Then DONT waste Duran.

People think pitchers are going to forget how to pitch if they don’t throw in games every other day. It’s mid august. Maybe Duran could have used a break since everyone talks about his decreasing velocity

Oh look the tying run is up. Not really insurmountable eh?

Cause 3 run HRs grow on trees right?

Now the royals are at a 97.2% chance of winning. Still wanna burn Jax here?

I guess pitchers do get some credit here but Twins have had some real lousy AB's today. They really have never been in this one, Two chances to get a clutch hit and...nothing.

The chance was there with Santana and Miranda up. I’m not sure why you think it was some impossibility that we could have tied it up there.

That was a perfect example of how hard it's going to be for Martin to have a productive MLB career.

Just doesn't have any power whatsoever. He got his pitch, squared it up, pulled it perfectly...and drove it to the middle of three warning track.

Coupled with no position, he's going to have a hard time  being an asset.

Agreed. I was excited seeing his prospect ranking when the Twins traded Berrios for him, but that lasted about 30 seconds after I looked at his stats. This type of hitter has no margin for error.

To repeat: why burn Duran?

He hadn’t pitched since August 9th

It was a much more winnable game at that point. He’s not exactly pitching like a closer this year. Alcala and Jax are better pitchers.

Right after burning Duran

Riiiiight

Duran came in with a 2 run deficiet with 3 innings left for Twins batters.   Richards came in with a 3 run deficiet with 2 innings left to play.  I would say they are different scenarios.

I literally responded with more than that. You’re being an absolute clown.

Look, you can love everything Rocco. It's your right.

But clown? That's OB.

And I have every right to question very questionable managerial moves.

And I literally quoted you.

Duran's been iffy at best in non-save situations. If you felt the need to use a high-leverage arm in the 7th, when you have Sands, Alcala, and Jax available, why do you go for the pitcher that's least comfortable in that situation?

With the lack of days off the rest of the month, Duran's going to have plenty of opportunities to pitch. There was nothing that said Rocco HAD to use him today.

It was a bad decision.

It’s hilarious to me that they saw Richards 92 mph fastball with no movement and were like “yeah that’s what we need to add to this team.”

True, I think they made the trade just to make a trade.  They were the only team without a deadline transaction at that point and didn't want to look like they didn't try.   Desperation at its finest!

If Duran doesn't feel comfortable in a non save situation, you've got a big problem.  He should be the guy you go to when you need outs.

All of this is moot done the bats didn't show up today.  I still don't have a problem using Duran in that spot.  I have more of an issue letting Varland pitch the 6th.

Richards? OK. Rocco pretty much showed he didn't care about today when he sent Varland out for the 6th after tightrope walking without a net.

Then don't burn Duran.

barring a 9th inning rally which seems very improbable (not impossible) our go-to hitters had some very weak AB's today when it mattered. But thats the 'fan' talking. Sometimes good pitching stops good hitting, right? There are days when erasing a 3 run deficit doesn't seem too big a task. Then there are days like today when a 3 run deficit seems like a 10 run deficit. One of those games where Twins honestly look like they want to get it over with.

Alcala was warm if Varland was struggling in the 6th

Varland breezed through the 6th

you're just making things up right now

Yeah! Just like Rod Carew except Martin is a much better 2Bman. You don't have to have power to be an asset. Martin can eventually develop power.

I didn't look this up, but doesn't it seem like there is a big inbalance with the Twins between walks taken versus walks allowed.  Today 0 walks for Twins.  KC has walked 4 times.

Twins are swinging at alot of bad pitches.

Mission accomplished-got winning homeland and most importantly won season series with Royals. With series wins over Astros/seattle and now royals this is huge in getting into playoffs!!! Go twins!!!

He wouldn't be the first closer to struggle in those situations. It's been mentioned at various times during the season. At this point in the season, it is what it is. I'd prefer to use one of the relievers that fares better in that spot.
