Luis Arraez is currently in the top 10 in OPS in the AL with 1 HR. That's how good he is at getting on base.

Twins Daily 2022 Draft Coverage, May 19
MMMordabito replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
It looks like Brandon Birdsell may have done well for himself not signing with the Twins as an 11th rounder last year. He's currently #93 in MLB top 100. I wonder if he will be on the radar for the Twins in the supplemental round 2 or round 3. He's had a really good 2022 college season. -
Twins Daily 2022 Draft Coverage, May 19
MMMordabito replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The Twins need to inject more catching depth. Susac at 8 wouldn't be a reach. -
Baldelli isn't the one who decides who's on the 26-man roster.

This. The FO sometimes just seems paralyzed by risk adversity. Things like signing Correa and letting Ryan have Opening Day made me think that was going away. They drafted this guy #1 overall with their first pick as an FO. Character and Athleticism were the key attributes used to sell him as "the guy". They were obviously right on the character so far, as Lewis showed by handling the dead season and devastating injury in back to back years. He basically picked up right where he left off in the 2019 AFL. So now on to athleticism, Lewis isn't at shortstop because that's the only position he can play. He's there because he's better at it than everyone else. He's probably better at all the other positions (save pitcher and catcher) than everyone else too. He doesn't need to dumb it down.

The Alex Kirilloff Situation Is a Colossal Bummer
MMMordabito replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Was he John Coffey? That's who Alex needs right now. -
Wow, lots of good pitching performances. I feel like Chi Chi is going to get his day again, but I have zero expectations. CES has been impressive, but 74 hits is his career MiLB total. He has 40 in 2022 (still impressive in early/mid-May).

I suppose Bundy doesn't matter for a day considering he pitched yesterday, but will the Twins be able to bring up a guy to fill in for Arraez? Is this how Royce Lewis makes his debut? I like how they updated the protocol for returning: two negative PCR tests, at least 24 hours without a fever, and approval from a team doctor and a MLB/MLBPA joint committee of two other physicians. That's better than a blanket number of days for everyone.

Yeah, I'd also go with the kindergartener kicking the crap out of the 2nd graders, instead of the 2nd grader kicking the crap out of the kindergarteners.

The bottom end of the bullpen earned their dough today. That's huge heading to Tampa with a rested Smith and Duran.

Joe Ryan appears to be appointment viewing. Detroit was the team that got to him last year, so it's good to see that he got them back. Good win!

Let's Cut Miguel Sanó Some Slack
MMMordabito replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My bad on the Ks. I must have misheard 19 Ks out of 52 trips to the plate in the broadcast and just rounded it to 40%. Perhaps, I was Gladdened. -
Let's Cut Miguel Sanó Some Slack
MMMordabito replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let's not. Maybe at .196, but not at .096 with 40% Ks and poor D. The deep dive into the stats is equivalent to turd polishing. Any bad luck being associated with xStat (shoulda, coulda, woulda) was all evened out yesterday with all the blind squirrelling. -
Doth saith Lugh, god of the artisans: "Emilio, my son. Thou must hurl the rock and trust my guidance, even whilst witnessing the thunderous blow returned unto thee. Thine enemies will be defeated as I will suck the wisdom from them, even whilst those surrounding thee appear to drown in ignorance."

Maybe the ownership shouldn't get into public arguments with the players over money that results in uncertainty and a delayed season. Maybe the ownership should make it easy and affordable to watch the games without circumventing blackout policies. Maybe the ownership should consider offering more than disgusting Bud Light at less than $13 a beer. Maybe the ownership should consider working better with Metro Transit to make sure green and blue LRT cars are available at reasonable intervals after night games. You can give me free tickets, and I still won't go this year.

Twins Daily Community Awards: 2022 Offseason
MMMordabito replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks, I'm happy to help myself and others spend as little money as possible watching baseball. If Twins Daily ever wanted some posts on "How to ...." (Nevermind) -
This looks to be a classic case of taking an opportunity to buy low. It takes risk to see reward, and the Twins need to win some of these to make up ground on the free-spending big guns. It's a great trade looking through the long term lens. I wish Rogers the best in San Diego. He was a great player for the Twins, but the page has turned. He'll get to play against his brother more often, so that should be a bonus for him.

Ryan is starting because he came into camp more prepared and ready to be stretched out than the rest of the starting staff. He's been able to ramp up at a more advanced pace. It's a vote of confidence that he earned, but it's also a result of the abbreviated ST. Regardless, I'll be surprised if he's sent out for the 5th inning. Some fun facts about those other two rookie OD starters: Steve Busby was matched up against a different Ryan - HOFer Nolan Ryan. Busby went 4.1 innings. Ryan pitched a complete game and struck out 12. Jose Guzman was matched up against perennial Blue Jays ace Dave Stieb. In this one, Stieb was the one who only went 4.1 innings, while Guzman went 8 innings and picked up the win.

Twins 2022 Minor League Transactions
MMMordabito replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Northfield's Jake Petricka signed to the minors. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/twins-sign-jake-petricka-minor-league-deal.html If he somehow makes it up to the Twins, they'll have two Northfield natives. Would be cool for a town of 21K to have to big leaugers on the hometown team.
