Three 2 strike homers. Hmmmm

Better than Maeda who couldn't break a pane of glass for two reason...no velocity...he would probably miss the window alltogether.

Is there anything at all to like about this current club? They just make me angry

Yes, the young position players, Cruz & Berrios....You can have the rest.

I like the team.  I believe they try and do the best they can, most of the time.  I don't believe they try to not perform.  They just want to play ball.  On the other hand, I despise the leadership and their rhetoric.

Gladden: Nobody warming in the bullpen yet.

[ camera cuts to Shoemaker warming in the bullpen ]

Gladden has a point there.

Better than a delay of the locust variety?

I have zero statistical information to back this up and it could be observation bias but the Twins always seem to be shifted where the ball ain't this season.

I think the pitchers have alot to do with that too

I believe last night, the shift saved one hit and cost about 4-5

This is knows as visual bias: that is, seeing something in a repetitive manner, sans data processing, in turn inducing a natural idea: Example: for the professional hitter, seeing the entire infield defense on one side or the other of 2nd, a thought might occur that it would be best to try to hit the ball to the other side of the field. Modern algorithms have difficulty with this simple but apparently efficient way of dealing with the famed infield shift.

Why is Rortvedt catching and not Astudillo, his fantastic hitting ability?

I agree but there's a lot of controversy over the efficacy of the infield shift against RHB*. There's a substantial amount of data that suggests it's actually more harmful than useful, yet *very* smart teams like the Dodgers still use it extensively.

*There's little to no doubt the infield shift is very effective against LHB

It works for the Dodgers as they have a MLB pitching staff

I can already foresee what's going to happen the next couple weeks - we see more "trade/fire everyone" articles the next couple days as the White Sox remind us that we're bad, but then we beat up on the Tigers and we see more "OMG guys, we're only 13 games out of first, we can do this!" posts.

I actually feel bad for shoemaker. Not his fault he’s still here

No, but it's a friendly reminder to the FO what they created
