Twins just aren't going to be able to compete with elite teams with this rotation. They really don't have a dependable guy to turn to in a big game.

I haven't been keeping actual track, but is Rosario pulling a bunch of ground balls for easy outs, lately?

Seems that way . . . unless they pitch him three feet outside, in which case he singles to left.

I'm getting tired of watching balls go through the shift all of the time. I get it there are some hitters that are straight pull hitters, but idk if it's the twins lack of ability to be good fielder's or what. I mean they shift Hunter Dozier and then Berrios pitches him away, what do they expect? I mean that was a weak ground ball right to where a 2nd baseman should have been. Plus many balls hit into the shift would have been caught anyway. I'm just getting really tired of watching stupid hits get through these crazy shifted infields.

I wonder if some cat-and-mouse game playing goes on. The batter can see the shift, so the natural assumption will be pitches on the inside - so try to cross him up with something away. Trouble is, if he's not fooled, the BABIP goes up to about .800.

Berrios gave up one good hit. Solers hit was smoked, but Merrifield had a flair and Dozier's was a weak ground ball to the 2nd baseman, oh I guess we don't have a 2nd baseman, we play 2 shortstops.

I'm sure that's more or less instinctual, but pitchers gotta keep their throwing hand out of the way. How would you practice that though, to overcome the natural inclination to reach out and catch a ball hit toward you?

I'm sure that's more or less instinctual,

Personally, from my playing days, there is no way I could have stopped myself from reaching out for the ball. Happens too quick, instinct takes over.

Not a great career move by Singer there.

Yeah, it's perversely comforting that our guys don't have a monopoly on dumbass plays. Maybe it reflects so short a time in the minors, but even the Florida college program must have taught pitchers not to stick the meat-hand out there.

Singer grabs at the batted ball with his throwing hand...

I remember being at a concert many years ago. I think it was Leo Kottke. The performer said that when he realized he was becoming a professional musician he taught himself not to grab at stuff as a reflex.

Yeah, but I'll still call you a dumbass for doing it. :)

(My reflexes were much too slow to allow me to attempt that play.)

Kind of like when George costanza was a hand model
