Blyleven2011 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Interesting but not surprised ... If the Yankees can afford to dfa 30 million , then the twins a mid market team can afford to dfa pagans 3 million plus salary ...
jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Hicks could still probably get a minor league contract and train as a closer. Guy's got a fantastic arm.
whosafraidofluigirussolo Verified Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 MLBTR reports $20M, but still. A chunk of change. Too bad; it can't have been fun for Hicks to struggle the way he has recently after finding his stride in New York for a few years. As much as I may not like the Yankees on the whole, I was kind of happy to see Hicks succeed after the Twins sold low on him.

Looking at Fangraphs, WAR/wRC+, 2017 and 2018 were very good seasons for Hicks, and that’s pretty much it. Also, looks like the Twins sold high, not low as they traded him after his 2 WAR 2015 season.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 I think it was a good move for the Twins to trade Aaron Hicks. But it was a really bad move to trade for John Ryan Murphy.
Linus Verified Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Would he be better than Garlick in the Garlick role? Superior defender but hitting has been bad. If he only faced lefties? His right handed swing was good but he was horrible from the left side.

I wouldn’t consider him superior to anyone right now. So bad that the Yanks put IKF in the outfield over him. Hard pass on Hicks.
mrtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Hicks is a Very Very good Golfer, and has all the cash he needs , wouldnt be surprised to see him on the Links, But not in a Twins Uniform

Garlick should be gone as soon as we take one of the guys off the IL. Castro, Wallner, and Julien all deserve to stay over Garlick. The only way Garlick should stay when we activate Polanco or Kepler is if Taylor goes on the IL. Even then, he should go so Lewis can come up Monday.
