FYI, they haven't played Martin at SS this year. I think that experiment is finally over. They've had him at 2B, CF, and LF. I'd bet Lee takes over as the fulltime SS in St Paul now. I don't expect to see Lee in a Twins uni this year, but he'd be a September callup for me if he does well in St Paul for a month. He's going to be eligible for the draft pick compensation attached to rookie of the year voting next year, but you have to have him on your opening day roster for that (if I'm remembering that rule correctly). I'd like to get him a little exposure in September so he knows what adjustments he has to make and can work on them in the offseason/spring training to hopefully hit the ground running in Minneapolis starting opening day. Don't expect this to be the Twins plan right now, but it'd be mine. Hawkeye Bean Counter, SF Twins Fan, glunn and 4 others 7

Hawkeye Bean Counter Verified Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 You are going to start seeing more movement as I think you will see a few moves at the mlb team and opening up more spots throughout the minors to allow for call ups and the draftees to get their feet wet. This is a very nice progression for Lee. He is on track to potentially be in the majors next year, and with the incentive of a draft pick for rookie of the year, I think that will encourage the Twins to bring him up. The issue is still going to be spots, Kiriloff, Correa, Julien Lewis, Brooks. See how it pans out. glunn and wabene 2

Martin , i think has totally under performed , Yes he has had Injuries , Would Martin if not a High profile pick because of the Berrios trade and how he and S.W.R. Both are still not close to what alot of Folk expected , Just glad to now be able to go to Saints game and see the Talent level there, Lee in Sept, -Yes - Hope he does well and we see him, glunn and chpettit19 2

I'd guess we see him at some point next year, but doubt it's opening day. I really hope I'm wrong (assuming he does well in AAA and Spring Training). glunn and wabene 2

I thought the draft pick incentive was totally tied to the Rookie of the Year and not being on the Twins roster at the start of the year and teams start them on the roster to give them a better chance at Rookie of the Year but I must be wrong. glunn 1

The incentive greatly encourages the Twins to put him on the big league team it will just be trying to maneuver the roster and possible more trades in the offseason. The middle infield depth in the minors is just nuts - Prato, Helman, Brooks, Martin, Severino, Gray, Schobel, Yake, Ortega, Ross, Keaschall. weitz41 and glunn 2

I would put good money on no more than one of those players being a better than average MLB regular. And I'd be shocked if it's anyone but Lee. Those other players do exist, and they do play middle infield. Nothing about them is really "nuts." DJL44 and Hosken Bombo Disco 2

Martin and Miranda will be used for trades in the off season.

This is a good explainer article. He basically has to be up by about April 10th to qualify. I remember looking in to this when Zach Neto came but never actually counted the days. He would have 169 days and not qualify which would be a gigantic doh for the Angels if he had a chance at the ROY. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/mlb-prospect-promotion-incentive-rookie-year-cba/ja5ts8eaxcuv85xujnzriafb Vanimal46, FlyingFinn and glunn 3

What is not clear is that if he's top three MVP also is there another pick? That would be a triple powerball jackpot! Also correction on Neto, he came up on the deadline day and would qualify. I counted from the last day but there is a defined date. Hawkeye Bean Counter and glunn 2

Really weird considering it was just written this spring and we already knew there was no international draft like he talks about. My understanding, and according to the MLB.com article, is they have to be on the opening day roster, and be top 100 prospects to qualify. But the criteria is different in a number of different articles so I'm going to dig up the CBA and take a look. Will report back soon! glunn and FlyingFinn 2

There was a possibility of 3 had they added an international draft, but since they didn't it's just the 1. I believe anyone who was promoted early enough to qualify for the ROY bonus pick can earn a pick over the next 2 seasons (if they don't earn it for ROY) by finishing top 3 in Cy Young or MVP voting in their first 3 years. Even more motivation to make sure your elite guys are up and qualify!
Linus Verified Member Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 This is some fun news for a fan base that could use some fun. I would put him at third right now. He has the hands and the arm to be a great 3rd baseman. Lewis can play second or cf. glunn 1
chpettit19 Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 @Jocko87 and @FlyingFinn I couldn't find the exact answer in the CBA. Only real talk of the Rule 4 draft is centered around qualifying offers, and the international free agent signing pools. The talk about the ROY voting just explained that anyone placing first or second automatically receives a full year of service time. Vanimal46, Jocko87 and FlyingFinn 3

I just read though it as well and there is only one mention of a prospect promotion incentive selection and it's in the competitive balance picks section. Just states the prospect promotion pick is before competitive balance. No wonder reports vary. Odd that there isn't at least a memo attachment to describe it. chpettit19 1

Very weird that it's not spelled out pretty clearly (as far as lawyer talk goes at least) somewhere in there. Guess we'll just have to wait for Lee to win the ROY aware and find out then! 😀 Jocko87 1

KBJ1 Verified Member Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Doesn't our need for a RH OF bat with power scream Severino right now? I see no reason not to bring him up to the Saints. He'll, I'd dfa Gallo and put Severino in now. What's to lose? If he isn't quite ready, then send him to the Saints for seasoning. Hard to imagine he could do worse than what we have now. Solano can hold down 1B until Kiriloff returns.
