  1. I don't really see any of the 3 plugging our biggest hole which IMO is the bullpen. When healthy we have Gray, Ryan, Ober, Archer, Smeltzer & or Bundy to start games. Certainly not tops in the league but not nearly as bad as our pen. Jax, Duran, Maybe Pagan. That leaves a lot of question marks and innings to cover IMHO.
  2. IMO Twins say yes, Pads want someone younger like AK or maybe Larnach.
  3. You got that right. We need relievers. If we could get 2 "B" quality relievers that would greatly improve our chances, and cost a lot less!
  4. not a fan of arraez at 3rd but would like to see a long term contract worked out to keep Correa and Urshela. Next option maybe Martin or Steer?
  5. I have to disagree with you about a little bit. Larnach has shown he's a pretty good OF and he hits. Miranda has been one of the better hitters (avg wise) over the last 10 days or so and appears to really be getting going. 2 weeks ago I would have swapped him with AK but as of now I'm not so sure. Arraez seems to have taken off like a rocket since they have given him more of a steady position and IMO his success probably shouldn't be messed with. At some point an OF WILL go down and that will be AK,s chance to shine IMHO. Also the trade time isn't far away and who knows what pieces will hopefully get moved off the board in favor of some pitching.
  6. What about Miranda who's hitting around .350 over the last week and a half or so. You going to sit him? Or you want to take away the defense of Urshala at 3B? I agree that it would be nice to see if AK can hit up here again, but who do you sacrifice to try? Kepler? Celestino? Larnach? Arraez? I don't know. What would your idea be?
  7. Great article! Hit the nail on the head. This team needs relief pitching, and needs it badly. Take away Jax and Duran and there isn't much left. 2 quality relievers at the very least are needed!
  8. I agree with you. Yesterday was a planned short start for Gray since he was just coming off the IL from the Pec injury, so I do understand taking it easy with his 1st start back. However, when they keep taking guys out that are pitching well just because its the 3rd time through the order it blows my mind! Leave them in until they show signs of tiring! If you are so worried about it start warming your pen so you can have a quick hook! I remember when the rotation was 4 starters and they would pitch 300+ innings. Now its 5 or 6 and they can't even go 200? With the advances in conditioning and fitness? Seems like something is wrong IMHO.
  9. I really don't see why the Twins would have much interest in Mancini. Contraras or Castillo are interesting but I'm sure it will all depend on asking prices.
  10. It just doesn't seem to me that he looks like he's really completely got his legs healthy yet. He seems to be hesitant to turn on the jets like we have seen in the past. Anyone else notice this? I haven't heard if he is still having "lower body" issues, or have I missed it?
  11. Soto was called up because Polo is dealing with a bad back and Gordon has a Hamstring? pull so the Twins are a little short on infielders. They are certainly not going to shorten their bullpen until they have to.
  12. I guess if you want to look for negatives you can say lack of speed or power. The base steeling will probably never be there, but he will pop a HR once in a while. Power is not his game though. His game as a top of the order guy is to get on base and let the guys behind him bring him home, which he seems to be doing at an excellent level. On top of that, look how many pitches he usually makes the guys throw. In todays era of pitch counts that is a factor that only increases his value!
  13. I think once the auto strike zone is implemented maybe the catchers can get off their knee and get back into a squat position, it will help with throwing out runners. Lets hope so anyway, because with the expanded size of the bases and the possible relocation of 2nd base it could become a regular track meet out there.
  14. Sign Correa, Polacios is option 2 until Lewis returns.
  15. Sands pitched well enough in the 1st couple innings to make me wonder if he would fit as a long reliever?
  16. But they could at least give info like infield in or back, or if someone is warming up in the pen etc..
  17. They have the hitting and defense, but without at least 1 more decent starter and a couple of decent relievers they are not a serious WS contender. The 87 Twins had a decent to good bullpen, and a good offence and defence.
  18. IMO the play by play was below avg. Too much yac yac yac and not enough real game info.
  19. That's not what I meant. I was simply saying that Archer does not make the decision when to come out of the games. As far as last night goes, yes I would have left him in until he started to get into the slightest bit of trouble(like one guy on base) I would have had Jax warmed up and ready when he did. Who knows, maybe he could have got another inning, or maybe the next hitter would have gotten on. IMHO its worth taking a chance to try and save this bullpen.
  20. Here's an idea, How about using a few of the prospects that we are probably going to lose in the rule 5 draft next year in trades to get a couple of relievers that are reliable.
  21. Bundy=Shoemaker. Same as last season. Bundy with Angels started the season good but fizzled out by mid season. Shoemaker started season looking OK but as we know that was a mirage.
