  1. ... and the answer is Devin Smeltzer
  2. Hopefully, Lindor will sign with an NL team other than Milwaukee, and we won't have to see him more than three or four times every three years.
  3. Rooker is going to remind us of Willingham and Delmon Young in LF. He's a DH, and he'll probably be a good one.
  4. Why does this guy's name always come up, when he isn't an upgrade?
  5. Umm ... No. And Jose Abreu might have something to say about who is leading the Chicago White Sox.
  6. Are you looking to catch Chicago or Kansas City?
  7. "Solo home runs will never hurt you ..... I should know."
  8. Hopefully, Donaldson coming back will remedy some of that, but Adrianza had a couple key moments late. First, he convinced Captain Helicopter to let him stay in the game and avoid a major wildcard situation with Eddie in the infield late. Then, he made a situation saving play at third in the top of the ninth (shout out to Sano on the assist there).
  9. No S*** .... Losing 6 to close out August isn't pretty, but they still have 5 to go to catch the 2016 team that lost 11 to close out August (and that's after opening the season 0-9) The last week has sucked with the losing, the delays and the general wasting of time, but these Twins have a long way to go to reach the bottom.
  10. Womp, womp. Article after article. Post after post. All the speculation can only buy an empty bag after a 3-7 road trip. Ildamaro Vargas is the FO's haul!
  11. Thank you for actually suggesting something that can move things forward. All we're hearing are the same cliches: "We need change", "We need to have tough conversations", "Let's throw money at it". We've been hearing those empty statements for years, and nothing gets done. The Phillies, for example, could have used their big bad platform to point to the legislation in Pennsylvania that could completely gut their arbitration process, but, no, it's just the same old "We stand in solidarity". "Look at us, we, like, rescheduled a game. Like, we totally, like, helped those people."
  12. It doesn't appear that the Pirates and Cardinals players care. They were the only two teams that didn't fall in line. Oh wait, they had a double-header. Rescheduling that would be too inconvenient for a social justice statement. The whole charade is a farce.
  13. I agree that consequences are not necessary to make a statement. I just wish the statements coming from each team weren't so generic. I also think the message has little clout when someone can just change the channel and watch a different game. That's what makes me thinks the teams are just falling in line as to not be singled out. It feels disingenuous. Every player probably feels like the guy in the commercial mulling over checking the organ donorship box on his driver's license. The entire room is staring at him, so he decides that he can lose the glaring eyes and maybe feel better about himself. Anyone who thinks that 100% of the players have strong feelings about this is just blinded by idealism.
  14. This assumes that the game goes completely the same way other than Duffey pitching the 6th instead of Alcala. Ramirez/Lindor/Santana would definitely come up again, but the situation may not be those three leading off the inning in a 2-1 game. I agree that Alcala has earned a shot at an expanded role, but high leverage against the best three hitters Cleveland has with a one run lead and Duffey available is certainly ripe for second guesses. With all that said, I didn't mind giving the kid a shot in a regular season game with a 20-10 record. I think Rocco and Co. are playing the long game. Hopefully, Alcala will have a positive response to the bad showing. Next time, he'll have less nerves and more mound presence. He certainly has the stuff to be good in that role.
  15. If it's close and Hill can get through five, I'd challenge Alcala to keep the Twins in the game and then let Duffey finish it off if/when the Twins are in front. If Hill gets rammed, then I'd just let Coulombe wear one and use Poppen (21 pitches two days ago) if it gets unwatchable. $.02 of a moderately informed observer.
  16. It reminded me of Bill and Ted as Wyld Stallions. That homer catch may end up bolstering relations between nations and facilitating contact with extraterrestrial life.
  17. Just offer Cruz 2/$40 mill now. Even if age finally catches up, he still a boonstick in the dugout when he's not a boomstick at the plate.
  18. 4 for his last 10 Three sky is falling articles based on 40 PAs has to be a record.
  19. I usually get, "Thanks, Statman. More useless information taking up square-footage in your brain cells."
  20. Wow. That's some well-presented detailed information. Thank you!
  21. Good teams find ways to win, and bad teams find ways to lose. It's always fun to watch a walk-off, but that's about as close as I've seen a team come to saying, "Here, take this win. We don't want it." I think Morneau nailed it with assuming Shelton was trying to see how guys performed in different situations.
  22. Little early for an article like this. I can't even read it after seeing the title.
  23. Send Holland to the showers early and then maybe mic him up in the 8th for some Harry Carey impressions. "Hey Dick, now this might be the Budweiser talkin', but I swear those fans behind home plate look like cardboard cutouts."
  24. Agreed. Sick people -> Medical Workers, Law Enforcement, Food Producers. I'm sure I left something out. Let's get daily testing and home support to those people first. Also, baseball is always an escape for me. I'm hopeful when it does come back that announcers are instructed to keep coronavirus commentary to an absolute minimum. That's a personal opinion though.
