The Twins will not make the wild card this year

I think we'll win the Central, too. Cleveland has had two incredibly rough postseasons where they lost when they shouldn't have. That'll take a toll. They've also been pretty healthy in the rotation for the most part. That's probably just dumb luck. And they lost Santana. I just think this will be a let down season for them where they end up struggling to finish above .500.

Are you excluding the very real possibility that they could make the playoffs and NOT get swept?

The two responses to my message are strange.

The point is the Twins need to do more than the minimum to get to the playoffs. There's more to the postseason than that!

So far this year they are on the right track. Let's see what they do at the trade deadline.

I think you're selling Cleveland a little short. Carrasco and Salazar were both out for an entire postseason and they still made a WS run. Bauer sliced his finger open during the ALCS and missing time too. IMO that isn't dumb luck, it's horrible timing. They've been one of the best teams in the AL for years now, and I don't think swapping Alonso for Santana suddenly swings the pendulum.

So much has to go wrong for Cleveland, and damn near everything has to work out perfectly for the Twins if there's even going to be a battle for the division title.

I suspect the thought has more to do with Buxton's speed making up for less than stellar route running. I can buy that to an extent. Even guys like Hunter had to adjust as they got older. I haven't seen enough of Buxton to make a definitive call there myself to be honest. With Buck though, I'm more concerned about the CF wall and other outfielders.

Especially when they get to Wrigley ... there ain't nothin' behind that ivy ... it's solid brick ... and ivy is not padding ..

But I'm excited for the season, and right now, they are WS champions (until they aren't) :)

I'm very optimistic on the Twins. I think they'll win 90 games and nab a Wildcard spot. But the Indians are an elite level team. They don't have a weakness and their pitching is on another level compared to the Twins. I think they'll win 100 games again.

Funny headline but, once you declare them the likely division winners, I would have been happy to see a comparison point-by-point to the Indians, who haven't gone away. I too think they have a shot at a special year -- if all goes well. I'm encouraged by the trades and free agent signings, by the depth in the high minors, by the clubhouse camaraderie that's been reported, by the many one-year or final-year-of-contract players who seem to have a do-or-die attitude because they sense it can happen and because they need to play for their next contract, and by the sense of duende that suffuses the team from its front office to its backups. Duende, from Spanish, is a contraction of duen de casa, from dueño de casa or ‘owner of the house,' and has everything to do with inspiration, passion, and spirit. That is, it's the intangible sense of destiny. It makes the implausible possible. (Of course, I should add that the Vikings thought they had it after their last second win over the Saints, but then, against the Eagles, the duende became something else entirely.) I do think it's possible, and I agree with you that we should shoot for the division, not the wild card.

Trout is a once in a generation player.  He could very well be the best player who has played in many if not most of our lifetimes. He's certainly very much in the conversation.

Let's let Buxton be Buxton and not put that kind of pressure on him.

Okay, okay.  How about this: "Is this the year Buxton becomes Andrew McCutcheon in his prime"?  How's that for a more realistic hope?

he can be way better than Cutch.

How bout Eric Davis? A truly awesome player with HOF talent but couldn't stop getting hurt. So maybe Eric Davis minus the DL stints ;-)

Maybe the next Jim Edmonds. Who should be in the HOF but instead, for reasons passing understanding, got bounced right off the ballot after one shot.

Having grown up in Cleveland, let's just say I don't have a lot of respect for Cleveland fans... I'm quite happy if they blow it again.

That said, please don't overuse the Report button either. It seems like this post's title was meant for a humorous effect (since the writer explained the joke in the first sentence) and so as to underline his actual point, rather than for some kind of malicious purpose. It would be like if I said the headline isn't funny... it's hilarious! :) With regard to clickbait, I think most readers can usually separate the reputation of the site from the views of an individual poster. I wouldn't want to see a ton of that kind of thing here, as any joke can be run into the ground, but this instance passes muster for me. Had you clicked the Report button, you likely would have received a reply like this.

Thank you.  By the way, the title was meant for humorous effect (or is it affect).  Glad people enjoyed the post.  I wrote this way back on March 11th and suddenly it got picked back up.  Enjoyed reading everyone's replies!

Go Twins!

The writers and producers of this movie were BRILLIANT!  This should be in everyone's collection.
