A strategic move could be DFA Raya. He's been so bad in AAA that he will slip through waivers easily. Abel probably could go on 60 day. I think the return date would be around June 12 and I don’t think he has thrown from the mound yet. He is going to need a full rehab before returning. Acton is also a 60 day candidate. I think it was important to put Jeffers behind the plate for him. Jeffers has been so valuable to the development of this pitching staff. Rojas really did look good. Hope this is a sign rather than a fluke, but he's still pretty wild. But my goodness the stuff is excellent when he's cooking. Really thought the bullpen was going to kick this game away for a bit; Topa was quite bad and really doesn't have an excuse of the weather delay. Looking at his last 5 games there's 3 really bad ones and 2 good ones and that's not a ratio we can live with. Bummer that the rain came in after just 1 inning from SWR. Really wanted to see how he'd do in a 2-3 inning stint. Great to see Bell get off the shnide; he's actually hit some balls hard lately but come up with nothing, so maybe the 2 dingers gets him rolling again. With Jeffers going down (sigh) we need him slugging. RpR and Dman 2
Peter Verified Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Bullpen almost cost us game as it was nerve wracking after rain delay!!! First inning was huge getting out of no out bases loaded jam!!! Josh bell was 💪💪💪Rojas was fantastic!!! SWR looked great!!! Our closer Garcia ran into trouble with 2 walks!!! Can’t walk lead off batter!!! It almost bit us in ass!!! Huge win!!! Let’s get one tonight and win series/homestand!! thelanges5 1
tony&rodney Verified Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Rock and a hard place if Buxton and Jeffers sit. The Twins could put Alan Roden on 60 day IL if a catcher needs to be added today. Buck is likely to sit again with the cold weather being a reality. The guys playing need to hit and field. Maybe Zebby Matthews can throw 8 innings tonight to give the bullpen a day off. Players will need to step up with their opportunities.

Peter you keep saying SWR looked great 👍 I don't think that word means what you think it means 😬

And why is Topa still in the bigs? He isn't the only rag arm in the pen, but he is one that needs to be DFAd Topa....I could not agree more. He needs to be gone today.

Senior Softball Guy Verified Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 With a 6 run lead, Topa walks the leadoff man. A rookie does that is one thing, but a veteran major leaguer? You lay one in there and he goes yard...tip your hat, but free passes? Adios Senor Topa.
David Maro Verified Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 SWR has to drop the splitter it has brought him far to many 3-2 counts. And sorry but Topa has to go he tried all he could to give the game away. You can't come in and walk the leadoff hitter and make things worse by hitting the next hitter. He is a veteran pitcher who is pitching like a rookie. Jeffers can't DH with a sore wrist, swinging a bat will make things worse. Hopefully it's a mild issue and could be back soon.

For the many people who criticize the Twin's inability to draft and develop talent, Jeffers really is the great Twins success story. He was a bat-first pick from a small(ish) college back in 2018. He's become a good catcher through hard work and coaching, and has easily been the best player drafted in the 2nd round that year. They do this all the time. And Buxton taking longer than anticipated to come back from his tweaks is as predictable as the sun rising in the east.

I wonder what rapport Zebby and Jackson built at AAA, I hope Shelton takes that into account when setting the lineup tonight and tomorrow.

Last start he seemed to do better when he pitched to the top of the zone, but a lot of improvement needs to happen.

Yes we read the same summary by Dr Al. Atlanta lost their catcher today also, replacements will likely have to come from within. Jackson doesn't terrify me, and he has worked with Abel and Zebby. I'm curious how this impacts Jeffers' trade value as much as his impact on the team this season on the field. We dodged a bullet with Joe Ryan. Road trip 1

David Maro Verified Member Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Saw some good news and some bad news this afternoon!! The good news Buxton at DH and Lewis to the Saints. Also good Topa DFA'ed which needed to happen weeks ago. The bad news Jeffers with the hamate bone break to IL until the AS break probably. That is the big blow this team may not be able to over come.
