Calling up Stevenson … wut?

What this FO is doing is a mystery to me. Luplow is hitting. .188 against RHP, .200 against LHP. Better than Gallo, but no one knows why Gallo even got the job, or that ridiculous salary, much less how he's keeping the job.

Is Levine paying Boras (Gallo's agent) back for some favor we don't know about? Very odd. And depressing

I expect this is a very short term move with Willi Castro, Alex Kirilloff and Byron Buxton all expected to be on the active roster by a week from today. As long as Stevenson was in the organization, the team would be granted a spot for Stevenson in the very unlikely case that he would be considered to be on a post-season roster. This also likely ends Miranda's chances of playing for the Twins this year (not much of a surprise or loss). 

Castro replaces Stevenson, Buxton replaces Luplow and Kirilloff replaces Gallo.

BTW, when they were teammates in Washington, MAT was the center fielder and Stevenson played a corner. Also, despite the 44 stolen bases this year, Stevenson's major league numbers include only five steals in 248 games and 449 plate appearances.

I read that as saying the Twins could petition to put Stevenson on the eligible 40 man if they need to assuming the other criteria are met.  

I wonder...can this hypothetical petition be denied?  If so what then?

It can but there has never been a petition that was denied for an injury related reason. If it was denied then they'd ask for another player or use someone already on the 40 man.

Congrats to Andrew... Go get em. You've earned the call up. 

I'm not worried about being added today or yesterday if we need him for the playoffs he will find his way on the roster.

Today or yesterday... Ehh... It's late either way because he should have been added back in June in my opinion.

Well Stevenson just got a single and 2 stolen bases then got left at third base.  Gallo walked and stole a base too and was left at 2nd base.  its middle of 9th inning and the Twins are up 5-1 so they should win the game.  but it would be nice for Stevenson sake to score a run.

Stevenson’s chances of sticking around increased significantly ……because of events in St. Paul. No Buxton, probably for quite a while, and perhaps for the season.

Yes. There might have had to be another small move, but yes.

I will say, this way, they get to choose who replaces Miranda, and possibly now Buxton, so that could be the sliver of logic.

I believe if anyone on the postseason roster goes on the IL he can be replaced with anyone. Conversely, if any player comes off the IL he can replace anyone on the postseason roster.

I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that matters for a postseason roster is the player was in the org by the end of August.

Pretty much true. It's slightly easier if they're on the 40-man on August 31 but still pretty easy either way.

I don't remember any request for a non-40 man player being denied. Maybe there have been some that were never mentioned publicly.
