you're just making things up right now 

That's really not fair to say. He 'breezed' through the 6th except he gave up a homerun. He didn't breeze through any part of the game. There was a lot of hard contact. And he was fortunate to only have given up 2 runs through 5.

If the manager can't take the pulse of the game and know when to pull a pitcher, that's a problem.

Jeffers leads the team in HR's but has done precious little since May. Maybe the most disappointing hitter on the team this season (despite the HR's) His 'd' hasn't been very good either.

This game had 'L' written all over it, right from the start. Regroup and get it done tomorrow.

Let's talk about this game, that is what I am referring to and Varland has given us the opportunity to win.  Most comments are making it seem like he gave up 10 runs in the first inning,  If you don't think he belongs in the rotation, that is a fair opinion but the results have been there the last two games.  And I think sometimes we look for all the different stats and are they hitting a pitcher and forget to look at the results.

No matter the decisions, this one is on the offense. You’re not gonna win many games all scored in one run.
 

It has been said many times on this site, but the situational hitting has been terrible. Lewis wouldn’t have had to take the bat off his shoulder and they would’ve scored a run.

I get where all this is coming from, but is Duran really someone this team needs to save for the big innings? Seems to me Jax is far and away the team's best reliever this year, and there is easily a case to waste Duran over Alcala and Sands.

For me, it isn't necessarily about 'wasting' Duran as it is the guy has struggled in non-save situations - so if Rocco felt that the 7th inning, down 2 runs, was high leverage - use someone that is more used to or comfortable in that role.

Now if the answer is Duran's lost his manager's confidence, that's a different story but as of yet, it isn't out there.

I'd say most posters are objective about Rocco and will criticize or congratulate him as they see fit. 

But there are far more posters who wouldn't give Rocco credit for saving kids from a burning orphanage than there are who will excuse every move he makes.

I just don’t get how they can look so disinterested in an important game… it happens way too often in the final game of a series. Is the tone set from earlier in the season when Rocco uses his give away lineups like some games don’t matter.. obviously they are going to lose, but the lack of effort at times is head scratching .

I believe players perform better when they know their role, especially relievers. Duran, the closer, doesn’t pitch in 5 days and he’s put in to a game in the 7th inning when we’re behind. It’s odd and totally fair to ask why when other guys (alcala for instance) pitch in the 6-7th inning time frame. 
 

Then the idea that a 2-3 run deficit is a time to throw arguably your shakiest reliever to save the rest of the arms is kind of wild to me. Its mid august. It didn’t end up costing any more runs but it nearly did. I think the time for punting on games is running out when we’re not many games behind/ahead. The tying run was up twice with two home run threats (Santana and Miranda) at bat.

Both Chief and I have given Rocco credit several times within the last week when he made good decisions.  Not speaking for the Chief (he obviously has that covered in spades) but we seem to search for Rocco positives, but its slim pickings.
