    Probably a good move. Would have been a no brainer for another team to pick up and stash.

    Has there been anyone saying what he wants as far as salary? As others have said, that is a major question to be asked and answered before really forming an opinion either way. Of course the Twins would want him, they would want pretty much any number of FA's out there. However, there is that little problem that keeps coming up, salary. This isn't the Yankees who can just toss out a couple million bucks. Sure would be nice to see MLB come up with some type of salary cap (and floor) system wouldn't it?

    I think I'd rather see Gordon out there than Cave .LOL. There are so many other outfielders that are able to be 4th and can play CF that are sitting on benches or in the minors I still don't see the need to sign Cave at this point. Its not like a bunch of other teams are chomping at the bit waiting to sign him.

    I don't really agree with you on that. I truly want the Twins to re-sign him, however, if he has a good to great start to the seaso he good bring a real haul at or around the deadline. Just look what Cruz brought back.

    Tolerance? For years we were told they needed a better stadium so they could raise more revenue to compete. They finally got their stadium. Now its time to be compete and they can fill that stadium. If they need more revenue maybe they should push some of the east and west coast greedy uber rich teams that seem to be able to throw money around for a bigger piece of the pie!

    Another option to consider? There are all these high priced free agent ss that are going to replace other ss starters (at least a few) so why not wait and pick from the "low hanging fruit" as they say, in a trade. Probably could pick up an established player at a lower "cost".

    I don't know how high the price would be for Gallen but he is an interesting trade target. As far as the end of your blog goes, I don't think we have to suffer through a few "bad" years before we compete again. I also don't think we need to go nuts signing a bunch of expensive FA pitchers to compete. I've said here before, sign Pineda and sign and for 2 more in the same "class and range" as him, pick up 1 or 2 bullpen arms with experience, not expensive closers, Sign or trade for a defensive ss that can hit enough to stay above the mendoza line, and this team will be competitive. Rough estimate 3 starters x 9mil=27 mil + 2 pen x 5mil=10 mil + 6mil ss=43mil. That may actually be a bit high as I think going the trade route with 1 or 2 of those 6 positions would save $.

    I personally wouldn't trade Larnach for 1 year of Bassitt. Its not like He is going to be the 1 piece that puts us over the top into the series. Larnach should have many years of good to very good play ahead of him. If the FO feels Bassitt is enough of an asset to risk a player rated that high then they should make sure Bassitt is willing to negotiate an extension before agreeing to the deal.

    I could go with Stroman on a 4-5 year deal, re-sign Pineda for 2 years, package a trade for a good young starter and hope that our youngsters can carry the rest of the burden.

    As I remember with Lynn he signed very late and had hardly any pre season.

    We also have some duplicate infield assets such as Arraez, Donaldson, & Sano if we make room for a certain infielder that tore up AA & AAA (Miranda)

    Millionaires vs billionaires. Both sides more concerned about winning than about what's good for the game and the fan. They both seem to forget, without us, the fans, they have nothing.

    Fill the rotation with #2's and #3's with a solid pen and this team WILL compete.

    I agree that one of the two could be flipped but I would hesitate flipping both unless the return was just too good to turn away from, and I don't see that happening. I could see Jeffers traded with someone else for an established starter, or alone for a ready to go prospect.

    I can only imagine that managing a bunch of "stars" would be extremely tough, probably harder than a few stars and the rest role players. I don't know anything about Tingler or about the situation in San Diego, but somebody with managerial experience to take some of the load off Rocco should be seen as a plus. I was told by a very wise man a long time ago if you don't make mistakes you can't learn. I choose to hope that's the case here for the entire team from the front office down to the bat boys.

    I think they both belong in the HOF. Oliva was one of the most feared hitters to face and were his career not cut short by a brutal injury probably would have been a shoe-in with the numbers he was on track for. Kaat was not only great on the field but was (and still is) a great example of what a major league ball player should be and act like. Total class.

    Kind of fun to do the "what if" thing. Too bad reality and greed sets in at contract time.

    If Cobb is the best we get I'm afraid it will be another long lost season. I agree we will need to trade for a frontline pitcher, but I also think we should be able to sign a good (maybe not top) starter. Add in Pineda (I hope) and the 2 kids to make 5. Add a closer to the pen and I think this team can contend.

    If the Twins are going to spend the big bucks on pitching and end up stretched on payroll they could do worse than Simmons. He isn't my choice #1 or #2 but sometimes you take what you can afford, and we could do worse.

    Tough to get amped up about this team after such a terrible season, so thanks for some positive info! Great article!

    Garver is a solid #1 catcher and should be kept. Jeffers and Rortvedt have to show they can hit in the bigs consistently.
