Game Thread: Twins @ Angels 3:07 8/14/2022

Due to too much fun at the Saints game last night, today's game thread will be like a Chris Archer start...short and not overly sweet. 

After another frustrating loss in a game they should've won last night the Twins woke up today still 1.5 games out of first in the central and 1 game out of the final wild card spot. Plenty of season to go for the hometown boys to get things turned around and heading in the right direction, and that hopefully starts today!

Surprised to see Buxton in the line-up, couple that with Miranda starting and that means no Urshela. Cave for the current version of Kepler is probably a wash. At least Beckham isn't getting a Sunday/Getaway/Giveaway start....

You're wrong on both counts. Yes your thread is short but no resemblance of sweetness meaning pretty sour. Archer has been pitching around 5 inning, so length is OK and has pretty much given us an chance to win every time. So I expect the same today and very interested on how Leon handles Archer.

Imagine Sands will come in long relief, hope he'll perform the same as he did last time, Fulmer would probably close and if the line up shows up at all, we'll win the game.

I stopped watching in the middle of the 8th when the Twins were up 3-0.  I said to myself, ‘if they blow this one I don’t want to see it’.  Don’t blame me, I’m glad I didn’t see it.

For any of those inclined to dump on Archer, I submit this stat.

Short starts? Yes, but he’s held opposing hitters to an OPS of just .680

That’s better than league average and better than Mahle, Ryan, Bundy, Smeltzer, Ober or Winder.

Sonny Gray is the only Twins starter who has a better opponent OPS (.654)

Heck, our 100+ mph, short burst super reliever Duran is holding opposing hitters to an OPS of .619

If our most dominant reliever holds opponents to a .619 OPS, I am not inclined to be disappointed or critical of a starter who holds them to .680

He’s trended down recently. Here’s hoping it is a blip. Might be one of our better hopes for a dominant playoff pitcher (starter or bp)

Am I imagining things or is Buxton playing 3 games in a row??? Next Archer will pitch 6 innings of no hit ball and Roco will leave him in there..oh.. and just to complete this imaginary and implausible scenario..Pagan will pitch 1 just 1 no hit no walk inning...Ok back to what's actually happening..
