sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Bad ideas for game thread intros: 1. Spoonerisms (work it out for yourself. The least of it is the relative immunity Borrea and Cuxton from spoonerisms) 2. Shaggy dog stories. Take too long to tell, and too hot for the dogs. 3. Pitch puns. 440hz is a recent standard. And who plays High, Low, Jack, and the Game anymore? 4. Peanut Allergies. Charles Schulz not with standing. Is the Doctor in? Will Mr. Brown ever kick the football? 5. Johnny. Who remembers Short Circuit? And are there not better robotics examples more recent in fictiona nd real life? Canada Toronto: 0. Mitch White (R) P 1. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (R) LF 2. Vladimir Guerrero (R) 1B 3. Alejandro Kirk (R) DH 4. Teoscar Hernandez (R) RF 5. Bo Bichette (R) SS 6. Matt Chapman (R) 3B 7. Whit Merrifield (R) CF 8. Cavan Biggio (L) 2B 9. Nick Gordon (L) CF 8. Jake Cave (L) LF 9. Sandy Leon (S) C Anyway, go for it. Have a better idea than them.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 More bad ideas for game thread topics. 6. Meta humor. "Why did the Dad Joke cross the road?" 7. Free Anthony Slama 8. Least favorite Major League bathroom facilities 9. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time 10. A top ten list that arrives at ten running on fumes
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 León starting back-to-back. Is Sánchez nicked up? I suppose every catcher is by now. Good to see one of the walking wounded (Kepler) back.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I love spoonerisms. Especially in the hands of a master.
AussieG Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 León coming in hot, not a bad idea. Good chance for Garry to recharge

They are certainly a long running show.

And still in consideration if we play someone else. I went as far as considering our opponent's starting pitcher (hmmm) and mascot before nixing the idea...
Sean.h Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Glad to see kepler back! Though gordon, contreras, and even cave have exceeded expectations (perhaps cuz my expectations were very low)

I do hope Max can have some too.

Are you trying to sell something?

PDX Twin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Building on the intro: Does Kepler have an insignificant brother? A broken toe and a token bro?
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I have zero faith in the Twins pitching this one well, so we're going to throw a gem Blue Jays 7, Twins 4
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton are their own spoonerisms.
PDX Twin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Kirk must lead the league in BMI. He's a foot shorter than the umpire, and several inches wider.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Say, for no particular reason, I wondered about old Tigers opponent Buck Farmer and found that he's still in the majors with the Reds.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I love it when a pitcher gives up a couple homers and that is the only runs that scored, and he says in the interview post-game that he just had two mistakes. Funny how many meatballs, like the center center hanging meatball slider that Kirk just missed and struck out on wouldn't be a considered a "mistake" by Bundy..... but it sure was. It seems the Twins batters miss a lot of those "mistakes" that aren't credited.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Bundy wriggles out of the first inning jam. May he continue to survive today, by crook or by hook.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Bundy didn’t hit his spots in the first, but escaped with a single and walk. With his stuff, he really to hit those spots.
