sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 The "Waiting for Gobot" Game Thread covering the Twins vs As 3:05pm cdt 5/15/2021 ad (by Bectimus Sam) Setting: A suburban front lawn, a lone tree still waking up from the winter. In the background, neighbor is having a yard sale with the usual garage cruft: tattered clothes, old semi-functional tools, a dubious looking bike or two, fishing poles, tackle boxes, you know the like. Only thing eye catching is a bin of "vintage" 80's toys, dolls ("action" figures) and such. An ol' fart comes out and hangs a placard on the tree reading: 3:05pm Oakland 0. Cole Irvin ( L) P 1. Mark Canha (R ) LF 2. Seth Brown ( L) DH 3. Ramon Laureano (R ) CF 4. Matt Olson ( L) 1B 5. Matt Chapman (R ) 3B 6. Stephen Piscotty (R ) RF 7. Chad Pinder (R ) SS 8. Tony Kemp ( L) 2B 9. Aramis Garcia (R ) C Minnesota 0. Jose Berrios (R ) P 1. Kyle Garlick (R ) RF 2. Josh Donaldson (R ) 3B 3. Nelson Cruz (R ) DH 4. Mitch Garver (R ) C 5. Jorge Polanco ( S ) 2B 6. Rob Refsnyder (R ) LF 7. Miguel Sano (R ) 1B 8. Max Kepler ( L) CF 9. Andrelton Simmons (R ) SS an occasional passer-by looks more closely at it, and as the time approaches, a few more gather by the tree and start to chat, one with an ominous looking "boom" box, clearly set to WCCO... and this discussion ensues...
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted May 15, 2021 Author Posted May 15, 2021 Gosh darn it all, we haven't been playing so good of late, but we got all this talent that did so well. But i hear tell there's just one more piece to the puzzle we're waitin' on.... I didn't quite catch the name, but it sounded a lot like "Gobot" or something....

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Berios just isn't all that good. Hasn't been, isn't, and most likely won't ever be.

RickOShea Verified Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 The Twins pitching strategy is so obvious. Get ahead of the count 0-2 or 1-2, then throw 3 waste pitches that aren't even close to temp[ting a hitter to swing. Then the hitter with a 3-2 count, waits for the center cut pitch. An idiot could figure it out. Obviously, not Rocco, Wes, or even our pitchers have a clue.

denarded Verified Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Man, what am I doing watching this? I have twenty things I should get done by Monday, and yet I'm going to watch this slow death march and dive into tomorrows game. Apparently I'm a sadist or a masochist minus anything sexual. Why add pleasure to pain for the next 3 hours?

Yes, I agree Chief. All of the ace talk and his being referred to as an All-Star really overstate what he has accomplished. He's been slightly above average in his career (104 ERA+).
RickOShea Verified Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 The Cave injury is a real conundrum. While I hate to see someone hurt, especially a Twin, I do welcome his vacant spot on the roster.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Another opportunity to come back from a more than one run deficit. How is that for positive thinking?
RickOShea Verified Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 WTF is Pujols gonna do for the Dodgers?

tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Cave didn't hurt the Twins too much because he really didn't touch the ball very much. Sorry to see Cave hurt and I hope he recovers and plays MLB again. Garver does hurt the Twins. He is a very poor catcher and really struggles to hit. A catcher impacts the game more than a shortstop or centerfielder. Butera is still playing because he can catch. Cleveland uses catchers behind the plate. Right now, Rortveldt is the only catcher on the team. I would love to see Garver recover and hit 35 homeruns but not while catching.

Let me inform you: That ERA+ number is dragged down by some poor rookie season stats. In fact, while Berrios may have a career 104 ERA+, he has never had an ERA+ that low in any season he has ever pitched. Except his rookie season.
tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Berrios is good, enough said. He won't throw shutouts very often, but does usually give the team a shot. He should not be throwing to 1B with an inflexible Sano there and we just saw that Refsnyder is not an excellent outfielder (frozen by a linedrive that was 3-4 steps in front of him. Twins need to hit.
