3 runs down in the 8th inning is hardly no chance to win. Not saying it’s going to happen but sheesh, can’t consider yourself a playoff team if that’s some insurmountable, wave the white flag, situation

It was a 3-1 game into the 7th at that point. A 3 run lead is a lot tougher to come back from with 2 innings remaining. 
Royals at a 91% chance of winning this game right now

you just can’t burn all your top arms in a game like this. Duran also had not  pitched in a long time

Absolutely terrible AB from Garcia there. Swinging 2-0 with Witt on deck, then K'ing on ball 4 that was nowhere near the zone. **** happens, but I don't know how a Major league hitter can be that clueless.

Also, Richards can be gone at any point.

Duran had not pitched since the 9th

it was 3-1 at that time with an extra inning for the offense to wake up. The offense has not woken up. This is not a realistic game to win at this point. They have 7 more games in a row after today

That was a perfect example of how hard it's going to be for Martin to have a productive MLB career. 

Just doesn't have any power whatsoever. He got his pitch, squared it up, pulled it perfectly...and drove it to the middle of the warning track.

Coupled with no position, he's going to have a hard time  being an asset.

I'd rather Blewett than Richards. Blewett's got a slider that can make bats miss. Richards has a change-up that he can't locate and a 4-seamer that maxes out at 92.

But if you pitch Jax and Alcala instead then they can’t pitch as much in the next couple days. You can’t be throwing your best pitchers into games they’re down 3 runs. 
if the twins win the next game by 1 run and have another small lead the next game you’ll be furious that Jax and Alcala were wasted today

So why use your closer down two runs in the 7th? He’s not going to forget how to pitch because he’s had a couple days off.
