Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Sorry I didn't wanna start a new thread, but I would like a general baseball thread, not just a forum. I wanted to post, watching MLB, that SF had signed Longoria AND McCutcheon. Missed that. Not thread worthy, but would like a low-impact thread to post such tidbits. Perhaps it exists already, but didn't see one in my initial look.
ashbury Verified Member Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 This kind of thing has been brought up before, and it never seems to get traction. I confess to being unsure what is really wanted. When you say General Baseball do you mean MLB, or would topics like the St Paul Saints be included? A MLB-only Transactions thread? If so, how do people comment on an interesting transaction, without a single thread getting all tangled up with clutter if the discussion becomes heated? Other things MLB-related besides transactions probably are of interest too, so how do they fit into a single thread?

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Somehow I missed this over the spring but Jose De Leon had TJS in the middle of March. Dodged a real bullet there. Holy crap, that guy is never going to pitch.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Here was the Longoria move mentioned in that thread: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/27809-2017-18-non-twins-mlb-off-season-transactions-thread/?p=702429 McCutcheon was post #73. And De Leon was also discussed in that same thread. So, I guess that's what you were looking for? Yes? No?
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 Thanks Carole, Those signings were just an example - not worthy of a thread of its own, but of interest. The couple other sports forums I visit and post have such threads: a place to post general, non-team specific stuff not really thread-worthy but of temporary interest.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Aaron Hicks, injured.... The win loss stat shows it's stupidity in LA, again.

But if someone wants to start their own thread on a specific thing, they are welcome to it. Threads like the one you suggest is good, but sometimes they get long and there are some who'd rather not wade through it all. So, we have both. A general thread and topic threads.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Josh Donaldson is dealing with a bit of dead arm right now... Could be an interesting story in his contract year.
Brandon Verified Member Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 There is a whole non twins baseball section at the top of the page or in the forum section there is a link as well to post non twins transactions and such.

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Ohtani looked pretty good today! What a difference from spring training...
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Remember when people here were glad the twins dodged the bullet of signing a 23 year old, with elite stuff?
bird Verified Member Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Remember when people here were glad the twins dodged the bullet of signing a 23 year old, with elite stuff? No
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 NoYou'd be surprised, then. He's going to be very good over the next few years.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Remember when people here were glad the twins dodged the bullet of signing a 23 year old, with elite stuff? For the money involved, did anyone seriously have this opinion? Sure, there were differences of opinion about how Ohtani might shake out against MLB hitting but for the price, one would have to be insane to think it wasn't worth a shot at the guy.

Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted April 2, 2018 Author Posted April 2, 2018 Fortunately the Twins have their own 23 year old with pretty electric stuff.
jimmer Verified Member Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Fortunately the Twins have their own 23 year old with pretty electric stuff. And teams are limited to one each of that type of pitcher...

Is there some other reference you have in mind? Why conflate two pitchers?
big dog Verified Member Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Ohtani looked pretty good today! What a difference from spring training...I was reading a story (SI baseball issue, I believe) about the Yankees going after Stanton when they decided they had no shot at Ohtani. The story claimed that Cashman "knew" that Ohtani wouldn't sign with any team that was in a city east of the Mississippi (so not Minneapolis, barely) or that trained in Florida (dang). I don't remember ever hearing that before. Was that a common understanding that I missed?
big dog Verified Member Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 And what's he got against the Mississippi River, anyway??
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Wasn't "dodging a bullet" right here in this thread, but regarding Jose De Leon? Is there some other reference you have in mind? Why conflate two pitchers? Nope, it was 100% Ohtani. I even argued with the person. I'm not conflating them at all. It really doesn't matter, Ohtani is going to be great, everyone knows this, even if they for some reason don't want to believe it. I hope he is. It's good for baseball to have great players.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Gerrit Cole was dominant in his first start with Houston. 7 IP - 2 H - 1 ER - 3 BB - 11 K He was my man crush all winter once it was known he was available for trade.

Ya, trading McCucthen probably doesn't matter, but Cole? Ouch. Houston looks good.
