, and winning is a must or attendance will drop like a rock.
  20. So sad to lose so many quality people. I remember all of these people, though I didn't know Schilling was ever a member of the Twins. I lived in Az. the year they won the series and the common phrase for their starting staff was "Johnson & Schilling & whoever is willing". A very wise person once told me long ago the older you get the more dead people you know. Unfortunately, that is the truth.
  21. It would take a whopper of a deal for me to trade away Martin at this point. There has only been 1/2 a season to evaluate him at AA ball. As a fan I would like to see what he can do at AAA and then hopefully with the Twins. All the reports say his hit tool is legit. Lets find out.
  22. I think its obvious that this author must have Puck as his #1, though I would have rated Killebrew #1, Carew #2, Puckett #3 myself. Just my opinion. Also note how Carew was so great but never felt the need to swing for the fences. A different era, but more interesting IMHO.
  23. It would probably be fun to watch. If we could shore up the pen a bit it just might even be competitive. Give the young guns some time to learn anyway.
