Yes, when I saw he had a career BA .263, I was more than surprised.

He was one of the top three Short Stops the year he was with the Twin; for what ever reason his ability with the bat is what finally failed for him.

He was still an amazing Short Stop.

Alan Busenitz re-upped with the Reds. He pitched for the Twins in 2017-18 and then went to Japan. Busenitz pitched a few innings for the Reds last year and now has been signed back by Cincinnati on a minor league deal.

The Reds have been one of the more active teams this off-season. Will be interesting to see how some of those oddball signings pan out for them.

Like many other defense-first catchers, Sandy León always seems to find a job.

Leon was a handy backup catcher for us that one year. As you noted, he will always be able to find a team that needs his talents, even if he has to languish in AAA, waiting for that callup.

Dakota Chalmers, who sat out 2023, but was on the Twins 40-man roster in 2021, has signed with D-Backs. The Twins got him for Fernando Rodney. Speaking of Rodney, he is attempting to make a comeback at age 47. Last pitching for a major league organization in 2019, he has bounced around the indy and foreign scenes the last 4 years throwing 150+ innings in relief.

Troy Wolters, a depth catcher the Twins signed last season for St. Paul, has retired, but will join the Rockies in a coaching capacity.

Funny to see Gallo and Sano sign on the same day, especially since we've been waiting for Sano to sign somewhere for over a year now.

Incredible how Gallo can command that kind of money despite being a proven black hole at the plate. Analytics have gotten him paid quite well - and yes, I know he's a decent defender. But most teams have a guy at AAA who can field that well and also not be able to hit whatsoever.

He was not a black hole till the last six to eight weeks.

Gallo's OPS by month after April: May .654, June .674, July .567, August .718, and September .856, The September number is 2 hits in 9 AB, with both hits coming off a position player, his August numbers were greatly augmented by a 5-5 game in which he hit a homer off a position player. I would argue Gallo was a black hole commencing on or about May 1.

The Nationals sign Joey Gallo for much less than the Twins paid, but still a lot of money.

Maybe they figure he will get to face a lot of position player pitchers

It’s definitely a better move then signing their 3B to that 7 year 200+ million dollar deal

Aaron Hicks, who is owed a ton of money by the Yankees and could sign for major league minimum, signed with the Angels.

Thanks for that notice, I hadn't seen that posted anywhere else. The Angels could be interesting this year with Ron Washington as manager. Of course they still need a few more quality pitchers or they will miss the playoffs once again.
