    THE FALVEY FILE

funny read lets just hope its way off base and not as close to reality as it may seem.
  3. I agree that the owners are ruining the game, but the players need to accept some responsibility too. Also, I agree with universal DH, just do away with the new extra inning rule, quit messing with the baseball, and I think the game was better when we had AL and NL exclusive umps. Maybe because the batteries could get to know them better and vice versa, but it seemed to me that the game took a turn for the worse when they changed that rule.
  4. I read somewhere (I don't remember where) They wanted to go after Corria? Don't know how much stock to put in it.
  5. Or Sano or Donaldson
  6. I don't know if he ever gets in but one thing he does have going for him is that he was an extremely popular and likeable person and player everywhere he went.
  7. OK I was in upper management for many years. One thing I saw was that new managers would rely to heavy on their assistants early on, sometimes to the point that I would have to move their assistants to another location to make a decision on the new managers ability to lead. I think I see a similar situation here with the Twins. Rocco came in with an established veteran team with a couple of guys (one in particular) in the clubhouse that could kind of act as his assistants. Last season he lost his bench coach, his #1 assistant, and kind of had to navigate things as he went with a new assistant. Then when he lost Cruz and Berrios he lost 2 more "assistants" that helped steer the ship. However, I was encouraged by the way he responded after the trade deadline and seemed tp step up and take more control. Though I don't always agree with his decisions I'm not his boss, if the FO doesn't agree then its up to them to communicate to him what they expect him to change in his management of the game and the players.
  8. Due to the high injury risk maybe we could work out a package deal and get Severino and their ss for Kepler and a low prospect. I'm pretty sure NY will sign one of the top ss FA so why not try? If we're going to kind of make up dream situations why not?
  9. Great job! Nice to see some of these names.
  10. Though I can't give an answer to that, my point is to sacrifice hitting (and some salary) for pitching we could make the move. Risks are part of the game. In this case I see a very acceptable risk IMO.
  11. Miranda could fill in at all 3 of those positions so I would call that duplicate
  12. Probably a good move. Would have been a no brainer for another team to pick up and stash.
  13. Has there been anyone saying what he wants as far as salary? As others have said, that is a major question to be asked and answered before really forming an opinion either way. Of course the Twins would want him, they would want pretty much any number of FA's out there. However, there is that little problem that keeps coming up, salary. This isn't the Yankees who can just toss out a couple million bucks. Sure would be nice to see MLB come up with some type of salary cap (and floor) system wouldn't it?
  14. I think I'd rather see Gordon out there than Cave .LOL. There are so many other outfielders that are able to be 4th and can play CF that are sitting on benches or in the minors I still don't see the need to sign Cave at this point. Its not like a bunch of other teams are chomping at the bit waiting to sign him.
  15. I wonder if he would sign a minor league contract with a major league invite?
  16. I don't really agree with you on that. I truly want the Twins to re-sign him, however, if he has a good to great start to the seaso he good bring a real haul at or around the deadline. Just look what Cruz brought back.
  17. Tolerance? For years we were told they needed a better stadium so they could raise more revenue to compete. They finally got their stadium. Now its time to be compete and they can fill that stadium. If they need more revenue maybe they should push some of the east and west coast greedy uber rich teams that seem to be able to throw money around for a bigger piece of the pie!
  18. Another option to consider? There are all these high priced free agent ss that are going to replace other ss starters (at least a few) so why not wait and pick from the "low hanging fruit" as they say, in a trade. Probably could pick up an established player at a lower "cost".
  19. If they trade Buxton during the off season I say go for it.
  20. I guess you don't remember what it eas like when Calvin owned the team
  21. I don't know how high the price would be for Gallen but he is an interesting trade target. As far as the end of your blog goes, I don't think we have to suffer through a few "bad" years before we compete again. I also don't think we need to go nuts signing a bunch of expensive FA pitchers to compete. I've said here before, sign Pineda and sign and for 2 more in the same "class and range" as him, pick up 1 or 2 bullpen arms with experience, not expensive closers, Sign or trade for a defensive ss that can hit enough to stay above the mendoza line, and this team will be competitive. Rough estimate 3 starters x 9mil=27 mil + 2 pen x 5mil=10 mil + 6mil ss=43mil. That may actually be a bit high as I think going the trade route with 1 or 2 of those 6 positions would save $.
  22. I personally wouldn't trade Larnach for 1 year of Bassitt. Its not like He is going to be the 1 piece that puts us over the top into the series. Larnach should have many years of good to very good play ahead of him. If the FO feels Bassitt is enough of an asset to risk a player rated that high then they should make sure Bassitt is willing to negotiate an extension before agreeing to the deal.
  23. I could go with Stroman on a 4-5 year deal, re-sign Pineda for 2 years, package a trade for a good young starter and hope that our youngsters can carry the rest of the burden.
  24. As I remember with Lynn he signed very late and had hardly any pre season.
