All Star Changes Open Letter to Rob Manfred
Karbo commented on Doc Munson's blog entry in Fantasy GM
Cool ideas. Would love to see something like the HR challenge for prostate cancer done at the HR derby. People could pledge X amt. per HR hit maybe even pick which player(s). -
3 Controllable Relievers to Target in Trade
Karbo replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Face it, the twins are going to loose some "pipeline" prospects in any type of trade for a desirable pitcher. The question I ask is; How good of prospect(s) for what quality/quantity return. The only other choice they have (if they intend to win this year) is to take these prospects and put them in the pen to get their work in up here. Not an optimal situation either way. Like I've said in previous posts IMO look at the guys that will need to be protected for the rule 5 draft and start thinning the herd a bit so we don't lose someone with real potential for nothing! -
Now that Arraez has shown a knack for decent defense at 1B we are pretty stacked there and at DH. Would be nice if Sano tears the cover off the ball and makes a tough decision. It wasn't that long ago when he came up and looked like a potential .280 hitter with unbelievable power. That guy would be welcomed back.

I think we are probably looking at loosing a few good prospects to the rule 5 draft this winter, so why not use a few of them in trades for areas of need? Pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

Though I agree he seems to be selling out to hit HR's I don't think it's fair to compare him to the Sano of late. Yes he is striking out at a high rate but at least when he draws a walk regardless if he steals or not, he's a threat on the bases. IMO I can live with a lower avg. when he plays in the field, after all he makes so much of a difference out there. Yes it would sure be nice to see him out there more often, but if he has a bad knee I give him credit for playing thru it. Just look at the w-L record with or without him in the lineup. He makes a difference. If I'm the manager I let him play whenever he can!

Who is Part of the Twins' Long-Term Core Four?
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As of today I would list Buxton, Polanco, Arraez, Kepler. The others just haven't been here long enough to establish themselves as "core" pieces IMHO.- 84 replies

Mill1634's Trade Deadline Blueprint: Going for It
Karbo commented on Mill1634's blog entry in Milldaddy35's Blog Area
I say a pretty good job. I do question why you don't think Ober would do well in the pen though. IMO he would be similar and maybe even a bit better than Jax there. -
The Five Best Hitting Trade Targets for the Twins
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What we need is at least 2 good bullpen arms. 2 setup guys that we can trust in the 8th inning and once in a while the 9th to close.- 31 replies

Emilio Pagán Doesn't Need to Be the Next Alex Colomé
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you're missing my point. I'm certainly not saying our rotation is "top shelf" , [though with the exception of Bundy I have more confidence in them than most of our relievers,] What I'm saying is that if a starter has his "stuff" working and is pitching well, let him try to get through the lineup the 3rd time. A reliever can be warmed up and ready if needed. Also, as far as our top relievers go, in all reality, that would be only Duran. Jax stats would make him a decent setup man. So as we can both agree that we need at least 2 more good arms in the pen, until then, IMO let the starters go IF they are pitching well regardless of how many times through the lineup they are. -
Emilio Pagán Doesn't Need to Be the Next Alex Colomé
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really wonder how much of the bullpen as a whole are having these problems due to being over worked. The starters need to go deeper into games, period. If they are still effective and facing the lineup for the 3rd time let them go! If they are showing signs of tiring pull them then, not just because some spread sheet says so! How are you ever going to prove them wrong if you don't get a chance? Pulling a healthy starter after 60-70 pitches when they seem to be in control just puts more of a burden on the weakest part of the staff, the pen! -
Nick Gordon Is Quietly Filling the Royce Lewis Void
Karbo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Gordon, but I think with his speed he should be able to steal a few bases ,yet he is 3/6 on his attempts so far. Maybe the Twins need a base stealing coach. Also, most the teams are over shifting him to the right side. If he could learn to bunt once in a while he could probably raise his avg. by several points. -
IMO warm the pen and let him go until he gets in any kind of trouble. Save the pen if you can.

All I'm saying is that's poor planning on the part of our management team. The same team that keeps saying they have a plan. As it turns out they probably knew Archer was a no go but even at that IMO they could have possibly saved an inning or two from the pen which as we all know has been drastically over worked due to so many short starts.

So tomorrow you know you will need at least 4 innings out of your pen. You don't think when Bundy is pitching as well as he was it might be a good idea to at least try to get another inning or two out of him rather than burning the availability of your reliable relievers on a maybe tonight?

I can't figure that one out either. Knowing He is going to give Archer a quick hook the next night Rocco piles on an extra inning or so that may have been avoided. This is a paper thin pen as it is, and Rocco just keeps pushing it. I wonder what this pen would look like if they had a manager that knew how to properly manage it?

Twins' Bullpen Needs Some Fresh Faces
Karbo replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think we add Ober to the pen when he is back. Help ease him in and i've always felt he would make a better reliever anyways. If Archer can't start going longer it may be time to look at him in the pen and put Winder in the rotation, or if Bundy flames out (as many of us fear he will) let Winder take his place. Winder for sure is a better pitcher than half the guys in the pen now. I too see no reason not to try some of the young starters on the farm in relief roles. Can they really do much worse than what we are seeing now?- 33 replies

I would move Ober into the pen. I think he could be a very good setup guy to go along with Jax. If the Twins are going to go with a 6 man rotation I would rather see Winder get a shot as a starter. I think he has a better chance at going deeper right now than Ober. I also feel they are going to have to loosen the rope a little on Archer. It just doesn't make sense to me to keep him in the rotation if all we get is 4-5 innings per start. That is just wearing down a thin bullpen that much more!

Matt's Top Prospect List (June) + Explanations
Karbo commented on Matt Braun's blog entry in 80MPH Changeup
If Balazovic is hurting why is he still active? This team has such a history of being protective with there prospects especially pitchers, it surprises me that they are letting him play.- 12 comments

Balazovic is looking like a lost cause at AAA. Sure doesn't look like he should be rated high at all.

Guardians 5, Twins 3: We've Seen This Ending Before
Karbo replied to David Youngs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are 2 problems as I see it. #1- We need to get the starters to go more than 5 innings or get other starters. Obviously yesterday pulling Archer was the right call but in general I see to many times starters getting pulled at 80 pitches. If you can get an extra few outs from the starter take them. #2- As has been well documented there is only 1 truly reliable arm (Duran) and 1 fairly reliable arm (Jax).Hey FO, you totally blew it this spring! WTH were you smoking up there? Did you really think signing Smith would fix all the bullpen? If the Twins didn't play in a weak division I don't think there would be much playoff talk IMHO.- 103 replies

I agree with you 100%. This team doesn't play as fundamentally sound as the teams of a few years ago. Think about T.K. or Gardy and how much they stressed the fundamentals of the game. Ever since 2019 the Bomba year it seems like this team has gone away from playing any kind of "small" ball that stresses fundamentals, like bunting, Hit an runs, steals, and some of the defensive "mental" mistakes probably give the other team a little chuckle. And please Rocco, send Pagan on vacation or something when we play Cleveland. They sure have his number!

I really know nothing about how the SDI is calculated, but it sure doesn't agree with the "eye test". Correa has looked very good to me and Urshela had looked better defensively to me than Arraez did last year.

Goodbye, Wes Johnson - A Twins Blog
Karbo commented on Axel Kohagen's blog entry in Blog Axel Kohagen
Johnson will be missed for sure. I hope the guy replacing him has picked up some of his wisdom and ideas with the pitchers. From what I've read quite a bit of Johnsons success was his attitude and personality. That just can't be replaced.
