    I would wait until the end of this season and evaluate the whole scene then. As several have pointed out we have many young guns that are coming up through the system. Which seems to me would be good trade chips for some help now. How many of these youngsters are going to have to be exposed to the rule 5 draft this winter? I'd be looking at that now and thinking about some trades for at the very least some bullen help. Another quality starter would sure be nice.

    That's the way it is supposed to work. But I question, if a college can spend that much on 1 assistant coaching position (yes I call a pitching coach an assistant) Perhaps they could spread that money around better be for tuition or maybe into other sports or womens sports etc..

    My brother and I did the same thing. Made us pretty good switch hitters too! I agree with you about the bomba days being long gone, but the mindset seems to still be there. Homeruns are sexy. Gets you on Sportscenter I guess. This management team doesn't seem to stress fundamentals like bunting and stealing and baserunning like past management teams have. Maybe they need a longer spring training? Or maybe different Coaching? The game is changing and the teams that are winners will make the adjustments to the game.

    He's pitched well this season. I could see him in the rotation. I could see a possibility of putting Ober in the pen (where I thought he had the best chance of success when he 1st came up) where I think he could be a shutdown type of reliever, at least for the rest of this year.

    I don't like the way they are baby caring for Archer, but I have to admit it seems to be working. A question I have to ask though is, do the games in Sept. count more than the games in June and July? I keep hearing thats why they are keeping his innings down, but what happens if they start falling behind Cleveland or Chicago before September? With this bullpen it seems like an extra inning could make a big difference. Would it harm Archer at this point to expand his pitch count from say 75 to 90? I hope that decision is up to the Trainers and Docs, not Rocco.

    Yes Houston has a manager that knows what he's doing, and players that know whats expected of them.

    The simple solution is to stop using Sanchez and his ;ow 200's avg as a DH. Rotate between Miranda, Urshela, Arraez, AK, Larnach, and Kepler. Theres plenty of AB's to be had and a way to get some guys a day off their feet here and there.

    Did they already change the size of the bases in AA? The Twins are in big trouble when they do with the catchers and the way they have them set up on 1 knee to try to "steel" the low strike. And if they do reconfigure 2nd base it could turn into a track meet.

    Rocco has that record based on a couple of seasons of "bomba" ball. I don't think the guy can actually manage, just play odds that are spit out of a computer on spread sheet. Now the ball has changed, the game has changed, other teams are running more and starting to play more small ball, but that's not on Rocco's spread sheet yet. On the few occasions we have seen the Twins bunt it has been the players doing it on their own according to reports.

    The St.Paul shuttle hasn't been working out very well so far. Its time to go outside the organization looking for help. There was an article quite a while back that talked about how many of our "great" prospects were going to be at risk nest year in the rule 5 draft. Lets get pro-active and decide who to keep and start trading others for bullpen arms NOW! If we wait much longer we will be chasing the rest of the season and IMO this team wont do well as a chase team.

    Amen to that. There has to be an ability to manage with your "gut" at times, and either Rocco is afraid to or just doesn't have that feel.

    True, but the guy was just off the IL. probably didn't have his timing back just yet, and what are the odds that he can execute that many quality sliders in a row? Reyes is also known to chase on high heat so why not try that? Rather see a BB than a HR.

    We were facing a pitcher with an ERA in the 7's and he goes off a spread sheet that says this pitcher does better against lefty's so he sits lefty's and as DH bats a guy (Sanchez) hitting in the low 200's at DH because he hits RH, when even then he could of hit another guy thet has been hitting in the 300's for the last couple weeks (Miranda)? You got a pitcher with those numbers IMO you play your game noy play to his game. Who knows if there would have been a difference but it sure seems to be a stupid way to make out a lineup. I do agree with you about the pen. I have been saying on here since the end of April we need at least 2 more bullpen arms!

    Rocco manages off a spread sheet. I don't think he can manage using his "gut instincts" the way a guy like Francona does. Until Rocco can incorporate a "feel for the game" in with those spread sheets and game plans he and the powers that be come up with this team will probably be what we see. A talented yet underperforming team.

    That's the question I was asking. Why didn't Jeffers go out and talk him into trying something else? Or is this another case of sticking with the "plan"? Or maybe Pagan felt he couldn't get control of anything else? I for one would sure like to know.

    I guess it just goes to show that throwing snow balls can develop a guy into a good ballplayer LOL

    I have to say we need the ABS system sooner rather than later. I have been an avid baseball fan since the 60's. The biggest change I've noticed in the way the Umps are calling balls and strikes in the last few years is consistency. It used to be This Ump would give a pitcher a little more outside, that Ump would give him a little more inside, another Ump may call a high strike, but it would remain the same through the entire game for all the pitchers. Now it seems they start one way and a couple innings later they change to another, and this hitter gets the call or that pitcher gets the call. The blown calls are so common and seem to me to be getting more and more flagrant as time goes on that the ABS will be good for the game, something I never thought I would say a few years a go.

    I can see trading Urshala or Kepler,but what are you going to get for Sano? Trading Correa would be a sign of giving up IMO.

    Right now I don't see Kendricks being an upgrade over anyone but Bundy the way he has pitched so far. I haven't seen Marques yet. Just my opinion.

    I don't really see any of the 3 plugging our biggest hole which IMO is the bullpen. When healthy we have Gray, Ryan, Ober, Archer, Smeltzer & or Bundy to start games. Certainly not tops in the league but not nearly as bad as our pen. Jax, Duran, Maybe Pagan. That leaves a lot of question marks and innings to cover IMHO.

    IMO Twins say yes, Pads want someone younger like AK or maybe Larnach.

    You got that right. We need relievers. If we could get 2 "B" quality relievers that would greatly improve our chances, and cost a lot less!
