Did someone leave the stove on?? Because it's HEATING UP!

Prediction: Bailey will look adequate when he pitches in Oakland, and will be dreadful on the road.

Just eight days left and we’ve had what, 3 trades in July? Methinks the final two days are going to be nuts, with tons of trades getting pulled off.

Somewhat less than a normal year so far.

Strange, because of the rule change for August waiver claims, this year seemingly should be well above normal year activity, right?

That was the prediction of some. I wasn't so sure. :)

August trades were of lesser-quality players, pretty much by definition (with the rare exception of Verlander). Guys like Neal Cotts, or Fernando Rodney last year. I guess the theory of some was that since teams can't wait until August to move those guys anymore, they'd move them earlier.

Problem is, nobody really wanted those guys until August, after the July 31st deadline had passed and the better players were all sorted out. Teams selling the 2019 version of Neal Cotts can't simply leapfrog the good reliever trade candidates unless someone wants to buy Neal Cotts and NOT buy the good relievers. (Because no one is really interested in acquiring Cotts and then replacing him a few weeks later.)

12:02pm: The Dodgers stood out as the likely “frontrunners” from the start, tweets Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com. However, he adds that the Nationals and Phillies both still have Diekman on their radar.

11:53am: The Royals “could be getting closer” to a trade involving left-handed reliever Jake Diekman, tweets Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Both the Braves and Dodgers have been showing strong interest in the southpaw, he adds.

It appears we are getting close to a trade... finally!

): Given Diekman's 1.122 OPS allowed against the Twins in 6 appearances, the Royals almost automatically become a tougher opponent down the stretch. Meanwhile, we can look forward to facing him in the WS!

Ha, well my complete dis-interest in Diekman stems from the fact that I probably watched most if not all of those appearances. So I was relieved that it was the Dodgers, Phillies and Nationals tied to him, not my Twins.

But now that you put it that way.....

I read yesterday San Francisco wasn't selling? Please advise.

Holland had already been DFAd by the Giants, so trading him means nothing in terms of SF dealing other pieces.

Maybe its more of an addition by subtraction for the Giants. Holland's numbers don't look all that good this year, do they?

Edit: I'm dumb. Did not realize he was DFA'd

He won't pitch.  The Cubs just want him to keep morale up in the clubhouse with his Harry Caray impressions.

The Cubs pen is really bad. Collins was their 2nd lefty and they already cut bait with Brian Duensing. Holland is there to pitch.

If the Twins made this move, they'd probably rightly be ridiculed. With so many other free agent relievers available for actual prospects, this kind of makes me think the Cubs might actually stand pat as I've seen others mention.

Wait..........Duensing is available? Pick him up and use him as a throw in for Syndergaard!

Wasn't it Duensing that everyone wanted to use when he was a part of the Twins as trade bait?

Didn't realize he was DFA'd either. Whoops!

My grandma would always send me cash considerations.

Lucky! I got a P*TBNL

I got international bonus pool space, which I could never use because I had no allowance. I hate you, Grandma! Hate. You.

Josh Donaldson was another one. Players that are currently hurt are a big reason for the August 31 deadline in the past. We'll see if the one deadline is moved back.

'Tis the Braves 2019-2020 international season.

I love reading trade proposals that include IFA money from the Braves. Tells me exactly which writers I shouldn't read again.

Re Holland. How do trading cash considerations for cash considerations work?

"I'll give you $100k in twenties in exchange for $150k in fifties"?
