Let's face it. Target may be a wonderful "venue" on a perfect late spring or summer day. But what does it do for an actual home field advantage? Absolutely nothing. What does it get the Twins to start the 2020 season? A 7 game west coast road trip after spending the spring in FL. Maybe Twins should join the Cactus League.

Why is it necessarily a disadvantage to start the season on the road? It seems like a wash to me. Early season baseball is typically miserable weather-wise at Target Field so I am in favor of delaying the Twins home opener as long as possible.

With the season starting March 26 it's likely a good idea not to start at home. imo baseball in MN before April 10 is not a good idea.

Baseball shouldn't be played in a snow storm. Think about standing in the batter's box waiting for that 100mph fastball coming from a pitcher who can't feel the ball. Or be reasonably certain of where it is really going to go.

Why do you put venue in quotes? Is the implication that it's not actually a venue?

My favorite regular season game ever at Target Field was the first half of a day night double header caused by a snow storm the night before. Schools got cancelled and the clean up was still under way the next day when a noon home game was announced. I convinced a buddy of mine to go scalp some tickets with me. We sat a few rows behind third base on a beautiful spring day oblivious to the snow plowing still underway outside. Oswaldo Arcia hit a home run (I believe his career first) and my wife recorded the game at home. When we got home, she showed us the video of him crossing home plate with us cheering in the stands behind him. It was a great day.

 

All that to say, I Love Target Field. Baseball was meant to be outside. If there is no home advantage, that’s probably more a fault of fans that sit on their hands too much, not the ball park.

I couldn't disagree more. It's plenty cold in New York, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, etc....

 

Do not put a roof on it.

I'm more disappointed with the 6-game road-trip to end the season.
