Opinion: Twins TV Hits a Grand Slam with All Analyst Broadcast

Most TV and radio broadcasting is unlistenable.... So any change, occasionally, is a good idea. Plus, given who I'm seeing on what side.... I'm confident I'm right.

I enjoyed the change in broadcast but am ready to go back to the regular format. Once or twice a year would be fine. I think it would be interesting to have a no broadcaster format. Turn up the ballpark sounds and provide info on a ribbon on the bottom of the screen. Other than Molly I don’t learn anything from the broadcasters and I like the ambience of a ballpark.

I mostly listen to music or nothing when sports are on TV....

I frequently turn the volume down as well but miss the sounds of the game.

Man, this thread just goes to show that for some people their very idea of "baseball" includes "not fun".

Can't overdue this idea but as someone who tunes in very infrequenty to Twins broadcasts, this was "must watch" for me.  I enjoy fun with my baseball.

For my part I loved it.  I was laughing pretty hard multiple times and totally entertained which I believe is  the ultimate point of baseball.  I would not mind seeing this format a bit more or perhaps smaller and more game focused versions of it.  Virtually every game can use a few moments of levity and a reminder of the joy of the game.  

Hat tip to Tom Pohlad.  Great job reading the room and having some fun with it.  I would like to believe that if any of us owned an MLB team we would like to have some fun with it.  I am willing to suspend judgement on his tenure and see what happens this offseason.  

Speaking to the haters, this endless dredge of dark, curmudgeonly comments on here feel like algorithmic trolling.  Everyone knows you are pissed about payroll and hate ownership.  Inserting that in to every comment you post adds nothing to the conversation.  My .02

It was like eavesdropping at the bar while a bunch of bros reminsce about their glory days.

I think the 2026 Twins may have also been on the field, but I'm not sure.

Fun, but it got old on the third day.

I watched almost all of both night games and was entertained. It's an interesting cross section of former Twins, all good players, but a couple who were stars. The players offered a window into what a major league ballplayer experiences during a season (and a career) and also gives us a behind the scenes view of the friendships that evolve. The guys obviously also know a lot about the game and do have varied perspectives.

I agree that this is not something that can done for more than a few days. As mentioned, everyone thought Bert was great as an analyst, but he wore on many of us by the time he retired. I did enjoy this change of pace.

I enjoyed it. I agree with some of the others that maybe it could be spread throughout the season instead of all in one week. Coincides with Provus’s time off so makes sense that it is condensed. Nice job changing it up twins.tv.

Too much talking for me.  I am here to watch the game and hear the game in progress.  Some of the insight dialogue should be kept to when we want to hear it.  It is tough enough subscribing to Twins TV and get games not available because they are on Apple, YouTube, Peacock or the ridiculous blackouts.  If I am paying, I want the season, not an abbreviated season.

I prefer a Herb Carneal calling the game and color commentary for filler.

I liked it. I’m also someone who doesn’t need to hear what I’m watching, but understand people who need that for whatever reason. Not a knock on Provus. He’s great. I wish he was on the radio when I’m not able to watch.

I'm with you OTHA...it must be an age thing. Younger folks who were constantly plopped in front of a video or computer screens and never had to look out the window of the car on road trips and use their imaginations to pass the time crave razzmatazz beyond the game itself. For me, the game has always been enough and anything, (from in-game dugout interviews to interviewing players in the field during play) that distracts from the game itself is unwelcome. It's just a matter of time before drones will be following players as they run the bases, possibly asking them questions regarding whether they are planning to go for third and if they anticipate sliding. Too far-fetched? I'm not so sure...but fortunately, I'll be long gone.

And please, stay off my lawn!
