  1. The bottom end of the bullpen earned their dough today. That's huge heading to Tampa with a rested Smith and Duran.
  2. Joe Ryan appears to be appointment viewing. Detroit was the team that got to him last year, so it's good to see that he got them back. Good win!
  3. My bad on the Ks. I must have misheard 19 Ks out of 52 trips to the plate in the broadcast and just rounded it to 40%. Perhaps, I was Gladdened.
  4. Let's not. Maybe at .196, but not at .096 with 40% Ks and poor D. The deep dive into the stats is equivalent to turd polishing. Any bad luck being associated with xStat (shoulda, coulda, woulda) was all evened out yesterday with all the blind squirrelling.
  5. Doth saith Lugh, god of the artisans: "Emilio, my son. Thou must hurl the rock and trust my guidance, even whilst witnessing the thunderous blow returned unto thee. Thine enemies will be defeated as I will suck the wisdom from them, even whilst those surrounding thee appear to drown in ignorance."
  6. Maybe the ownership shouldn't get into public arguments with the players over money that results in uncertainty and a delayed season. Maybe the ownership should make it easy and affordable to watch the games without circumventing blackout policies. Maybe the ownership should consider offering more than disgusting Bud Light at less than $13 a beer. Maybe the ownership should consider working better with Metro Transit to make sure green and blue LRT cars are available at reasonable intervals after night games. You can give me free tickets, and I still won't go this year.
  7. Thanks, I'm happy to help myself and others spend as little money as possible watching baseball. If Twins Daily ever wanted some posts on "How to ...." (Nevermind)
  8. This looks to be a classic case of taking an opportunity to buy low. It takes risk to see reward, and the Twins need to win some of these to make up ground on the free-spending big guns. It's a great trade looking through the long term lens. I wish Rogers the best in San Diego. He was a great player for the Twins, but the page has turned. He'll get to play against his brother more often, so that should be a bonus for him.
  9. Ryan is starting because he came into camp more prepared and ready to be stretched out than the rest of the starting staff. He's been able to ramp up at a more advanced pace. It's a vote of confidence that he earned, but it's also a result of the abbreviated ST. Regardless, I'll be surprised if he's sent out for the 5th inning. Some fun facts about those other two rookie OD starters: Steve Busby was matched up against a different Ryan - HOFer Nolan Ryan. Busby went 4.1 innings. Ryan pitched a complete game and struck out 12. Jose Guzman was matched up against perennial Blue Jays ace Dave Stieb. In this one, Stieb was the one who only went 4.1 innings, while Guzman went 8 innings and picked up the win.
  10. Northfield's Jake Petricka signed to the minors. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/twins-sign-jake-petricka-minor-league-deal.html If he somehow makes it up to the Twins, they'll have two Northfield natives. Would be cool for a town of 21K to have to big leaugers on the hometown team.
  11. At this point, Winder is stretched out more. Archer won't be ready to be much more than an opener in 9 days. I think we're about to see out-getter April. Zero quality starts in the first month is a real possibility. Hopefully, that 28-man roster helps that not become a disaster.
  12. I hope I'm wrong, but Archer does nothing for me. TOS is such a career killer that the odds seem pretty stacked against success here. If Winder needs a few starts in St. Paul, so be it. I'd guess Archer will go the way of Shoemaker in 2021.
  13. I'm not against getting another arm in the rotation, but I won't consider it a disappointment if it's Winder. After all, the team has 6 years of control, and he doesn't cost any prospects. His salary will also be easy to work into the payroll. Who knows? Maybe it will be both and a six-man rotation.
  14. Winder looks like a guy built to eat innings. I'd bet that he's added a few good pounds to the listed 210 on that 6'5" frame. Hope he isn't one that gets moved in a deal. I was impressed watching him today on the Free Game.
  15. MiLB track record looks pretty good on Romero. Hopefully, he was a victim of numbers and can add some value in the pen. As far as Dobber goes ....
  16. My glass is still half empty, but I'll echo that it's a good analysis. It's not quite ice to tundra-dwelling first nation folks, but you might have to sell Chi Chi Gonzalez to us next.
  17. This just doesn't make sense. If "who" would have had their way? The FO? They along with Buxton's agent came up with the creative, incentive-laden deal that gave him generational wealth along with good chances to have uber-generational wealth if he stays on the field. Pohlad? Everything I heard was that JP was fully on board the whole time. The same FO also signed Donaldson for $92 mill. At the time, the Twins were coming off 2019, and that was a win now move. It didn't work out due to Covid, calf muscles, Colome, Happ, Shoemaker, Buxton injuries, Maeda's elbow, Simmons' ghost showing up in the batter's box and several other minor regressions and misfortunes. I think there's something to them being risk averse on long pitcher contracts above a certain dollar amount. Look no further than Yu Darvish (one the Twins were rumored to be after) to see why.
  18. I bet he tasted malt vinegar on fries for the first time, loved it and never wants to leave. The $131m was a bonus.
  19. Twins of the Pirates - Walk the plank, we need more "payroll flexibility".
  20. This is a good trade. The Twins need starting pitching, and they'll take two years of control for 24 million and a first round high school pitcher. They're 1 for 10 all-time as far as getting big league production from a first round high school pitcher (although Todd Ritchie had some years for Pittsburgh), so I'll take the Gray/Peguero side of the bet all day and twice on Sundays.
  21. Both sides can pound sand. Target Field is off the destination list for 2022. Gophers started up yesterday* @$10 a ticket. Northwoods League tickets will probably be about the same later this spring. Saints tickets will likely be the only more costly option. My methods for consuming MLB games will only be of the zero monetary cost to me variety. *Edit - They started playing up north yesterday.
  22. Not only would it be selling low, it would create a massive defensive hole. I also think they should wait until the deadline if the season goes south (if it happens). Along with giving Kepler a chance to rebound, it gives someone like Martin a longer chance to get ready for the big leagues or someone like Larnach or Kirilloff to show they have improved defensively (and offensively, as far as Larnach is concerned). I doubt Kepler fetches a rotation cog at this point.
