"Cheap in prospects" is relative. The Twins undervalue Vargas, for example. They can simply package up who they don't want.

...but I think the Twins feel good with their C situation as it is.

Not sure catcher is the position of highest need at the moment. You would have to include Garver into the deal to make it make sense in my opinion.

This is the guy they should be pursuing. Not gonna be cheap in prospects, but worth it, imo.

I love it, was just looking at him the other day. But people on here will probably hate it because we might have to give up a catcher who is older than him and has 1450 less major league at bats. You know because the idea of a prospect is worth more than somebody who has already done more than we can expect out of our prospect.

Garver is older, and has almost no MLB at bats....right? Sounds good to me.

I don't think the Twins have the prospect capital to go after both Realmuto and improve the pitching staff. Pitching is a higher priority for me.

I'd rather they sign Darvish, or Lynn and Cobb, and make this trade. But, I can't disagree with your stance.

I'd be interested if the Twins still have the pieces after trading for an arm; starting pitching is still my #1 and #2 priority.

That said, perhaps it's just me, but the front office seems to be awfully fond of Castro.

I doubt the new brain trust is going to add a new starting catcher after they made a starting catcher their big priority of last season.

That said, I do like him and would be happy if we got him. Considering some of the joke trades the new Miami FO is making, maybe we could get him cheaper than we expect.

Who is older, and will be gone in two years. But yes, another strike against this idea.

If that timing worked like you laid out, it would be pretty sweet - that's quite a tightrope walk

No kidding. I don't think this happens in a million years, but a guy can dream.

He’ll cost more in prospects than Stanton.

I'm with you on this Mike...send them Castro (along with whatever it takes to make it a cost neutral deal for Marlins $8M-Realmuto Arb figure) or Garver along with 2nd tier pitching prospect (not Gonsalves/Romero) and their Middle Infielder of choice if needed

Realmuto is what Castro was supposed to be defensively with a .290 average

Free Agent Starter has to be purchased and if the Pirates strikeout with Yankees nab Cole in February when all of this falls into place and I'll see 38,000 of my close personal friends at Target Field all summer long

I am not saying straight up deal. Garver included in a deal with other prospects.

Personally I'd do the trade (still, I want my pitchers first) but Realmuto only has three years of control left.

Ya, for some reason I thought he had four. Still do it....but a tiny bit less into it.

Realmuto for Garver and a prospect or two is worth pursuing. I don’t think the Marlins will be receptive to taking on any veteran contract without giving up much larger contracts. If the Twins open with Castro, the Marlins will hang up and deal with the teams understanding their interest.

Dream on.......... This the Twins you are talking about. We just got 2 pitchers, 1 probably won't play at all next year and the other is a 41 year old wild thing. Can we say, still dumpster diving? Realmuto would be too good to pursue.

I think Realmuto is one of the top catchers in the league. He reminds of a young Mauer.

However... I personally would be against going after him because he will be expensive and I will never advocate paying big sum's of money/talent for a catcher regardless of how he ranks against his peers.

I believe that Catchers should be home grown. If you are not growing them... get better at it.

Grow your own catchers and maybe you can take advantage of the position scarcity price tag in a trade someday instead of paying the price.

Not the place they need to upgrade, but they got to be opportunistic and do their due diligence.  Also Yelich wants a trade and the Twins should see if they can have a package.

That said, baseball is not football and contracts are binding for both sides.  I suspect that Miami would like to build on these two instead of trading them.at this point.  And they do not have any choice.  They either show up and get paid or not and don't play and don't get paid until their contract ends.

I like it.   A clear upgrade but not so much that I think it will break the bank of prospects we have to give up, especially if Castro is included.   A lot to like with the right handed bat.    I've always been a believer in improving multiple positions even incrementally and that includes improvement by developing guys already in spots.   I expect Buxton and Sano to have better years.    Improving catcher even by a little would help also.   Do this and sign Cobb and we can be done, as far as I am concerned.

because catchers that can hit don’t break the bank?

I still can't get over that trade.

Sign him to a massive contract, then trade him for nothing. Still can't figure it out. Even considering his no-trade and new owners, there is something there that just doesn't add up to me.

First page suggested Garver and Gordon.    I don't think that breaks the bank.   I was thinking Castro might be a better chip.   You lose .30 offense at catcher but gain a pretty good prospect in Gordon..   Further review shows the Marlins had a pretty solid infield offensively so maybe Gordon isn't such a good piece.  Looking at their offense numbers I am wondering how they didn't score more runs.

Honestly, I glossed over this thread initially. Then I read more and thought more.

I would love to add Realmuto, and believe he'd be a needle mover...at least slightly. And for a moment, let's forget that the Marlins wouldn't probably want Castro back in a trade, unless the Twins picked up most of his contract. Love him, or think he's mediocre, Castro is still the best catching option we've had in a few seasons now. He is not part of the problem to moving forward, pitching is. Catching still is about chemistry, not just numbers. And please leave Garver out of comparisons. Other than elite catchers, he's not old, he appears to have real tools behind the plate and at the plate, at least potentially. Opportunity awaits! He may not be Butera, son or father, behind the plate, but doesn't seem to lack, and should be a he'll of an improvement at it.

IF the Twins actually sign Darvish, you then have a choice to be made.

PERIOD!

1] Stand pat overall, sign a FA RP and maybe a bench bat or flier on someone.

2] Trade prospects for another SP such as Cole.

3] Trade for a position player such as Deeply to
