Dang nabbit. Hurts losing Buxton for this pennant stretch. Could Pineda being put on the IL just to give him a rest before the final stretch of the season and playoffs?

That last game in Miami hurt in a few ways.

It could be Cave back down.

I have a feeling that they will need all the arms they can get in the pen the next few weeks.

Gonzalez will start in RF and Adrianza and Arraez have experience in the corners. Cave on the bench may not be as valuable as that last arm in the pen.

If they continue to rotate the last couple guys in the pen, I see no reason why they can’t get along with 7. Of course, that means Trevor May has to actually throw more than one pitch per week.

Wow. Who takes Pineda's spot in the rotation?

The starter that we wisely traded for at the deadline....oh wait...check that...

we are going to choose from the AAA Smorgasbord....

You say tomato, I say rotten tomato......

Yes. Twins have been doing this all season for just about everyone except Polanco. I'm sure he's fine, club just wants to give the guy a break for a couple of turns in the rotation.

The less pitches May has thrown his last 2 appearances,

>>>checks May's game log one more time<<<,

the better the results...

Obvious Solution:

Bullpen games!

Did anyone see how Buck hurt his left shoulder? Did he plant it into the wall in Miami on Thursday?

With the injured list being at 10 days and with players only being required to spend 10 days in the minors before being recalled (except in case of injury) it's almost like having a 40-man active roster. Every team takes advantage of this, especially with pitchers. Next year the rules are changing so it will be more difficult to shuttle players from AAA. The injured list is going back to 15 days and pitchers will have to spend 15 days in the minors before being recalled (again, except in case of injury). The active roster will be at 26 next year. I'm sure the intent was to reduce the shuttling of pitchers between AAA and the majors, but teams that have good pitching depth at AAA will still be shuttling pitchers just as often.

That is ideal. However the 10 days will get in the way if the Braves or Indians push the bullpen.

Thorpe cannot he recalled for 10 days. If Stashak is sent down on Tuesday he can’t return. Poppen can’t be recalled right now. If on Tuesday they get a short start from Smeltzer and the bullpen is taxed and they need a few arms I guess they can send down Littell or Duffey and bring up Stewart. Now one of them is stuck in AAA for 10 days.

I think keeping Stashak is more valuable than sitting Cave on the bench.

It's not just the Twins. All teams do it. And with the injured list at 10 days Pineda is really only missing one start.

Do note that the 10 days can be waived when another player is put on the IL. I wouldn’t be surprised if a reliever gets put on the IL to get one of the names you mentioned back up earlier.

Actually 2 starts. Even if they make his DL placement retroactive to yesterday, Pineda's turn will come up on day 5 and day 10 of his DL stint. (Our next off day isn't until day 11, so we'll need two additional starters before Pineda is eligible to return.)

If the Twins need a long man that frequently, it won’t really matter will it? If you need more than four long relievers in a ten day stretch, you have big problems.

Our only MLB reliever to go on the DL this season would seem to be Mejia, and in hindsight that seems legit with how long he was sidelined. I wouldn't expect them to start phantom DL'ing guys now, just to keep Cave around.

If anything, I think they could option Cave on Tuesday with the plan to recall him if another outfielder went on the DL.

I'm surprised this wasn't autocorrected to say, the Ace Syndergaard...  :)

is he becoming a ROOGY? I wonder if he can warm up quick and get you that one emergency out...

Ahhh, I seeee... preparing for the NEW Specialist role when the rosters go to 26 in 2020? (If so, I suspect he might be looking at a pay cut :o )

what about the three batter minimum? Did that get passed too and ruin my plan of an all reliever 40 man roster?

Ha! I think that proposal is still on the table... but hasn't been finalized for certain?

Good Lord, they have to think this through.... the games will be averaging close to 4 hours with 14 man pitching staffs and all kinds on new "Specialists" coming out of their ears.

I thought they went to a 26 man roster but only 13 could be pitchers? I htink I saw that in some article about the rise of the position player who could pitch as now being valuable.

I hope that proposal comes to fruition. I still think Drew Butera would have been a better option for this bullpen- and most of the pens of the last decade- than many of the arms that have dragged out there.

I like Thorpe on the MLB roster, but they need to stretch him back out. Not enough starting depth and only he and Smeltzer should be considered in my opinion.

It would be just one extra day of rest.

All they have to do is list one pitcher as an outfielder, and say that he's an emergency pitcher when he's brought in.
