HAPPY STEPHEN GONSALVES DAY!!!!

 

Gonsalves is 12-3 with a 2.76 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 9.0 K/9 between Rochester (100 1/3 IP) and Chattanooga (20 1/3 IP) this season. Opposing batters have hit just .184 with a .586 OPS off him. Gonsalves' control has been spotty, as evidence by his career-worst 4.8 BB/9, but he's been much improved in that department of late, giving up just nine walks over his last 30 1/3 IP (2.67 BB/9).

 

The White Sox are hitting .239/.302/.388 (.691 OPS) against left-handed pitchers this season. That’s surprisingly low, considering three of their most dangerous hitters – Jose Abreu, Matt Davidson and Avisail Garcia – are all lefty killers. Giolito his having a rough first season in the majors. He leads the league in earned runs, walks and hit batsmen.

It caught me by surprise too! I think I looked in three different locations to confirm the start time when I heard that Gonsalves was starting. Craziness of a make-up game I guess.

I imagine they made it earlier because both teams travel tonight. Granted, a relatively short trip. That said, rain is forecast from about 2 until 6 or 7. So, they may end up with a slightly delayed start.

Yup, they did that earlier this season too with a makeup game against Seattle I think it was.

Radar is showing spotty showers in and around Minneapolis. Any eyes confirm?

 

Looks like it will move out sooner than expected though. I wouldn’t anticipate weather to be a factor.

All that rebuilding has gotta count for something.

 

Though i must confess misreading Giolito as gelato and salivating a little bit... Could be a good game.

The radar shows that the weather pattern is weird. The rain is moving from northeast to southwest.

I know, but it's been that way all day. Aside from a few spots of light rain, it hasn't done anything all day.

I could get into very technical meteorologic jargon, but basically it’s a storm that’s spinning counter-clockwise and Minneapolis is at the northern edge of it. Very common.

They are letting Giolito take his lumps this year.  Probably a good thing.  I imagine he'll end up pretty good.
