  1. August 21 @ Yankees looks like a definite mute day, especially if they put Verducci in the booth.
  2. I think very well. Same goes for Rooker. Being surrounded by three gold (two platinum) glove winners sure doesn't hurt. Of course, Simmons has to get to the States, and Buxton, Donaldson and Simmons have to stay healthy.
  3. Wow ... This is terrible news. I watched Seth's interview this morning and was looking forward to his ascent. I'm glad he's just 21. I think he has the make-up to get through this. Good luck with the surgery and rehab, Royce. Twins Nation is pulling for you.
  4. Boras isn't a bad guy for wanting to make his client more money, and the billionaires are more likely the bad guys. However, the CBA does exist, the Twins are a mid-market team and Boras has shown he will advise his clients to wait until free agency to do deals. The question here is will three weeks of Kirilloff in 2021 be more valuable than a full season of Kirilloff when he's 29. Will his absence from the lineup in April 2021 have more detriment to the organization in an expected playoff run season than his absence from the team for a whole season when he's 29 and the quality of team is an unknown? The OP stated that an extension could be pursued, if superstar performance was in play. Tatis was used as a comparable. I just don't see the possibility of extension or the higher value of three weeks in 2021. Good guy/bad buy isn't being argued.
  5. If Scott Boras wasn't his agent, then I'd agree. There is no chance of a reasonable extension with Boras, so take the extra year of control while you can get it. I don't like the service time manipulation, but it's within the rules. As a mid-market team, the Twins need to take advantage of any opportunity for player control they can get.
  6. One of these LH bats will need to move. How about sending Kirilloff and Balazovic to Colorado for Marquez? They might do something like this right now. If Kirilloff became an AS, we could just use the Coors-effect to help settle our trader's remorse.
  7. Ramirez is a good bet to lead the league in Walks this season. Knowing that Eddie (still love him) and Reyes are the only other bats in that lineup and are both prone to getting themselves out, why pitch to Ramirez?
  8. I agree on that group, especially Smeltzer and Thorpe, to a degree. I'm still holding out hope (possibly ill-advised) on Dobnak. He finished the year 1-4 in the giving his team a chance department. Not a good finish, and he may be figured out. However, I just can't stop rooting for the guy, because when he's on and the defense is on it makes for fun baseball. I hope he ends up being the change of pace pitcher in the rotations of coming years.
  9. Go shoot some ducks with Willinghammer! Have a blast, Dozier!
  10. The Kluber, Clevinger, Bieber, Civale, Plutko, Plesac, McKenzie train is getting old. (I probably forgot someone) C'mon Twins, time for a new Balazovic, Duran, Ober, Canterino, Enlow, Sands, Winder line. All the one 'n' done's in the rotation this year present the perfect opportunity for a segue.
  11. Yeah, someone will need to be moved. Someone also will likely not work out. LF, DH and 1B are the only spots these guys can occupy. Sano has two years, and if the Twins pick up the third, that means they were two good years. If Cruz is still producing and still signing by '23, then that will also come off of more productive years. That would be amazing. Hopefully, this will be a good problem to have.
  12. Seriously though, I think Buxton, Kepler and Broxton would be the real "Nothing Falls But Raindrops" deal. Just have to win the TTO contest!
  13. Bieber thinking of Sano and Broxton in the same lineup.
  14. I'm an Astudillo fan. We call him Build-A-Bear in my circles. I hope he gets that 26th spot, and I agree with the posts above that state he's a good fit for that part of the roster. With Rosario gone, the team needs some of the other animated or different players to keep it fun. Astudillo, along with Arraez, Cruz (love the robe), Donaldson and Dobnak (in his own way) are the ones that I think will be the foundation for fun. I hope some others pop up over the course of the season. The Twins have plenty of players that can take care of the SABR-$h!t. It's a long season, and the Twins aren't going to win the World Series every year. That doesn't mean it won't happen this year, or that the journey can't be a good time. If the Twins don't make the playoffs, or don't play meaningful games in September, or get swept in round 1, and someone can prove that having Astudillo occupying the 26th spot on the roster is to blame, I will gladly net (can't discharge a firearm where I live) a crow on my lawn and roast it up for an evening meal.
  15. Good luck, Wade, Jr! I do think this is a solid move. They dealt from depth (especially the L/L outfield pile) and acquired a bullpen arm that can ride the LRT between St. Paul and Minneapolis for two years, if necessary.
  16. Odorizzi pitched some good games for the Twins, but I hope he lands somewhere else. If he does come back, I'll root for him. Honestly, he isn't my favorite pitcher to watch. I much prefer watching Dobnak. I do understand that Dobnak may be figured out and doesn't have the stuff that Odorizzi has. Dobnak also seems to be content yet hungry with any role he is given, so another option at the 5th spot would be better for depth. This says nothing about the possibility that the Twins go the neo-unconventional route with handling innings on the backside of the rotation.
  17. Baldelli and the hitting coach should be fired. He can take his avocado's and shove them while he the door hits him in the rear end.
  18. #6 ... The Twins are probably the second favorite team of 14/15ths of the league and fan bases through Thursday. The Astros need to be kicked quickly from this tournament. Unleash the hate!!!!
  19. At least the Reds can't catch the Cubs or Padres, so they'll be lining up their best for the playoffs at this point. Need a big start from Big Mike tonight.
  20. They're gonna play the Yankees, and they're gonna lose. Get ready for winter.
  21. I'm not sure the White Sox series is the time to do it, but I hope Wade Jr. gets a lot of opportunities down the stretch. He has a .350 OBP over his first 100 ML PAs. If the Twins don't have room with all the outfielders knocking at the door soon, I'd bet Oakland snatches him up. He'd probably have a nice career there.
