beckmt Verified Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 According to mlbtraderumors Nik Turley was claimed on waviers by the Pirates. Found this to be interesting because of the club and the Pirates record of helping pitchers. I hope not but this could be a fail on the Twins part, we shall see.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 He was one I was hoping would stick around and find a role in the bullpen. He is the kind of pitcher the FO likes with a high spin rate, good curve ball, etc. Oh well. Good luck to him. EDIT: I would not be surprised if he found a home in Pittsburgh's bullpen, and sees success as soon as next season.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 No surprise at all. There are at least 3 LHRPs ahead of him at this point (Rogers, Enns, Moya) Still waiting for Buddy Boshers, Ryan O'Rourke, Aaron Slegers, & Michael Tonkin to be removed off the 40-man roster.
tvagle Verified Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Wait no longer for O'Rourke...Giminez also outrighted today according to Mike Berardino

Danchat Verified Member Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 It seems there have been plenty of claims for these fringe players around the MLB... I wonder if the Twins have plans to pick anybody up? Perhaps there are a few specific players they're waiting to see if they'll stick on another team's 40 man roster.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 they have a lot to add and a FA or two to sign... I see this as recognizing that they don't have the bandwidth for the fringe guys. Rosario is a good example there. He has one option left and a 100% chance of seeing it used. Turly is another in that they don't have the capacity to develop him with guys like Chargois, Bard, Burdi, etc. needing spots.
AZTwin Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Yep. A lot of guys that needed to be added. Only one I’m disappointing in losing is Rosario. Has good potential in the pen but likely won’t be a huge loss. It’ll be interesting to see who they all add
Old Twins Cap Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Turley had his shot and guess what: he couldn't locate his fastball or curve, especially the curve though, because when he did locate the fastball, it got hit. Maybe Pittsburgh can get him to throw it for strikes.

He seemed to rally later in the year and got his velocity back. I'm hesitant to give up on him at this point, though I don't think he's a 40 man add either. Is he a FA at this point? I was thinking he was. And I think you could add Jay to your list of Rogers, Enns (who I definitely see as a pen option), and Moya.

You just don't do what he did at AAA without some kind of ability/stuff. It just didn't translate hardly at all when he got his shot. But I was hoping he might come back for a pen audition to see if he could harness something. Still, I have a strong suspicion the Twins will sign at least a decent, if not good, option for the pen from the port side. And as Thrylos pointed out, he'd probably be behind a few other good young arms anyway.

I thought he was DFAd, which would mean he's rule V eligible and not on the 40 man... he's also been around a while, and might be a minor league FA... not sure.
rdehring Verified Member Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Great seeing them open spots on the 40-man for what could be as many as 8 players needing to be protected. Expect there are a few more who they may first try to trade, although not certain how successful teams are doing that this time of year. Now that games are behind us, perhaps they could put together a deal to fill one of their needs...a deal that could include someone like Tonkin as a minor part. As for O'Rourke and Turley, they would never be part of a contending Twins team of the future.
