Often when I watch a game, I check other teams players to see when and by whom they were drafted. Saw Taillon was a 2nd overall, and he looks like it today. Bell was another I was wondering about, and saw he was 1st pick of round 2 in 2011.

The rabbit hole led me to the Twins 2nd rounder that year, Madison Boer, then the rest of the 2011 class. There may be a worse class overall, but this one is truly awful: Headed by just released Levi Michael, Travis Harrison, Travis Boyd, Boer...etc. 3innings pitched of Jason Wheeler were all the Twins got out of it.

40th rounder Kyle Barraclough (pronounced Bear Claw)didn't sign, got taken by by St. Louis in the 7th in 2012, and has made a career in Miami.

Justin Verlander may be a cyborg sent to Earth to throw 97 MPH heaters and 88 MPH sliders. 2,500+ MLB innings and no signs of slowing down.

and the Orioles touch him up for 4 runs, yes those Orioles, lol

Glad to see Shohei Ohtani get his first HR, and I'm also glad the unwritten rule to ignore him was in effect as he came back to the dugout.

I LOLed out loud, laughing audibly, watching the dugout (non-)reaction plus the way he figured it out.

Well then, that person was wrong.

Or they were just using hindsight to find a silver lining.

Which actually seems like one of the few cases where using hindsight is at least modestly admirable.

Blackmon signed a nine figure deal into his mid to late thirties. It appears those predicting long term deals were dead may be incorrect.

Surely there will be more. But the Rockies are one of those teams that make three head scratching moves for every one non-awful move.

Blackmon's contract breakdown:

2018: $12 million + $2 million signing bonus

2019-2021: $21 million

2022: $21 million Player Option;

2023: $10 million Player Option, subject to various bonuses and escalators.

Shohei Ohtani appears to be the real deal, folks. Three home runs this week, gets his second start on Sunday. Haven’t watched him pitch yet, but that swing is glorious. All big flies have been 400 footers past the center field fence. Hotchie motchie!

What does Joe Charboneau and Bob Hamelin have in common.  Give scouting some time. They will figure out what they can do with Ohtani

That Rendon ejection today was pretty ridiculous.  I hope the Nationals pursue that with the league office.

Yeah, Rendon didn’t say a word.

Yeah, Rendon didn’t say a word.

Had to have been some prior buildup. Rendon was called out on strikes in the first inning, too; I didn't find video of that. The bat toss by itself is borderline, but no ump likes to be shown up.

OTOH that strike-three pitch when the ejection occurred looked pretty low. If the umpire is calling it that way to punish the batter for griping in the first inning, in effect daring him to say a word, well, I don't support that kind of umpiring.

This is an inexcusable way to lose a baseball game.

Wait, the batter is permitted to run to first base immediately on a pop-up? This changes everything! :)

Watching Ohtani pitch today. He is ridiculously awesome. And he has had about seven obvious strikes get called ball.

So far, 65 pitches, 5 IP, 10 Ks, no basewalkers allowed.

Wowza, JT Chargois v. Buster Posey with the game on the line.

Posey wins, 1-1 bottom of 8. Filthy pitch as well.

Still, LA likes/trusts the cajun.

edit, doubleplay on the next guy, and JT out.

Hmm, miss that guy.

Alex Cobb has gotten knocked around (and that's putting it lightly) in his first two starts.  Did signing late lead, at least in part, to such results?
