Well, he just got through the heart of the order and he has 5/6/7 coming to the plate next, none of which are even hitting .200.

Plus, when building a starter up, don't you want to add 10-15% more pitches?

I don't think turtle costumes have pinkies

That's a very good point.  Rather astute observation.

Was that a hit for Palacios or an error on Baez?  I’m watching on mute for… reasons

Error

I agree he should, but how does he justify starting an inning at 83, but not the last start at 80?

He learned? Doubleheader? Depleted pen? Add 12-15 pitched per start?

Dunno

But I'd be surprised if Smeltzer doesn't start the bottom of this inning.

the last start was the bottom of the order averaging less pitches and inning against guys with similiar batting averages. Just questioning how Rocco justifies it.

80 was also the most pitches thrown by Smeltzer this season.  Perhaps they can push him a bit further this time.

Rocco sends Devin out for another inning, right?

I vote he goes out for the 7th, 8th and 9th and goes the first time through the order in game 2.

Kepler! Rocco needs to let Smeltzer throw until he gets himself into trouble at this point. Not sense to pull him for any other reason, even if it means he throws 110 pitches to get us through 9 innings.

The Tigers are terrible.

They are, and I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I always liked Robbie Grossman. Whenever we play the Tigers the tv & radio guys always say he's a favorite amongst former players.

Isn't this what hurt the Twins yesterday, errors and wild pitches/passed balls?.?...

Yeah, Sanchez looked a little stone-handed yesterday

Completely agree, but so far he has went 77, 74, 80, so I would assume 83 would be enough, but fingers crossed they push him further.

Yeah, it's not fun to watch even when it's the other team.*

*except when things go completely upside down and the situation turns hilarious

hilarious baseball > sloppy baseball

Apologies for the math.

Depends on how much they want or even if they want to build him up more.  Given the score, I hope they give him a few more batters at least.

Six man rotation is a better option.

Each start for Archer since his second has been worse.  He would be better as a bridge during short starts.  Better than Thielbar or Duffy? 2 inning guy maybe?

Is anybody still unconvinced about Devin Smeltzer? He belongs to an uncommon category of MLB pitcher: a finesse pitcher that can dominate. Please Twins FO, keep this guy in the starting rotation!

I wouldn't be against that, as it keeps him on the roster. As we've seen in the past week, starting pitchers with a pulse should not be given away unless absolutely necessary.
