Great Win, can we now stop with the Twins can't make it deep in the playoffs talk? If they can get there anything can happen (Like a left fielder totally butchering a fly ball) and the team should do what they can to get to the playoffs.

On a side not watching Julien's bat yesterday was painful and like watching a car wreck, he seems so lost at the plate right now that continuing to send him out there feels like cruel and unusual punishment.

I would have sent Julien down yesterday instead of Castillo.   Castillo is a better defender and currently a better hitter.   Plus, he is right-handed.   Just do not understand FO love for Julien.

I think Julien has been up strictly because, actually, he's a better defender. He really has come miles in that regard. And Castillo being DFA was a matter of creating a 40-man spot, not a 26-man one. Optioning Julien wouldn't have solved that problem. But to be sure, he's struggling, and I'd guess he's going back to St. Paul tomorrow.

Just trying to give him an opportunity instead of crushing him after he K’d looking 3 times in a game. RH pitcher today and neither would be on the roster after Wednesday.

He got a hit Wednesday. Still seems mentally incapable of The Show. Unfortunate. He needs to be off the 26-man and trying to HIT the ball and not trying to pump up his OBP in St Paul……..praising his ability to walk feeds his complacency and reluctance at the plate, IMO. Much rather see the .265 hitter with OBP of .360 v. .220 BA and a .385 OBP. Gotta make things happen in the box and not just kick the can to the next guy ALL THE TIME. Sports psychologist ……needs to free up his mind somehow!

I think the FO called Julien up to perform well so his trade value would increase.  If this was the case it was a monumental failure.

In regards to the homestand, 2-3 is about what I hoped for.   The Twins won the only comfortable game.  Lost in the 9th inning of game they were being shutout in.  The other three were tossups.  All of this happened with 3 players that should be in StP, or DFAd on the 26 man roster.  JMHO GLTA

More struggles from Okert and Theilbar. Was anyone really surprised? I think this just shows how badly we need some left handed relief help. As for starters though, Festa did great. Would love to see him build off this in his next spot start. Looks like he's got strikeout stuff. If he can just learn to locate a bit better and not walk guys, he may turn into a decent starter for us. Maybe help eat some innings down the stretch. It is usually a lot cheaper to add the the bullpen rather than the rotation at the deadline, and with the Twins crying poverty the bullpen might be the only help we get. Hopefully a lefty!

I think this is the primary reason it was Julien over Castillo.  They needed a 40 man spot for Brock Stewart who had been on the 60-day IL, and had completed his rehab work.  There is a 40-man space crunch coming up with Topa soon to need as spot as well.  Castillo did fine in his time in the majors, but was sort of the easiest player to justify removing from the 40-man roster.

The team had to make room on the 26-man roster and the 40-man roster to bring Stewart back. Castillo was the easy choice. I do agree Julien still looks lost at the plate and probably would benefit from another trip on the Green Line, but it looks like Lee isn’t in a much better place. Camargo is hardly being used and Martin’s role is also limited. All of those guys are optionable. There’s room to add back all the injured hitters IMHO.

Why do you want more RH hitters?

It was a positive homestead from my perspective  ....

With all the injuries to key players  they still fought a good fight ...

Could have lost them all but starters held the big bats of phillies in check , got to commend them for that  ....

Don't open this bag of worms again, some people have very strong opinions about some of baseball's "unwritten" rules...

The American League record is 103 set by the Cleveland Indians in 2008.  With 72 Hit by Pitch bruises, suffice it to say that the 2024 Minnesota Twins are on pace to break the record.  Fines are in order if nothing else.  Give the money to charity!  From Baseball Almanac:image.png.a5e82f0feef2bb6cd0002583b40a2235.png

Roster additions coming up - Lewis, Miranda & Correa

Roster subtractions coming up - Julien, Martin & Lee

Julien and Martin sent ack down when Lewis and Miranda return, probably Friday. I think Lee will be up until Correa comes back because of his ability to play SS and he's also a switch hitter.

I don't think there are roster spots for Farmer and Kirilloff unless there is another injury - use the IL for as long as necessary for both, then use Kirilloff's remaining option and let Farmer use the full 20 day rehab assignment.

Camargo..... Not Lee. They're going to give Lee time.

Not only that, but they had been running with 21 position players and only 19 pitchers.  That's a very unusual ratio in this day and age.  It was pretty much going to have to be a hitter that made room for Brock Stewart.

for stewart? Or someone else? who came up?

My bad, transactions say it was today. Impending move ahead of Miranda or Lewis. Maybe Martin gets to stay a little longer, he looks better all around than Julien does.

Was typing that when TD notified me that you quoted me... ;)

Martin is just better than Julien right now, and I'm shocked to type that (and Martin's value is mostly in his flexibility and baserunning and bunting, as he just isn't hitting yet).

With Miranda, Correa and Lewis out we are down to having to DH Vasquez against left-handers.

I won’t say problem solved quite yet, but it looks like Lewis and Miranda will be playing before the Twins road trip is over.
