That's my point, if they were truly being aggressive and less risk averse, we would see guys up here from the minor leagues in the bullpen.  These castoffs are bad pitchers but have less risk and less upside.  They are only looking at the risk side of the equation.

So some of you know I like to stop off pretty often at this little neighborhood bar for a beer or two.

I noticed this fellow, Irish I believe, would come in every day and order two shots. He'd sit quietly for a few seconds after the shots came, and then down both. 

I got curious so I asked him what was the deal? "Well," he said. "Me brother is back in Ireland and I miss the lad terribly, so each day I have a shot for him, and one for me. Helps me remember."

I thought that was pretty neat, and it went on for quite some time, until yesterday. He walked in, ordered only 1 shot, sat quietly for twice the normal time, then downed the single shot. 

"Friend," I said, almost afraid to ask. "Did something happen to your brother?"

"Oh no" he said, but very Somber. "Im afraid my doctor said I haffta give up drinkin"

having received successful PT for TOS, I feel for Wheeler. It’s excruciating! The PT is almost as bad as the pain from the nerve damage. Spreading your ribs with fingers and tools hurts really bad!

I find the candor refreshing.

Except he's been awful for a year, and he refuses to change or take coaching. So it's not like he's getting a huge raise this way.

But will his raise be higher than if he alters his swing mid season? Motivations not outcomes.

i agree he’s sucked, but the tinkerers on the club have sucked too.

In any event, if you won't take coaching, you likely aren't going to get better. Scottie Scheffler makes changes...... confident humans are willing to do so.

I've been thinking about this for a while.  Who has improved as a hitter on the Twins in the last 2 or 3 years?

I'm going to say nobody.

There was discussion about clubhouse culture recently, and of course none of us know what it's like.  But I don't think the idea of "You're a pro, just do your job" is realistic either.  I'm guessing some of us have jobs, and those workplaces have cultures.  Some are high energy, some are apathetic, some are negative, etc etc  It's very hard to change a culture, and sometimes it's very hard not to be affected by the culture.  

From the outside, it appears whatever the culture is in the clubhouse isn't working, because it doesn't seem that there is much improvement going on recently, at least among batters.

Small sample size but their best hitter is Keaschall. The one with the least exposure to the MLB coaches/clubhouse.

You're right though nobody has gotten better.   Many regressed

The skor north podcast talked about this the other day. Hitters coming up, doing well and then not adjusting to the adjustments made by the league. Concerning that the coaches apparently can’t figure that out, there are certainly enough of them. They said a lot of players are looking for and not getting any direction. Or is it a certain philosophy that they aren’t allowed to diverge from? How can David popkins get canned here and now have a top 5 offense in AVG and OPS? Either way, with a ton of prospects currently doing well in the minors, it’s unnerving to think that no changes have been made in on/off field management/philosophy yet and it doesn’t seem like they’re coming. Will the new crop of prospects be ruined too as we continue to hold on to the management that hasn’t produced results?
