spideyo Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 As discussed in a different thread, Bert is working fewer and fewer games. Eventually, he will step aside and cease being a regular on TV. My theory is that the Twins would like to keep that seat occupied by a former player. Who would you like to see have a shot at taking over from Bert? I think the job is Cuddy's if he wants when he retires, but who else is out there that would do a good job? note: I am specifically looking at TV, since it's an entirely different talent to be a radio play-by-play guy. So don't turn this into a "fire Gladden" thread please.
SweetOne69 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I believe that most of the time when Bert isn't covering the Twins it is due to his HOF obligations.
Oxtung Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Glenn Perkins. Do you think we could Kickstarter a few million dollars to coax him into retirement and the booth? It would be awesome to hear his "cybermetric" takes. I can just imagine how flabbergasted Bremer would be the first time Perk whipped out xFIP.
Westgaard66 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Don't know why, but I think Hrbek would be great.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I hear Michelle Bachmann will be looking for a new job ...
spideyo Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 I hear Michelle Bachmann will be looking for a new job ...Princess Unicorn Crazy Pants would make people beg for Blyleven to come back
greengoblinrulz Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 anyone that isnt a Twins apologist would work
ashbury Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Don't know why, but I think Hrbek would be great. I love the guy to pieces but the phrase "small doses" comes to mind.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Ron Gardenhire...he'll be looking for a new job, soon. Or so people keep posting!
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I bet Stelly would make a heck of a color guy. Failing that, maybe Radke.
Pius Jefferson Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Jesse Ventura comes back to Minnesota during the summer months. He and Dick could talk conspiracy theories against the Twins.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I would vote for Gleeman and the Geek with a full TwinsCentric crew on hand for various analyses and interviews. And I am not kidding or blowing smoke at all.
MWLFan Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Big Fella. Best Color Man in the Business, or Wally Backman. Bert only uttered one F-Bomb so far, Wally is good for a couple a month I think. Actually Cuddy would be the best probably. Now don't get your hopes up on getting a impartial voice as long as the team is signing the checks. Baseball broadcasts are marketing not journalism. Everything is supposed to make the team look palatable to the $$$ paying public, even when they lose almost 100 games. Actually that takes a lot of talent and soberity to stay so upbeat around a team like we have had lately. And I think Cuddy has that in him, he was always a good company man.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I have only heard him on the radio, but I was surprised how interesting Tim Laudner was to listen to when he covered for someone. I would not have guessed I would have enjoyed him as much as I did. Intelligent and informed remarks.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 My first choice would be: Billy Ripken... He's the best analyst on MLB network. My Ex-Twin first choice would be: Jack Morris and Tom Kelly as a team with a PBP guy but please do not require TK to wear a suit.
darin617 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 The only choice should be Ozzie Guillen!!!He would so great and it would so funny listening to Dick try to figure out what the heck Ozzie is talking about. The only problem the Twins would not want someone with an actual opinion. They would want another yes man/suck up to the Twins.Ozzie would certainly make games more interesting if you can understand him.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I can't stand listening to TK. I really just can't stand him period.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 As usual, I have the best idea so far
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I can't stand listening to TK. I really just can't stand him period. That's OK... I don't like the color Orange at all and my youngest Son does. I like Rage against the Machine and I just had a conversation with someone who can't stand them because Zack De La Rocha has no sense of melody. TK doesn't have a great voice or decent inflection... I'll give you that... but... he knows his baseball in my opinion and I like his attempts to raise the bar from a baseball intelligence standpoint and I can personally sacrifice inflection for that.
Gernzy Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 No one stated the best choice...Hawk Harrelson Seriously though knowing the Twins and FSN, they will take someone like Coomer. And I would not have an issue with that.
buffalo_pete Provisional Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Joe Nathan was really good the couple times he sat in.
Thegrin Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Bert isn't going anywhere. 100 games a year is about right for him. In the meantime we get experience a variety of sidekicks for Dick.
ScottyB Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Bring Jim Kaat back. Best team ever was Ted Robinson and Jim Kaat. Doubt they'd come back, short of that Jack Morris always did a great job.
