PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 That's not cheap, but the commitment isn't long. I'm glad they are serious about improving the bullpen. Now get Darvish.

Brandon Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 So who closes between Reed and Rodney?

bluechipper Provisional Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 This seems like a very good signing, as Reed is right in his prime years. A Hildenberger, Reed, Rodney back of the bullpen is something I have confidence in.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 So who closes between Reed and Rodney?Reed I'd think. Don't think he comes here on a two year deal if he didn't think so too.
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 So who closes between Reed and Rodney?I'd think Rodney gets the first shot, but if his control issues cause problems, I could see a quick role change.

KirbyDome89 Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 But, but, but....multiple years? Honestly though it doesn't look like a bad signing. I agree with the notion to keep spending.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Very solid. Falvey's offseason grade moves from F-minus to about C+
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 He's actually above average, not old, and will help the team this year!
ashbury Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 But now it doesnt link. Fixed.
70charger Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Nice! I’m pretty excited about this move. Maybe the ice cold stove is heating up.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Yes, this is what I'm talking about. Reed's only 29 and he's had a solid career thus far (2.40 ERA, 2.81 FIP, 9.8 K/9 the past two seasons). He should be able to push Rodney for the closer's role as he also has extensive experience as the 9th inning man. $8.5M a year is a sizeable amount for a reliever but it's just for two seasons and he's been rather durable over his career. Nice signing - the bullpen should be good to go and now they just need to add one starter. And this is the first ever multi-year signing for a reliever in Twins history! Turns out Falvey and Levine aren't TR 2.0. Methinks they know what they're doing.
Twinfan & Dad Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Bullpen now vastly improved. Dont forget about our young arms that also may help at some point this season. Now trade for Cole or Archer. Shorter term committment than Darvich and much cheaper for now. Buys us time to see what the young guys look like and how May comes back. Darvich is just going to take too long a contract at 25mm plus per year. He has too many question marks and has a history of the injury bug.
twinssporto Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Very solid signing! This creates more depth within the bullpen and should give Molly additional consistency.
ashbury Verified Member Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 The TD article on this subject is up, if you prefer to discuss there. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/28380-article-rosenthal-twins-agree-to-deal-with-addison-reed
Doomtints Verified Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 This signing immediately improves the Twins drastically. Good job.
