The Postseason Roster

I looked for a thread on this after seeing a twitter post showing the team boarding their flight to New York. I believe I saw Graterol, but does anyone have a hunch on whether Arraez, Kepler, and Gonzalez are ready?

Any insiders know who is going to be on the mound game one?

I thought Game 1 was Berrios, I thought that was already a given. As for the rest of the roster, I thought I read elsewhere that the ALDS roster didn't need to be set until 10am Friday ... so I'm sure they brought extras with them who will be around but not on the roster? Possibly?

And I think they will wait until the last minute to set the roster for the ALDS because of injuries, giving everyone every possible minute to be ready.

Yes, they can and should wait to set the roster. From reports I’ve read Kepler and Marwin should be ready, Arraez is up in the air, and Adrianza likely will not be on the roster for the Yankee series.

If that is so, the tough decisions will be the pitchers and whether Wade or Astudillo might be shoehorned in.

Yeah, they haven't announced anything yet. Rocco said they'll wait until the last minute.

I looked at their airplane boarding pictures on Twitter/Instagram, etc., and tried to figure things out, but even then, they will be bringing a few extra taxi-squad types to New York. So even that doesn't mean everything.

I wish the Twins could have found a way to get Gonzalez and Kepler some AFL ABs prior to the playoffs.

Sounds like the new AFL rules are that anyone under contract is eligible to participate, I think they changed that rule so as to make it easier for Rookie League and A ball players to go instead of how it's traditionally mostly AA and AAAers. And with the new September AFL schedule, it would have worked out great for the Twins.

Of course the rest of the league would have hated it and changed the rule immediately for next year, assuming I actually have the loophole correct. Which I probably don't.

Im pretty sure you can travel with the team and not be on the roster... so I wouldn't read too much into Graterol being in the photos... I'm not quite sure what the rules are with injuries, but if someone gets hurt, I'd think you can use one of those guys the next game as well.

Where's sypcake? I guarantee you he'll know... :)

How does that work for the taxi squad guys?  Where do they end up sitting during the game?

Usually in the back seat.

Unless there's a crowd, then somebody has to sit up front with the driver.

This is what I found:

Teams submit a 25-man roster prior to each round of the postseason comprised of postseason-eligible players. A club may request permission from the Commissioner's Office to replace a player who is injured during the course of a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the subsequent round, if there is one. A pitcher may be replaced only by another pitcher, and a position player only by another position player.

Teams carry extra players throughout the postseason in the event of injuries, and those players, as well as players on the injured list, can be in the dugout during games, within reason.

Even better than that: the Twins have a bunch of pitchers, many of whom will not make the postseason roster.

Have them pitch at game speed to some of the injured guys.

I wonder if that's a thing MLB teams do? It makes a lot of sense.

Dobnak would likely need to throw a sim game to stay in routine anyway. He may have already done so depending on when Rocco plans for him to pitch. I thought I read somewhere that both were supposed to see live pitching Tuesday, but couldn’t because of the rain. They probably did it yesterday.
