  1. My glass will never be as half-full as yours, but I won't say that I can't see it. The health of his knees really needs a lot of hoping, finger-crossing and possibly some small animal sacrifices. Arraez' name should be pre-printed at the top of the lineup cards, IMO, but his manager doesn't see it that way.
  2. This might all be fine on paper, but the Twins will have a tough time finding vets to fill spots when needed, if they're treated in this fashion. I do think Simmons' playing time should be reduced though.
  3. Kudos to Jax for not imploding when the D (including his own gaffes) didn't come through on several occasions. Also, kudos to Rocco (oh my god, I'm complementing him) for letting Jax work through all the messes. This part of this season is perfect for that type of development. And, hey, Polanco came through and the Twins won anyway! I agree. He seems to be going through the motions. I don't have a lot of faith in Polanco or Gordon at SS full-time, but they can still get reps to be able to hold their own as backups at the spot going forward.
  4. He has been dealing the last several starts, just not the same stuff. ?
  5. I think for the rest of the week, they have to call him Captain.
  6. "Baseball is a business and as a business that may be getting rid of the DH this was a great trade." It's actually more likely that the opposite is happening, and the DH will be expanded. However, Cruz had an expiring contract, so it was a good trade.
  7. It isn't much healthier now. Here's a link to the Twins Top 10 going into this season: https://www.mlb.com/prospects/2020/twins/ They're all hurt or ranging from floundering to inconsistent at best at their current level. Now Kirilloff, Balazovic and Javier are from the last FO, but the other seven are their guys.
  8. Matt Wallner will fit right into that trend. He looked really bad in RF in Cedar Rapids on Friday. I wish Keirsey could hit, because he looked the like real deal out in CF.
  9. Thanks for the write up. I hope Varland can keep it up. I like to see a riser, but you have to be careful expecting too much early. He certainly seems to have the stuff to be a mid-high leverage reliever at the top level. Vallimont will have to be protected, so that will be an interesting decision.
  10. The returns so far on Falvey's development pipeline are mediocre at best. Bailey Ober is the only one that really looks like he has a decent chance to stick in the rotation so far, but he may never be a workhorse due to either health or management. Barnes is likely AAAA, but I'll give him a chance for the rest of the season. Dobnak flashed, got his contract, took a dump and got hurt. Duran is hurt. Enlow is hurt. Sammons is struggling in the high minors. Landon Leach is at the complex. In the pen, Alcala has hopefully only hit a bump and is now hurt. Gore switched positions and might have a shot. Molina is still in Cedar Rapids and not lighting it up by any means. That's the pipeline that Falvey started and developed. Injuries happen, but 44% is pretty high. Is there a flaw in the mechanics coaching? Are they pushing something that's not sustainable? Now, they've obviously had four drafts, another deadline and also picked up Vallimont in the Romo deal when they were going the other way, but I mostly just see hype and injuries from those recent waves. Every front office had to deal with the pandemic, so that's an even playing field as far as I'm concerned. If Falvey was hired to develop instead of sign, then he better start showing results very soon. If we're all sitting here this time next year and reading about the bright future with the deep system loaded with Winders, Sandses, Canterinos, Durans, Balazovics, Pettys and SWRs but none of them are showing up to play or being constantly bridled by Baldelli, then I think the fan base is certainly within reason to call for a different direction.
  11. Yeah, I mean he's already 22, has never been hurt and played for that Ghost League in Atlantis in 2020. He's had plenty of time. He's probably had more than that Eduardo Escobar guy that never amounted to anything. Pull the plug.
  12. He threw a ton of fastballs Friday night and got loads of swings and misses. He was sitting 94-95 until he was pulled in the sixth. He got squeezed at some inopportune times, or his line would have been even better. He touched 98 early a couple of times, but he didn't really reach back for that after the first or second inning. I'm guessing he was told that he was going to go a little deeper. If I had to guess, I'd probably go with him being a late inning, high leverage guy unless he really develops his off-speed offerings and feels comfortable throwing them more. I really won't be surprised if he's in the Twins pen by June next season. Also, how in the hell was I able to get three seats in the first row directly behind home plate just a couple days before the game (with no one else in the row showing up) on the highest attendance night of the season? Must have been the 2-for-1s on soda and beer.
  13. I got my first chance to see Javier in action last Friday. The one thing he has going for him is that he can probably stick at SS at least from what I saw. It's not a deep position in the system. It could be a blessing in disguise that the bat still isn't quite there. He probably still slips through the Rule 5. He's still slightly young for his league, but that 33% K rate just isn't going to play. I hope he can hang on for at least another season or two and be a late bloomer.
  14. Maybe the Twins should take a page out of the Blue Jays book and draft Junior. Bichette, Biggio and Vlad are already part of that explosive offense, and Jeff Conine's kid is on the way. I'm on the Andruw Jones, Jr. bandwagon right now. My second choice would be whomever, among Temarr Johnson, Brooks Lee, Jayson Jones and Carter Young, the Twins think can stick at SS. They all seem destined for 2B, 3B or OF though.
  15. They're still projecting though. MLB did pretty well in 2016. There are some misses, but there are loads of stars and players who have had good seasons. https://www.mlb.com/news/2016-top-100-mlb-prospects-list-c301608606 Hopefully, Miranda will be our Matt Olson. ?
  16. Louie Varland had his turn skipped, and I feared he was hurt. Lucky for me, he got pushed back to Friday, and I will just happen to be going to that game. This Quad Cities team has a tough lineup. Kansas City definitely has the edge in offense at this level.
  17. He's lucky. Two lifetimes as an MLB pitcher. I'll probably be an emaciated cow.
  18. My impression is that Bailey Ober has little stamina as a starting rotation option. I wish the Twins had Luis Garcia instead.
  19. I fear this is the way it will be the rest of the season with every pitcher not named Maeda or Pineda. It really sucks as a fan. We've been waiting for another internally developed starting pitcher to rise up the ranks and grab a spot in the rotation and keep it. Ober has come the closest to doing that, and he gets pulled when he has a chance to do something fun like K 10 guys, win a game and really start to develop some swagger. Rocco is annoying. Ober worked through that 4th inning and then gets told "too much duress for you! Hit the shower".
  20. Robles gone too. Did they possibly send out Buurows as well and get rid of all 17 runs?
  21. Three hours left to move the expiring contracts or this isn't as sweet. I hope Martin can stick at SS.
  22. Yeah, it's looking like the decisions made in the next 29 hours will have a massive effect on the look and expectations of this club for the next 221-383 games. If Berrios does get traded, Falvine is going into the off-season with a 2022 starting rotation of Maeda, Ober, Dobnak, Jax, ?. If I'm Robbie Ray or someone similar, I'm laughing at any reasonable offer to come to Minnesota. It would have to be a huge overpay.
  23. You're really reaching to defend Baldelli here. I can give you #1 on Burrows, but not Happ and Minaya. Neither of them are long with the Twins, so there is no need to see what they can do in the situation. As far as #2 goes, I can't imagine there is much desire outside the org very deep into the Twins pen. It's been god awful all season.
  24. Give me nine walks and Rocco, and the sky ... er .... the bottomless pit is the limit!
  25. Let's stop being mean to Hansel. It was hot and his tummy was upset. It's all OK now, because Uncle Rocco tucked him in and read him a story.
