  1. I agree with points 1 and 2. However point 3 I would look at a package of Arraez and an outfielder for a solid starter to go along with Pineda, Smith and Ober. I would go for a Front line starter in Free agency, and sign a 2nd tier shortstop in free agency. Unfortunately, due to money probably getting low at this point, I am probably forced to keep Colome and work him into the bullpen equation. Unless something else opens or the owners can open the pockets a little more I dont see another way around it.
  2. Thats very interesting. I can see where that could be an advantage Twins. Thanks!
  3. I think you keep JD unless an offer that really wows you comes along. I would explore trades involving Arraez as I think there would be better chances of getting more advanced pitching prospects. He is younger and cheaper.
  4. Lets not forget that pesky CBA that will probably give most if not all teams at least slight pause in negotiations with free agents.
  5. If the Twins were a playoff team as they ere supposed to be this year people would probably be saying he had a good year.
  6. I keep reading how people are worried about hitting for power. If the kid can hit .270 or so and run and play above avg. defense I don't care if he can't hit for power.
  7. I don't see the the Twins signing any of the above. However, there are several in the "step below" class that may be available on a 1 or 2 year deal. Or maybe the team that does decide to make the big splash and sign these guys would make a trade for the incumbent SS. Lots of possibilities when so many good players at the same position are free agents the same year. Of course, we still don't know what the new CBA will look like either. Lots of questions.
  8. I'll add #5. Buxton and the Twins agree on a new contract.
  9. Polo is a key part of this team moving forward.
  10. Fave #1 opening day, fave #2 last pitch of last game.
  11. I never will understand all the fuss over that homerun.
  12. Nice article, and I totally agree with you. With the number of pitchers that have quality history behind them that would probably accept a short term "prove it" contract there should be an opportunity to get a decent 2 or 3 starter. Maybe sign a big quality FA starter, and trade for another? Then get someone who can serve as a decent closer and hopefully have enough money left over for Nellie. His overall stats with Tampa were down enough to maybe bring the asking price down a little to work it out.

    Jorge Polanco and The Twins

The only way I see the Twins trading Polo is if they get an established MLB starter AND a top prospect. Polo is that valuable. With his talent, history, and contract, he should pull in a heck of a sure deal plus a pretty good bet on a prospect.
  14. I'm thinking there is a whole lot more than we know that went into this decision.
  15. A strong pen can make an average starting staff look a lot better.
  16. I give him a D+. At the halfway point it would have been D-. I do think he had to learn to lead more than he has in the past when Cruz and Berrios got traded. I don't blame the lost season solely on him, but I feel he contributed to the beginning of the downfall. I don't really know how much freedom he has to call the shots or if the FO has a big influence there. I agree with others his management of the pitching is what drags his grade down a lot. I assume he stays for another year and hopefully will learn from this year. After all, baseball is a game of failure. Even a good hitter fails 2 out of 3 times. But you learn from that. Rocco is smart. Let him learn.

    Grading Falvey and CO

I went with the B grade over the course of the entire time they have run the show, not just this year.

  19. I hope you're wrong about yankees rays series. I would love to see Crux have a chance for the ring and I hate the yankees
  20. Good job all season on these recaps. I hate to see them end, although I have to admit I'm glad to see this train wreck of a season end.

    Grading Falvey and CO

I give FO office a solid B over all. Coming into this season it would have been higher, but this year has exposed some flaws. Rocco didn't really have control of the clubhouse IMO and really didn't need to with a few of the veterans like Cruz, Donaldson, even Berrios around but now he will have to step up and I question if he will. I do think he improved some over the last month so I'll give credit where its due. The FO whiffed on Happ and Shoemaker, but all FO's will miss at times, unfortunately, both of these where at the same time to magnify the mistake. The FO made a couple of nice looking trades (at least at this time) to help for the future. I see hope for next season. Sign a couple good starters, solidify the pen, sign a ss, and I see a pretty good team. Looking at the past body of work from this FO I see no reason to doubt that they can get the job done!
  22. I think a 1 year with a mutual 2nd year option would be fair for both sides depending on cost.
  23. From report before the trade deadline they had agreed on the base and couldn't agree on incentives. Time to get to work on a deal guys, you got 5 months or so to come to an agreement.
