So, Littel and Odorizzi going to the IL? Seems likely, particularly for Littel. Who's next up? Maybe Sunday's starter?

If they are on the road is the call up supposed to be someone on the 5 person taxi squad that travels with them? I wonder who is in that group of 5 for this trip.

"Depth" or not, this team needs to find another starter or two somewhere. Hopefully one of those is in the next wave of transactions since they're down to Maeda, Dobnak and Berrios, with Hill basically a glorified opener at this point.

I'm just going to go with Gordon not counting towards the 40 man even though he is listed, since a 40 man spot would be needed for Coluombe even with Bailey going on the 45 day IL.

Gotta agree because we must be past the time allowed to DFA someone and work a trade, etc.  Isn't Bailey also listed on the 40-man even though he is on the 45-day IL? So listing Gordon would be consistent.

Today the Twins DFAd LHP Danny Coulombe and selected the contract of RHP Juan Minaya.  

 

Also, Lewis Thorpe is the 29th player for today. 

They really like to run through these AAAA relievers... Minaya has had some good strikeout numbers in the past, but has allowed too many baserunners.

 

I'm just hoping Duran gets a shot soon; he's using up an option this year and is on the 40 man, so I don't see what's holding him back from making a couple spot starts.

Pineda is being activated for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, so a 28 man move and a 40 man move will need to be made.

Minaya was DFA'd. Also Wade, Jr was sent to ST Paul to make room for Buxton.

I liked Vargas. Will be a little sad to see him go.

 

But it'll be nice to see what Donaldson brings to the game tonight.

 

Seems like a guy who could clear and be outrighted, maybe.

By chance do you know how many teams passed on Vargas when the Twins claimed him?

 

My assumption was that he wasn't put on waivers, just DFAd... Team has ten days to figure out what to do next, put him on waivers, trade him, put him back on their roster).

Seth, I don't quite understand the Wade move...is he just here to be a late innings replacement over Rooker, as we have seen his defense struggle?

 

Rocco said that they wanted to add another position player. With Arraez out for a little while, Donaldson and Buxton still won't be playing every day, they wanted more options. Gonzalez can play several positions, so that allows them to move him around and still make sure they're taking care of guys as well. 

 

And yes, having that player also allows them to do things like have defensive replacements and such.

Littell was activated today and optioned. I wonder if Stashak will be ready soon.

Littll is still so young. I was happy when he became a viable bullpen arm last season. Will be interesting to see if he can come abck equally as strong.

 

Stashak is that secret darkhorse relief pitcher you love finding and hope you can exploit for a few years, and that he develoops to become a longterm asset.
